It works (for me) if you move the slider first to the very left (0) and after that to the max on the right. HDR ist still f* and need a fix. At least I can play the game without headache now.

I have done this resolution switch myself and took screenshots before and after there is no difference to me and it does nothing for the aggressive motion blur that happens when barely moving the camera or running around in a forest.

I’m starting to think R* knows and they knew before it was released. And they just don’t care.

I think so to. Working in the software development cycle, I know that organizations will sometimes prioritize known issues. For example, this bug might have a ticket in the engineer's queue but other fixes are taking precedence to this one but still wanted to meet the release date.

Also to note, if you are in chapter 1-3 there is a bug where John Marston and Sadie dissapear and we miss out on missions for them. This has not been acknowledged either but when it is patched, that means I'll have to start a new game.

I too find it hard to believe that R* weren't aware of this sort of thing - or if not, then they were being incompetent in testing.  Sony must've known too.

Thanks to alert about this situation. How can i avoid miss these two?

According to Forbes, it is triggered by failing the mission "Polite Society, Valentine Style" and choosing to retry checkpoint instead of restarting the mission. Pretty dumb bug.

The fact that this managed to make it into the full version of the game then i don't know if i should be surprised about the issues with the 4k mode on pro or the lack of options for the visual effects. I am surprised that nothing bug related hasn't been acknowledged by Rockstar though.

I would like to say something about the sharpness slider again.

Restart PS4 Pro and set the picture settings to 1080p.
Then start RDR 2 and start playing.
Now with the PS button again to the PS4 settings and the resolution on 2160p-RGB output.
With the PS button back to the RDR 2 Game and there in the settings display, there is now a Shaprness slider. Push it all the way to the left, back to the game.
Then again to the sharpness slider and push all the way to the right. Turn off HDR
Now the game should also be sharp on the PS4.

Sorry for my bad english 🙂

Guys, the ting described here is a placebo. I have played with the setting. The resolution the game starts with is the one that it is running, depite the option to change to a different one in the PS Menu. The game stays on the one that it started on. The slider only works when you have NO SS enabled and start the game in 1080p mode. All other things are just in your brain, making the game much better :) I have tested and compared screens, and it's the same. Play the game on 1080p with no SS. The 4K TV does upscale quite OK the game, and when not 1m away from the TV the image is pleasant.

When I look at the camera movement in DF's video, the juderring/trailing/smearing effect is much less visible on their screen that on my PS4 Pro, and even less on XBOX ONE X. Mostly they moved the character forward, but there were a few occasions with some camera panning where juddering caused by low FPS could be seen - not nearly as bad as in my case. I wonder if it is the issue with the hardware or not. Unfortunately they did not test or mention this particular aspect, only blurriness and HDR implementation. I'm afraid it'll remain as it is. This sucks. 30 FPS gaming sucks.

After submitting a ticket to report the problem, this was the reply:

Thank you for contacting Rockstar Support.

I understand that you are facing the blurry issue and I will try to resolve it. However, I request you to please follow the below following steps and hope it will resolve the issue.

  1. Fully shut down your console.
  2. After 30 seconds of the console being shut down, restart the console.
  3. Launch RDR2
  4. When launching RDR2, wait until a black screen appears after the initial splash art has disappeared, and hold down L1+R1 throughout the opening scenes.
  5. If successful, you will be prompted to re-calibrate your language and brightness options.

If the issue still persist please feel free to get back to us, I will be happy to assist you further.

Best regards,

Priyanka L.
Rockstar Support

If that doesn't work, it's at least somewhat reassuring that she responded with, "*the* blurry issue," implying they are aware of what's going on internally.

Thank you, really good to know, if you can please post a screenshot.

I think this video can be usefull, maybe the "look acceleration" can do something to the motion blur.

I’m looking forward to this fix as well. I was wondering why Marston and Sadie were completely missing from camp. Turns out the bug causes you to miss some important missions.

It sucks they are acknowledging the glitch but not the blur issue... this makes me LESS confident that they are going to even try and fix it...

Ithink we can wait a long time for a patch :(

espite the small hiccup, Red Dead Redemption 2 has been a massive success for Rockstar. The open-world western sold through $725 million USD worth of copies in its first three days, making it the biggest opening weekend in entertainment history.

They gave us a gam ein beta status, with gamebreaking bugs and massive graphical glitches and sold out 750 million dollars in the first three dayz. No thanks nothing. We are only slaves that pay for a beta game. God of war was a million seller too in a week, but the developerteam and the publisher thanks the users that buy that game.

No respect from rockstar to the owners of the game. Nothing
Owners of the PS4 must ignore dlcs and anything else what come out for red dead redemption 2. I have the gamebreaking issue too.

if the Problem is coming from the checkerboard rendering is there even a Chance for us to see a patch which corrects the blurry optic?

It is the motion blur and to agressive taa. temporal antialiasing. You can fix the checkerboard issues, but not the rest. Start red dead redemption in 1080p resolution, set the sharpening slider under display options to zero. Go in you ps4 pro settings menu, change the resolution to 2160p rgb, go back into the game. Not shut down the game befor, only switching in your ps4 settings. Now you will have a sharpening slider. Set the sharpening slider to max, turn off hdr. Now you can see the distance sharpness is back, but you have the to agressive motion blur and the taa.

The cashcow is the publisher not the developerteam I think. They can outsource the work for patches to a different studio. They have enough money and capacity.

Yes I´m really angry about the politics of the publisher gave no beta copies out nothing. You can read my anger about the issues in the support forum.

Yes I hope so. We have a small developerteam in germany, that are all hard workers. THe team is called Piranha bytes. They work with the community. I like how the team is working and spend time for the fanbase community. That are the team of gothic one and two and the risen series . the last output was elex. Elex is nearly bug free. They  put different temporal antialiasing solutions in the game on pc, a button to turn off motion blur and depth of field.

This was a small team and they throw out the patch after 3 month of the release. This are only a team of 25 persons. I think rockstar can do this in a month if they want that.

I don´t know how difficult it is to integrate real hdr 10. The witcher 3 becomes hdr at the cost of less details on the ps4 pro. It is not the best HDR solution. THey work on the patch a half year after the ps4 pro enhanced patch was released.

HDR is not my biggest problem. If you have a 10 Bit display you can use yuv420 option of your ps4 pro or ps4. The colours looking amazing without hdr.

I hope they fix the game in one or two month nearly completely. Look at assassins creed odyssey. The team throw out patches every week. It runs now very good on the pro with real good hdr implementation.

I hope for a patch that will remove the blurry problem because it would be such a shame to play a game with so nice graphics and details whit that kind of problems

But I think R* will either ignore the problem or fix this after a long time
