  1. It's official - Rockstar Games has confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 2 is going to be released on PC, and you don't even have to wait long. The game will be released via the recently unveiled Rockstar Games Launcher with many new improvements and bonuses for those who pre-order. Red Dead Redemption 2 is going to launch on PC on the 5th of November, one month from today. You can pre-order the game starting today either on the Rockstar Games Launcher or through a number of other distributors later this month. Players who pre-order on the Launcher will automatically be upgraded to Premium Edition, will receive the Outlaw Survival Kit, War Horse, Treasure Map and Cash Bonus for Story Mode and 50 free Gold Bars for Online. Additionally, anyone who pre-orders the game on the Rockstar Games Launcher can choose 2 additional free games from a selection including GTA 3, GTA: Vice City, GTA: San Andreas (free for anyone installing the launcher anyway), Bully: Scholarship Edition, L.A. Noire: The Complete Edition and Max Payne 3: The Complete Edition. Alongside the Rockstar Games Launcher, you can also pre-order Red Dead Redemption 2 for PC via the Epic Games Store, Humble Store, Greenman Gaming, Gamestop and other retailers. These pre-orders will go live on the 23rd of October, and will include a bonus of 25 Gold Bars for Online. The game will be released on Steam in December. The game's PC release will include a wide range of improvements over the console versions. The graphics have been significantly upgraded to make the most of the superior hardware available in high-end gaming PCs, and various technical improvements have been made for increased immersion. The PC version also has more content, including all-new Bounty Hunting Missions, Gang Hideouts, Weapons and more. Red Dead Online will be available on PC from launch, and PC players will have immediate access to all the content currently available in Red Dead Online, including the latest DLC, Frontier Pursuits. All future DLC for Red Dead Online will be available on the PC version. Check back on the 9th of October for more details and information! 2. This week in Red Dead Online, Bounty Hunters get to track down another legendary target, Collectors get to seek out new riches, Traders get to keep doing the same thing and there are other bonuses on offer as well - including a free RDO$ promotion. The latest Legendary Bounty for Bounty Hunters to sink their teeth into are the Owlhoots. This hermit family of savage murderers operates out of Rio Bravo, where they murder and steal without prejudice. Since you are up against multiple hardened killers, like some wild west version of the cannibal family from The Hills Have Eyes, you need to be extra careful - bring your posse and take out your targets by the 7th of October. Completing this bounty will earn you a bonus of 5 tomahawks. Instead of a new weekly list of rare items, Collectors can take on a new free roam event starting this week. Free Roam Event - Condor Egg has you seek out a rare and valuable condor egg before other Collectors do. The location of the prized egg is indicated by birds circling above. Unlike the weekly items, this event is here to stay, and is available to Collectors who have reached Rank 4. Red Dead Online also got a new weapon today - the Hunter Hatchet is a vicious melee weapon used by the hardiest trackers in the wilderness. You can pick up yours starting today from any fence throughout the frontier. You can even put it to use in this week's featured playlist, Spoils of War (Free Aim). Rockstar wants to thank all players for their dedication to Red Dead Online with a special gift. Anyone who logs into the game this week will automatically receive RDO$200. All you need to do is play to qualify! Additionally, if you complete any Role Free Roam Event - of which the Condor Egg is the only one so far, but we assume this means more are coming - you'll unlock a Fuentes Poncho as well. We wonder what other Role Free Roam Events Rockstar has planned! The post The Owlhoots Are Red Dead Online's Newest Bounty appeared first on RDR2.org. Read the full story
  3. Rockstar Games has revealed its plans for Red Dead Redemption 2's single-player DLC - namely, that there aren't any. In a recent interview with VG247, the developers talked about their vision for the future, and it looks like that future has "Online" written all over it. During the interview, which you can read in full here, the developers speak predominantly about Red Dead Online, the differences between it and GTA Online and the future they envision for the multiplayer mode. As we suspected, the Role system introduced in Frontier Pursuits is what we can expect going forward. Players will be able to expand their careers and pick up new ones as more content is added to the game in the coming months. Rockstar's people weren't mentioning single player at all during the interview, and when asked, their answer wasn't what we were hoping for. Right now, there is no plan to create story DLC for Red Dead Redemption 2. The developers are "100% focused on Online right now" due to many concurrent plans and a desire to translate everything people loved in single player to Online in some form. Rockstar clearly learned from the situation with GTA Online. Back when GTA 5 was released to roaring success, the company did not yet know how massive GTA Online