fter a couple of hours of playing in RDR2, my eyes start to get tired and hurt. This is not usual for me.   Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Yes all the time, within 30 minutes my eyes start to hurt can't play it anymore. They have to listen and fix this.

Long did not understand what was happening, I thought I was getting old)

I will try to include 1080 today. Health is more important than pixels.

I don't think you're seeing this through the right light, allow me to illuminate, as to scoff a this as "meh, first world problems" is missing the point.

With HDR they aren't delivering what's being advertised, what we bought is not what they claim to have sold us.

If you bought a car with a sunroof, and when you drove it out of the lot and realized there's no sunroof, are you just going to chuckle to yourself: "oh well, that's what I get for buying something expensive and expecting to get what I paid for, first world problems".

No, of course you wouldn't. Don't act like it's unreasonable to expect to get what you were sold, what you bought. I bought a game with HDR support. Turns out it has zero HDR support. ie. no Sunroof. Not half a sunroof, not a malfunctioning sunroof, not a tinted, altered, or modified sunroof, NO SUNROOF.

4k being blurry, well that's more open-ended because there's only so much power in a PS4 Pro. 4 TFLOPS isn't a lot of GPU power, I think a GTX 970 is more powerful... It's not great, and that's something that the developers can try to optimize with future patches, but at least it's technically projecting a 4k image, even if not internally rendered at that. The HDR isn't even outputting HDR. You'd think that would be a bigger issue. *shrug*

Very well said, friend! We were promised HDR and this game does not have HDR. Period.

Also, I don't even believe that the 1080p checkerboard rendering is the best they could do for PS4 Pro. Look at games like Uncharted 4, Horizon Zero Dawn, God Of War.... all these games render infinitely better on PS4 Pro than RDR2 currently does. Why should we settle for this crappy rendering implementation? Maybe from an Indy studio without the resources to apply a proper solution, but this is ROCKSTAR we are talking about! The developer that dominates the industry!

Yeah, this is amazing! You should have told them that without changing any settings on your console or TV, all your other PS4 games look amazing. It is NOT any console or TV settings that is the cause or solution to the problem. It is the GAME.

Been Following this thread for a few days now, Decided to contact Rockstar support after they ignored me on twitter. Pointing out their technical flaws with halving the horizontal pixel count on their up scaled checker board technique, which is resulting in this blurred image at a res of 1920x2160. i kindly pointed out equalling both horizontal and vertical pixel counts as spiderman, god of war and horizon zero dawn does would fix this or even sticking a res of 2560x1440 would fix this 10fold and possibly increase performance on frame rate. also asked them to at the very least publicly acknowledge this issue as many people are left wondering what is going on. i aslo attached the image showing the ps4 pro vs Base ps4 to highlight the blur.

As for HDR, the box the website and everything else states you can play this with HDR. Surely this is false advertising and can be reported to trading standards. If enough of us do this, trading standards will have to investigate and rockstar will be FORCED to do something about it or compensate the consumer. This could become very very messy for rockstar.

This! I believe there HAS to be a better deal considering how RDR2 looks on One X and how other games look on on the Pro - never had any beef with checkerboarding as the games looked absolutely gorgeous.

Yes, I think I've had quite enough of R* not acknowledging anything, so I will report this to Trading Standards in the UK.

R* tried to make fools of us all advertising a product to have HDR only to give us fake HDR and thinking we would somehow not notice?

I hope a lot of people report this to Trading Standards.

Further to this, if anyone does want to forward the HDR issue to advertising standards this is the link.
https://www.asa.org.uk/make-a-complaint.html

They investigated no mans sky which didn't come to fruition for what happened but it still lit up the massive issue for a lot more people.

Yes, checkerboarding on all other games looks incredible. I have played yesterday, spiderman and man, it looks like native 4k and the performance is gorgeous and the game looks gorgeous, The same for Odyssey and a lot of other titles. Sony must talk with Rockstar.

You can´t talk on a professionell way with the support. The guy from the support say to me, something of fps problems. I had talked with him from the checkerboarding problem and the HDR and bad TAA implementation. I was friendly to him. He told to me the same with the 1.4 HDCP Problem. This is no Problem since a year or more. I´m not spending more time with the support team. I´m back on in Odyssey in old greek now. :(

Nothing :( I think we must give Rockstar a while to fix this. I´m back now on Odyssey and Spiderman and both Games looking incredible.

