Hunting Leg. Buck

Wanted to know if this has happened to anybody else. I was hunting legendary buck  yesterday and  finally found him. I was slow crawling over to him trying to get a shot lined up. I draw bow and just when I was ready to hit dead eye. BAM! he falls over dead and I get,  "congratulations you have killed a legendary buck" Never shot the arrow.

I had to actually shoot him. Maybe he was damaged from something else like another animal or something and since you were nearby, it counted as a kill for you? Not really sure what could cause this to happen.

This totally happened to me! 

 

I thought I'd go kill it early in the game to get the trinket for future hunts... it was nighttime, I crept up on him, scanned, drew my bow and he just fell down dead!

 

So now he's in my compendium as skinned and scanned but not killed.  Do the legendaries respawn?  I'd like to get the kill against it.

Yea I got kill and trinket with skin, Legendary

Happened to me with the legendary fox.

I was aiming on him and in the same moment i noticed bounty hunters so I aimed on the bh saw that they are far away and thought i will kill the fox quickly and run away but then the fox are allready dead i just collected.

Idk what happened.