would become. They even officially announced story DLC being in development, however that was never released and years later they clarified that it got canned. Instead of running those laps again with Red Dead Online, they're just straight-up saying it - don't expect additional story content. This does make sense for multiple reasons, however. Red Dead Redemption 2's storyline is a neatly tied package without loose ends. It leads on into Red Dead Redemption seamlessly, and during its course you don't have a lot of blanks. Had we gotten some single player DLC, it would likely have been a prequel (even though Red Dead Redemption 2 is already a prequel for the 2010 game), or a spin-off focusing on some side characters, or an entirely new narrative completely unrelated to any previous Red Dead story. It would have run the risk of feeling superfluous. We love a good single player experience, more so than a multiplayer one, but there is something to be said about outstaying one's welcome, and the single player portion is already extremely long. On the other hand Red Dead Online is enjoyable, but had a rough start and still needs some polish. While highly successful, it isn't anywhere near GTA Online's level, but a lot of care and content can help narrow that gap. What kind of adventures could await in upcoming Red Dead Online content? 4. After all the rumors, leaks, the petition, and the constant hope, you'd think Rockstar would have dropped a smidge of info about Red Dead Redemption 2 coming to PC by now - but no, the developer known for its secretive tendencies is quiet as a mouse. However, the recent release of the Rockstar Games Launcher and a mysterious rating board classification have us wonder whether it's finally happening? The Rockstar Games Launcher was released not too long ago, last week. Functioning just like any other game launcher used by most AAA publishers these days, it lets you download, install, play and buy Rockstar titles. You can activate your copies of supported titles even if you bought them or buy them via other means, allowing you to collect your entire library of Rockstar titles in one place. It's also only available on PC, of course, like any other game launcher app. To entice players to start using it and migrate over from whatever launcher or launchers they've been using until now, Rockstar is giving each new user a free copy of GTA: San Andreas which can be activated through the Launcher. However, chances are there's more behind this sudden release. Rockstar hasn't bothered with a proprietary launcher all this time even though other companies were putting them out left and right. The PC release of GTA 5, which is relatively speaking recent, would have been a great vehicle to push this app and get millions of users to adopt it, but instead Rockstar is relying on a game that is such an absolute classic - and really cheap, these days - that chances are most people who care have it already. It would make more sense to roll out the launcher with a new release, and if not, then we'd guess it being launched now means there is an upcoming major release that will require the launcher around the corner and that will boost user numbers. What release could it be if not Red Dead Redemption 2? The Rockstar Games Launcher on its own was hardly evidence of a PC port coming. It got us thinking, sure, but it wasn't enough. Then, in what seems like too much of a coincidence, the Australian Classification has rated Red Dead Redemption 2. The ratings board had already rated the game back when it was released, and games are only rated again if they are re-released on new platforms, as new games in the case of remasters, or if they are significantly changed. It wouldn't make sense for Rockstar to make large enough changes to warrant reclassification unannounced, and it's obviously too early to remaster the game - even Red Dead Redemption hasn't been remastered yet! Considering leaked footage of the alleged PC version's graphics menu sort of, kind of, confirmed that the port does exist, but isn't official yet, we're guessing this "coincidence" is everything but. It would make sense if Rockstar would put out the Rockstar Games Launcher to collect some starting users, as a proof of concept and to show the world it isn't a buggy mess in order to prevent it being a dealbreaker for some once they announce that Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC will require its use, which it almost certainly will. Then again, Rockstar might be throwing us the curveball of the century and will announce Red Dead Redemption 2 on Nintendo Switch Pro. Better keep your eyes peeled for a possible announcement later this Fall! The post Is Red Dead Redemption 2 Finally Coming To PC? appeared first on RDR2.org. Read the full story
