NewsBot
Following a stellar late-October launch, Red Dead Redemption 2 continued selling strong in November. So much so that it beat other major releases to #1. Hit games from AAA franchises like Call of Duty, Fallout and Battlefield all lagged behind Rockstar Games' Wild West adventure. These stats come from the NDP Group's reports for US game sales in November. Red Dead Redemption 2 already made headlines with its financial success after it outsold the lifetime sales of Red Dead Redemption in just 7 days. It sold over 600,000 copies in the UK only a few days after launch and over 17 million copies worldwide in a little over a week. Red Dead Redemption 2 is followed by Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Battlefield V and Fallout 76. Battlefield and Call of Duty are both major franchises with casual mainstream appeal and are consistently among the best selling games whenever they are released. Fallout 76 was highly anticipated but launched to a seemingly unending stream of problems. These issues didn't prevent it from being a financial success, even if they did rob it of being a critical one. Red Dead Redemption 2 will probably continue selling high in December, with sales likely to be bolstered by the holiday buying spike. Many fans who didn't get the game at launch for whatever reason could buy it now or receive it as a gift. Red Dead Online players don't need to expect a sudden influx of new players just yet though, since most will likely play much or all of the singleplayer before moving to Online. Prior to release, Red Dead Redemption 2 was forecast by professionals to be a financial success, though most predicted that it won't eclipse the staggering sales of Grand Theft Auto 5. It is early to say whether or not they were right or wrong, since GTA 5 has had 5 years of sales across 5 platforms building up, but at this rate Red Dead Redemption 2 might just do the impossible.