Have someone of you tested what is better for you the automatic resolution setting on the pro or the 2160p RGB setting. For me in RDR2 no difference. If you have a tv with lock dimming you become a little bit more of detail to raise this feature up. Set it back to your defaults on other games.

The exact same issue for me as you guys experiecncing.

This has to be fixed, its a disgrace that no one has acknowledge this issue!

I've been in contact with Rockstart chat support, they are worthless. Telling me that my TV is an issue, like wut? The issue is not my tv, not my eyes, only RDR2! Everything else works fine, Spider Man, Uncharted, Tomb Raider etc etc

I have the same games and all is looking fine. I´m not talking again with this guys of the support. Someone bigger or the bosses of sony himself must talk with the team. I think a lot of people now that bought a ps4 pro, the flagship of sony think now this is a bad console. I can say no it is a really good console and for me they produce the best games in incredible quality. All exclusive title are real eye candy. THe XBox has nothing on games what reach this level.

Ok, now they have RDR2 I must cry. I can´t play the game more as a half hour and i must paused it, because of tears in the eyes.

Guys, don't bother contacting Rockstar's tech support. They are utterly useless. And neither can they be expected to offer any solutions.

The OnLY way to make Rockstar pay attention to this is to make a noise about it on twitter, reddit, facebook....everywhere you can.

Once again to understanding...there is no problem with blurry graphics, if  I play with the PS Pro on a 1080p TV?

Digital foundry says no.

The anti-aliasing at 1080p may not be the best, also you have motion blur the blurred effect when you move, i think it's maxed out, and depth of field that's when you look at something part of the screen gets blurried, personally i don't like this effects and allways disable them.

I have the same issue with blurring image on ps4 pro Sony tv. I tried to turn off HDR in the settings menu, and that actually helped a lot. Try it out. I now it's not optimal, but it's a good solution for now. The image is way clearer with HDR OFF. Hope it help some of you guys how cant play because of the blurring.

I noticed that as well. Turning HDR definitely gets rid of the haze effect but the blurriness still remains unfortunately.  I can't imagine how such a huge title like red dead 2 got HDR and checkerboarding so wrong.

So as a patient sumbich I am, yesterday I've used the 'web ticket' option on R* support, hoping that it could provide some more meaningful information. Along with describing the situation I've specifically asked if there is any information on what exactly the team is working on for the upcoming patch to address this as well as possible estimates on when we can expect the update. Unfortunately my ticket was closed by support with the following write-up:

Thank you for contacting Rockstar Support.

I understand that you are facing issues with Red Dead Redemption II picture quality and graphics. I am happy to assist you regarding this issue.

I request you to please follow the below mentioned steps to resolve this issue.

PlayStation 4 Pro:

If your display supports HDR, you will see “Supported” under the HDR label.

How to Enable HDR on your TV:

Step 1: Check the owner’s manual of for your TV, to find the proper HDMI port that supports HDR content (This varies by manufacturer).

Step 2: Using a Premium HDMI cable, connect the PS4 to the to the proper HDMI-HDR port on the TV. The PS4 must be connected directly from the PS4 to the TV to output HDR and not through a receiver or switch box.

Step 3: Access the TV settings and make sure that the TV’s HDMI ports are set to enable HDR content. TV manufacturers refer to HDR in a number of different ways:

High Dynamic Range (HDR)

Wide Color Mode

HDMI Enhanced Mode

UHD Color Mode

Ultra HD Premium

Ultra HD deep color

How to Enable HDR on PS4

Step 1: Go to Settings.

Step 2: Select Sound and Screen Video Output Settings.

Step 3: Select HDR, and check Automatic.

Step 4: Go back to Video Output Settings Deep Color Output,  and check Automatic.

On the Game and Streaming Side

From the game's options screen, make sure you enable HDR content.

If your issue still persists, please let us know.

Best Regards,

--------

Seems to be one of the generic responses they use as I've clearly described the setup as 'PS4 Pro + 4k non-HDR display'. Guess I'll have to (im)patiently wait for any patch announcements.

@artur89, I actually prefer Xbox, but deliberately chose a PS Pro for the exclusives. Nearly all of Xbox's games are on PC, so I would just be running a dumbed down version of them and paying a higher price, if I went the xbox route.