  5. A new Legendary Bounty is now available in Red Dead Online for all Bounty Hunters. There are also new rewards, collections, and a featured playlist to delve into, as well as assorted items appearing in the store for the first time - and some aren't here to stay. If you're playing as a Bounty Hunter and are looking for a challenge, this week's Legendary Bounty is happy to oblige. The Wolf Man is a feral hermit who lives out in the predator infested wilds and decided to become the top dog. The violent murderer is wanted dead or alive, but watch out for other four-legged dangers when you go to bring him in. You can replay this bounty several times, with the difficulty - and rewards - increasing each time you complete it. When you're playing it at a 4 or 5-star difficult level however, keep in mind that he's only wanted alive - a dead Wolf Man will earn you nothing. If you do succeed at completing this bounty at any difficulty level, you'll also unlock a special color scheme for a clothing item alongside the regular rewards. Successfully capturing the Wolf Man will unlock the red colorway for the Red Strayhorn Boots. Don't worry if it doesn't show up immediately, it will unlock sometime within 48 hours of completion. Collectors also have a new list of items to scrounge up this week. The Saint Denis Collection, consisting of Cognac, the Beaulieux Diamond Ring and Beauchêne Ruby Earrings, will net you a higher than usual reward if you manage to find them all and sell them to Madam Nazar by the 30th of September. Other curios this week include Elimination Series (Free Aim) as the featured playlist, as well as a large number of new clothes in the Wheeler, Rawson & Co. Catalogue. The new arrivals include a wide selection of headwear, such as the Trilby Hat, Hurley Cap, Ledbetter Hat and Bartley Cap. You can also try on the Fuentes Poncho, Killiman Vest, Chaftin, Olmo, Huerta, Winford, Hadley Skirt, Rutherford Boots, Strayhorn Boots, Inglett Scarf and Bandana. Check back next week to find out what the next Legendary Bounty is! The post The Wolf Man Is Red Dead Online's Newest Bounty appeared first on RDR2.org. Read the full story
  6. Players have discovered a creepy secret in Red Dead Online which might hold clues about an upcoming DLC or event. We don't have a lot to go on and Rockstar is characteristically tight-lipped about anything they're planning. However, Red Dead Redemption 2 might be getting its own Undead Nightmare. Reported on the Red Dead Online subreddit by several players, mysterious zombie NPCs have been sighted near the swamp. The most common encounter involves one of the common old lady NPC models appearing zombified, who you find during an ambush random event. Basically, you'll come across a barking dog who will lead you to a corpse, and when you find it you'll be jumped by a bandit. While this type of encounter should be familiar if you've been playing Red Dead Online a while, something is off this time around... The corpse used as bait has leathery gray skin, glowing green eyes and is standing upright. It is even occasionally encountered without the ambush random event giving it context - just a creepy, zombie lady chilling in the swamp. The association with the random encounter has skeptics thinking this is just a glitch, where the NPC corpse is in a default upright position instead of being dead on the ground, however that doesn't explain the strange skin and the glowing green eyes. Another theory is that this is related to the cholera outbreak referenced in-game which struck the region, but that too fails to explain the eyes. Another less frequently reported occurrence is that of a similar corpse with green eyes sitting on a rock in Big Valley. The timing of these discoveries lends some more credence to the thought that they might be teases of something bigger - not only are we about a month away from Halloween, but we're also similarly close to Red Dead Redemption 2's first anniversary. A realistic, reserved guess would be that there will be some sort of limited-time event in Red Dead Online around Halloween with zombies to hearken back to Undead Nightmare. If we're talking about what we want this to be, though, then the obvious answer would be a full-blown Undead Nightmare 2 expansion, released on the game's first "birthday", adding content to both singleplayer and Online. We just hope we'll get the four horses of the apocalypse! Undead Nightmare was a non-canon expansion pack for Red Dead Redemption that involved an apocalyptic zombie outbreak sweeping across the game world, infecting many of the main characters that appeared in the regular story. With all-new missions, characters, items, outfits, horses and more, Undead Nightmare was packed with enough content to be a game in and of itself. You shouldn't get your hopes up too much, and cap your expectations at a cool little Halloween event. We'll keep an eye out for any other spooky happenings in Red Dead Online. 7. Today's Red Dead Online update brings content to supplement the recent major DLC which introduced Roles to Rockstar Games' Wild West epic. Players who embarked on the journey of a bounty hunter can now familiarize themselves with Legendary Bounties, a new progression opportunity. Collectors also have a new list of items to track down across the frontier. Starting today, players can attempt to bring in the first of ten limited-time Legendary Bounties. You have until the 23rd of September to deliver Barbarella Alcazar, leader of the savage Del Lobos gang, dead or alive. If you bring her in still breathing, you will get a higher reward. She is hiding somewhere in New Austin. Following the deadline, you won't be able to track her down anymore, but a different Legendary Bounty will take her place - keep an eye on bounty boards throughout the frontier for new opportunities. These targets are the worst of the worst, so make sure you are prepared and have your posse with you. Bounty Hunters aren't the only ones with new content to sink their teeth into this week. Collectors have a chance to seek out the Pearls of the Sea collection for Madam Nazar this week. This set consists of the Durant Pearl Bracelet, Pelle Pearl Necklace and Bonnard Pearl Ring. Collect these rarities for a large reward by the 23rd of September. There are plenty of bonuses to take advantage of this week. The Free Aim Shootout Series is featured this week, and anyone who so much as logs into Red Dead Online through the 23rd of September will get a free bonus of 3,000 Club XP to help you with your Wheeler, Rawson & Co. Club rank progression. If you are also an Outlaw Pass holder, you'll get another 2,000 Club XP on top of all that. Keep an eye out for other upcoming bonuses! 