Have you lost collectable iteams after you’ve gotten them

After spending severel hours collecting several of the collectable melee weapons in the big world of RDR2. After collecting the double ended hatchet, the wood hatchet, the Viking axe and helmet and the hunters knife as well as several of the collectable hats. On the way back to camp I was ambushed and died when I came back to and got on my horse and I have nothing or close to it, I went back to the locations I died and found nothing and then I went to each one of the unique items locations and also found nothing. Wondering if this happened to others or just me.

They should be in your inventory,  go to the weapon wheel (RB/R1) and check the throwables (lower left, the lasso i think is default there) the hatchets should be there.  Hunter knife will be in the lower right (LT/L1 or RT/R2 to cycle through the items)  Hats will be in your horse inventory lower right, but you can only store 4 or 5 in there.  The others may be in your wardrobe inventory at camp/hotel.

I think everything gets pushed as well so if you do not have it on you, always check your base inventory. I have accidentally bumped out some weapons before and thought I lost them only to find them back at camp.

Not collectable the way you mean but I did lose the legendary bear claw so now I can't make that particular talisman. Very annoying because that's the only talisman I'm missing. I got the pelt though.
