I got the same exp in my 1st time thru this bounty. I managed to kill the bear, but then accidentally auto aimed and shot the bounty dead. Didnt capture him alive till my 3rd playthru.

Thats how I hunt now. I start a bounty or a resupply mission, but just ignore the mission and go hunting. That way I fill up my materials fast, then do the resupply mission to turn them into sellable goods.