8. Red Dead Online has captivated players since last November when it launched, setting them loose on a vast, untamed frontier filled with adventures and perils, not to mention chances to make it rich. With weekly content updates of varying magnitude, the already vast world was constantly being updated - today Frontier Pursuits, the biggest DLC to date, has been released. Rockstar has been doing their best to let fans know that Frontier Pursuits is coming and bringing real roleplaying to Red Dead Online. We've covered the features and the trailer extensively, and starting today, you can take on the mantle of Bounty Hunter, Collector and Trader. However, alongside the thoroughly discussed roles, Frontier Pursuits actually adds a massive amount of other content as well - including entirely new weapons, new clothing items, new horse-drawn vehicles and other items. New horse breeds have also been added to the game to further expand your stables. Another addition brings a feature that's rather common in games and was an odd omission from Red Dead Online. Directional damage indicators let you know what direction your character is being attacked from, giving you a better chance to react to dangerous situations. One of the most anticipated features of the update, however, is likely the character re-customization. Red Dead Online just has one character slot, so if you end up not liking the appearance of your avatar, you'd need to delete it to change, losing all progress - but no more. Now you can change your character's facial features without losing your items, accomplishments and money. Managing outfits will also be easier. Not only do you get more outfit slots with the Frontier Pursuits update, but can also give custom names to your saved outfits, making it easier to switch between them and know which combo you'll get. Making money to buy clothes is also easier, thanks to increased sell prices for looted jewels, allowing you to get a little more RDO$ for your bounty. Movement speed and animation speed has been increased across the board to make the whole game feel less sluggish and the combat more responsive. A number of other gameplay and balance tweaks have also been implemented to make the game more fun for everyone and to ensure that everything runs smoothly. Players enjoying the new content on PlayStation 4 can look forward to some additional bonuses. Beyond getting access to the Butcher Table for free, you can also get the Trader Camp Theme and Weapons Locker for free once they're unlocked at Trader Rank 5. You'll also have access to the American Foxhound Camp Dog, Shoot The Sky Emote, three ability cards and three clothing items already, while Xbox players will have to wait until the 14th of October. PlayStation Plus members will also get a bonus of RDO$ 250 if they play the game anytime between now and the 7th of October. Keep in mind that the Wheeler, Rawson & Co. Club is also available starting today, alongside the Outlaw Pass. PS: If you're looking for a roleplay posse, we have a number actively recruiting in our forums. 9. Rockstar has revealed an all-new trailer for the upcoming (and massive) Red Dead Online DLC, which will be introducing an entirely new gameplay feature with roles. Get a better sense of the three starting roles, and learn more about a few special promotions that will accompany the DLC. The trailer gives us our very first look at the three roles in action. We're introduced to the three characters who will start us along on our journeys - The Legendary Bounty Hunter, Madam Nazar, and Cripps - and get a quick look at the activities that will be available to us. Bounty Hunters will be tracking down their targets, Traders will be hunting animals and selling goods, while Collectors will be poking around dark places and forgotten corners. Rockstar will also introduce the Wheeler, Rawson & Co. Club, a new way to earn extra free goodies. All players are automatically club members, and a series of free rewards can be earned between the 10th of September to the 18th of November. These include clothing items, accessories, gun wraps, bonus RDO$ and more, all yours to keep even after the club promo is over. The Club will have its own progression system with its own set of ranks, reaching up until 70. As you rank up within the club, new rewards will progressively be unlocked. Once November 18 rolls around, the promotion ends, and whatever your Club rank is at that point will be locked in - unless Rockstar extends the promo, or brings it back in the future. Another promo launching alongside the new Wheeler, Rawson & Co. Club is The Outlaw Pass. A sort of "VIP membership", buying The Outlaw Pass for 35 Gold Bars will sign you up for additional rewards, including significantly more clothing items, weapon customizations, camp decorations, RDO$ and even Gold Bar rewards based on how you rank up within the club system. Reaching Rank 70 will mean that you've been given 35 Gold Bars, negating the purchase cost. Red Dead Online: Frontier Pursuits launches September 10. 10. We now know when the next major chapter in Red Dead Online is going to open and start. The massive DLC that Rockstar has been teasing for weeks is right around the corner and it packs tons of exciting new content for all fans of Red Dead Online to enjoy. Roles, new features, new abilities, new missions, new challenges and more are on the horizon. The main attraction here, which Rockstar has been pushing in previous teases of this upcoming update, is the new Role system. Roles provide a more structured way to enjoy roleplaying with your character on the frontier. Considering the large roleplaying community that sprung up around GTA Online, it makes sense that Rockstar would anticipate this for Red Dead Online and implement systems early on. You can progress with your chosen role by engaging in Pursuits. Each pursuit is tied to a role, and future DLC will be adding new pursuits and new roles periodically. Through pursuits, you'll earn special items, special abilities, as well as a large amount of RDO$ and Gold. Your role will accumulate its own XP as you complete role-specific activities. As was clarified before, you can have multiple roles at the same time, maybe even all of them at once - and this is probably due to Red Dead Online having a single character slot. Whenever you complete a bounty, you'll earn Bounty Hunter XP, while finding a collectible will grant Collector XP. As you accumulate role XP, you'll gain role ranks, and as you gain role ranks, you'll accumulate distinctions. A new distinction will be awarded every 5 levels, with a total of 4 distinctions available - Novice, Promising, Established and Distinguished. Ranks bring with them other rewards. These include Role Tokens, a new kind of role-specific currency that you can spend on role kits, which include a selection of items best suited to that particular role's activities. You also get access to special abilities. The Trader, for example, can train the camp dog to warn of impending bandit attacks, while the Bounty Hunter can duck for cover while on horseback. Let's take a look at the first three roles that will become available next week. The Bounty Hunter To start your journey as a Bounty Hunter travel to Rhodes and purchase the license from the Legendary Bounty Hunter. You need 15 gold bars to purchase a license. For a limited time, Twitch Prime subscribers will be able to buy role licenses for free. With your license, you can begin taking on bounty missions from bounty boards in various locations throughout the game world. Different missions will be of different difficulty, and the number of opponents will also change. Killing your targets will reduce your reward, but bringing them in alive will confer a nice bonus. In case you're up against a particularly tough opponent, remember to bring your posse along. As a Rank 12 or above Bounty Hunter, the opportunity to take down players with bounties will also be unlocked. These structured PvP encounters will require you to catch the player within an allotted time. They also have the chance to surrender to you. However, capturing them is half the battle - afterwards, you need to deliver them to the authorities, during which they have the chance to escape from you. Rockstar has shared a list of Bounty Hunter items and abilities: Focus: Targets glow red in Eagle Eye Reinforced Lasso: A lasso made with reinforced rope to keep bounties secure Reverse Spin: Perform a Reverse Spin with a single pistol or revolver Tonics Satchel Upgrade: Store more items in your Tonics Pouch Eagle Eye+: Track enemies while sprinting or galloping Spin Up: Perform a Spin Up with a single pistol or revolver Kit Satchel Upgrade: Store more items in your Kit Pouch Tracking Arrow Pamphlet: A pamphlet recipe on how to craft Tracking Arrows Reverse Spin Up: Perform a Reverse Spin Up with a single pistol or revolver Ducking: Duck for protection while on horseback Bolas: A thrown weapon, perfect for tangling the legs of bounties Bounty Wagon: A wagon for securely retaining bounty targets Perception: Receive a notification of bounties from a greater distance Alternating Flips: Perform Alternating Flips with a single pistol or revolver Dual Gun Spinning: Perform gun spinning tricks with two pistols or revolvers The Trader In order to become a trader you will need to speak to Cripps at your camp. Buying the butcher's table is the entry requirement and costs the standard 15 Gold Bars - unless you're playing on PlayStation 4, in which case it's free. As a Trader, you'll need to collect materials, initially through hunting and theft, to supply Cripps. He'll then turn those materials into goods, which you can sell for a profit. You'll need to deliver your product to customers and the further away your destination, the larger the price premium you'll get. As your business grows, you'll need to increase the flow of materials. A higher level Trader will have access to larger wagons and various camp upgrades intended to protect your investment, such as the previously mentioned guard dog. Take a look at a few Trader items and abilities: Stew Pot: A camp upgrade that unlocks stew recipes to boost cores Ingredients Satchel Upgrade: Store more items in your Ingredients Pouch Awareness: Identify rival Trader wagons at an increased range Canine Warning: Train your dog to warn of thieves raiding your camp Medium and Large Delivery Wagons: Upgraded wagons that can hold more goods for transport Weapons Locker: Store weapons for later use Lance Knife: A bespoke knife style available to Traders only Efficiency: Learn to increase the amount of usable materials from perfect carcasses Materials Satchel Upgrade: Store more items in your Materials Pouch Hunting Wagon: A sturdy wagon fit for carrying multiple carcasses, hides and pelts Protection: Reduce the chance of raids at your camp The Collector If you have an eye for hidden treasures, you should seek out traveling saleswoman Madam Nazar to begin your journey as a collector. Once again, the base price of the Collector's Bag is 15 Gold Bars, but you can acquire it for free if you are a player of GTA Online and have successfully collected all 54 hidden vintage playing cards added in the recent Diamond Casino and Resort DLC. As a Collector, you'll progress by finding or digging up hidden treasures and heirlooms. While individual pieces will fetch decent prices at Madam Nazar, true progress is achieved by collecting full sets. As you become a more adept Collector, your endeavors will be assisted by abilities such as being able collect items from horseback or use a metal detector. Other Collector items and abilities include the following: Divination: Sense when near collectibles Pennington Field Shovel: An essential tool for uncovering buried collectibles Potential: Detect disturbed earth when using Eagle Eye Intuition: Narrow your search area Horse Saddlebag Upgrade: Carry more in your Horse’s saddlebag Refined Binoculars: Specialized binoculars that make dig sites glow from a great distance Águila Machete: A classic machete restyled for the use of adventurous and belligerent Collectors Metal Detector: An important tool which can identify collectibles buried underground Equine Assistance: Collect herbs from horseback Horse Lantern: Light the path ahead with a lantern attached to your horse’s breastplate Valuables Satchel Upgrade: Store more items in your Valuables Pouch The new update contains a lot more than roles, however. New Free Roam Events, new features, gameplay rebalancing to reduce reliance on headshots, more custom outfit slots and a bevy of other additions await on the 10th of September, next Tuesday! 11. This week in Red Dead Online you'll have a good excuse to replay the game's story missions. Limited issue clothing items from the past are making a reappearance and some items are discounted too. A Land Of Opportunities is a series of narratively driven missions that comprise the story element of Red Dead Online. These missions see you help Jessica LeClerk and Horley with various dangerous tasks throughout the game world, and your honor level even affects how some of them will play out. Providing a lot of the meat of RDO's content, there's plenty of reason to play these missions. Now, there's even more than usual - Rockstar have added a 30% bonus to all XP and RDO$ earned from playing A Land Of Opportunities missions this week. Level up faster and earn more cash by playing some of the game best content. What's not to love? With the rotating selection of limited issue clothing items, there are many items that newer players have already missed out on - however this week you have a second chance to grab some of them. The Owanjila Hat, the Concho Pants, the Charro Jacket and the Clymene Coat are all back on offer. Rockstar has also reduced some of the rank requirements of clothing items. All vests that require a rank of 31 or above are now accessible to rank 30 players, while vests with rank requirements in the 11-29 range are accessible to rank 10 players. A number of items have been discounted this week - and next week - including the Double-Action Revolver and the Springfield Rifle, both 25% off. The Hatchet and Cleaver, on the other hand, can be yours at half price. Ability Card Upgrades share the guns' 25% discount. If you've linked your Twitch Prime accounts, don't forget to claim your bonuses! The post A Land Of Opportunities Bonuses Pop Up In Red Dead Online appeared first on RDR2.org. Read the full story
  12. Rockstar just announced some interesting content coming to Red Dead Online later this summer. It will bring new gameplay mechanics and structured roleplaying for those of you who want to get more immersed in the life of your character and in the world around you. But how indicative is this of the direction Red Dead Online is going to take? Roleplaying communities quickly pop up in every multiplayer game's player bases. There are a lot of players who look at these virtual worlds as something more than just a way to pass the time or to chill out. Stepping into the shoes of your character and living in these worlds is a major draw for a sizeable crowd. Red Dead Online may not be an RPG, but it sure has a few RPG elements in it already, and the upcoming update will be expanding those even further. Players will be able to take on the roles of Bounty Hunter, Trader and Collector. Each come with their own perks, items and activities - a bit like Classes in traditional RPGs, but watered down some. There's also the aspect of taking on each role simultaneously if you wish. If someone is a completionist, or imagine their character as something of a polyhistor, they can progress through all three roles' activities and unlock their perks. However, if you want an immersive experience and you have a specific kind of character in mind, there's nothing stopping you from sticking to one role. Rockstar taking this route with Red Dead Online makes a great deal of sense in the grand scheme of things. Their main earner for the past five years has been Grand Theft Auto Online, one of the most popular games of all time, that somehow managed to break its own player count record, again and again, each year. GTA Online has its own highly dedicated roleplaying sub-community. However, the difference is that, in spite of being a very populous sub-community with some of the most-watched Streamers and Influencers among them, proper roleplay isn't quite supported in GTA Online, and third-party mods and servers are needed if you really want to get into it. It's already apparent that Rockstar is taking a more direct approach to roleplaying with Red Dead Online. They saw the massive popularity of these third-party RP solutions in GTA Online, and this time figure they'll be the ones to facilitate it. Presumably, the reason GTA Online didn't get any official roleplaying DLC is that it would require too much wrangling with the already established structure and code. Red Dead Online is more malleable - and, in spite of its obvious success, is still small fish compared to the behemoth that is GTA Online. Experimentation carries with it fewer risks. This is a dynamic we'll likely be seeing more evidence of. Red Dead Online will be a sandbox in which Rockstar's developers will be trying out wilder ideas, while they stay safe and on-brand with GTA Online. Simply put, it's less of a risk to put out a Red Dead Online update that doesn't stick. We're interested to see where this line of development will take the multiplayer component of Red Dead Redemption 2. We're pretty sure more roles will be added over time alongside these three and are hoping there will be more ways to interact with other players and characters that let us define the personality of our avatar in a more intimate way. 13. Rockstar has dropped a bit of info about an upcoming major Red Dead Online update. A major change is coming, planting the seeds of deeper roleplaying opportunities, with three specialized "Roles" that will be introduced. Now, we know more about how these roles will work. The three Roles being added later this summer will bring new interaction and gameplay options to the game, while giving players a greater measure of choice and control over their character's personality. The new update is also indicative of Red Dead Online's long term future, with more updates further expanding the roleplay aspect. Bounty Hunter The Bounty Hunter role is clearly the one most geared towards PvP of the three. Bounty Hunters can skirt either side of the law, collecting rewards on targets - dead or alive. As a hunter, you'll be given targets who did enough mischief to have a price put on their head (including unruly players) who can then be tracked and incapacitated. As you progress through the Bounty Hunter's own mission set and skills, you'll unlock unique perks such as stronger lassoes and unique gear. Trader If you enjoy living off the land, gathering materials and crafting items, the Trader role may be best suited for you. Trader progression will be centered around your camp and the surrounding wilderness, as the focus is on gathering crafting materials and creating goods to sell and trade. Perks include unique camp upgrades like a Weapons Locker, the ability to keep guard dogs, and the addition of unique items like satchel upgrades not available to other roles. You'll also receive hunting wagons to reduce the number of times you need to take your game back to camp. Collector If you get your kicks from happening upon strange items in the wild, and find yourself spending most of your time in Red Dead Online with exploration, the Collector is the role for you. A true treasure hunter and adventurer, the Collector seeks out hidden wonders and lost relics in the most remote areas of the game map - in order to flip these valuable treasures for a profit. Perks for this role include a wide variety of skills aimed at making finding lost treasures easier, including a metal detector of all things. Conveniently enough, you won't need to choose between these - it is possible to take on multiple roles simultaneously, so you can even progress with all three at the same time if you wish. If you prefer a more immersive roleplaying experience however, there is nothing stopping you from sticking to just one. The upcoming update will bring a whole lot more to the table too. Rockstar is tight-lipped about specific details so far, but movement and combat overhauls are part of the package, and more lootable objects will be added. Most excitingly, the option to re-customize your character is also coming, making that single character slot sting a little bit less. We'll keep you up to date with any new info about this upcoming summer DLC. The post Upcoming Red Dead Online Update Bringing 3 New Roles appeared first on RDR2.org. Read the full story

  15. Your trusty four-legged steed is undoubtedly your closest, and sometimes only, companion in the rough frontier world of Red Dead Online. Helping you traverse vast distances, running through bullets and chasing after stagecoaches isn't easy work, so Rockstar decided it's horse appreciation week. Before we learn more about caring for our equine friends, Red Dead Online has also been expanded with new clothing options this week. You can don the wide-brimmed and stylish Descoteaux Hat, protect your legs with the sturdy Alvarado Chaps or adorn your footwear with the high-end Gerden Morrow Spurs. These three are permanent additions to the catalog, while the Cossack Hat returns for a second week of limited availability. Moving on to horses, while caring for our companion is essential, we also need to make sure we have the right mount. To help players make their best match, all horses below rank 40 are 20% off all week, including fine breeds like the Flaxen Roan Tennessee Walker. Different horses are ideal for different tasks, so you may entertain the notion of owning multiple ones if you have the gold to spare. The horses will need to live somewhere when they're not your active mount, which is where Stables come in. Stable Spaces are 20% off this week, to ease the costs of storing your new horses. Your horses need some attention and love every now and then too, which is where the Horse Care Package comes in. Care Packages in previous weeks often had an unlocking requirement, tied to ranks for the most part, but this time every player gets a care package automatically, no strings attached. The horse care package includes horse reviver for worst-case scenarios, 2 horse medicine for not-as-bad case scenarios, 2 horse stimulants and a selection of horse treats including 5 oatcakes, 5 hay and 5 carrots, so you can reward your mount with their favorite snack. This is also the last week before the deadline for the first batch of Twitch Prime bonuses rolls around. Link your accounts if you haven't already! 16. Players logging into Red Dead Online this week have the chance to earn a new care package by completing challenges. You'll also be able to purchase a selection of new clothing items from the in-game catalog. Twitch Prime members are encouraged to link their accounts to their Social Club profile too, since the deadline for the first batch of benefits is coming up. The all-new Explorer Care Package has arrived to Red Dead Online, making tribute to the brave adventurers eking out a living on the frontier. Players who manage to complete the requirements for unlocking the pack before the 16th of July can pick it up at either a post office or their camp's lockbox. All you need to do is complete a total of 10 Daily Challenges before the deadline to get the Explorer Care Package. The package includes everything you need to survive in the wilderness, far from civilization. That includes 60 poison arrows, 100 Varmint Cartridges, Thyme, Wild Mint, Oregano, Prime Beef Joint, Tender Pork Loin, Live Crickets, Live Worms and 5 tins of Jolly Jacks. New permanent clothing options available from the Wheeler, Rawson and Co. Catalogue include the double breasted red Durham Coat, as well as the more rugged and tough Riggs Fringe Coat and Fieldwork Hat. Limited additions to the catalog this week include 2 hats - the Cossack Hat and the Gardenia Hat. While the weekly bonuses last until the 16th of July, a different deadline will end on the 19th - that is the deadline for linking your Twitch Prime account with your Rockstar Social Club profile to get in on the first wave of goodies as part of a new promotion. 17. Red Dead Online offers players a vast breadth of content to tackle, and with so much to do it's sometimes hard to pick what to spend time on. Daily Challenges are here to make that decision easier, giving you a rotating checklist of tasks to perform every day. Completing these challenges will net you additional awards beyond the RDO$, Gold and XP you'd earn from performing the required activities by default. If you're diligent and complete all of your daily challenges, day after day without fault, you'll start a streak that will grant you increasingly impressive rewards the longer you keep it up. Sometimes life has other plans and you can't login one day for whatever reason. Bothersome, but understandable. However, some players have been losing their streaks even though they kept up their daily challenges every single day. Due to a bug, network issues, or some server-side kerfuffle, sometimes you'll lose the streak even if you completed all your challenges - but don't fret. Several players have reported on various community sites, including our own, that if this issue strikes Rockstar Support may step in to salvage the situation, at least partially. Players who reported the loss of their daily challenge streaks even though they completed all the tasks each day may receive compensation in the form of Gold and XP. Note that there is no guarantee you'll get compensated - some players report Rockstar Support simply saying there is nothing they can do - however server logging should turn up evidence that you truly did keep up your streak. You won't get the streak back, which is a bummer, but some players received reimbursement of 20 Gold Bars and RDO$ 500, for example. Keep in mind that since server logs are the only way to verify this, you can't game the system and claim you lost a streak you never had. It may seem like easy money, but you'll just end up making a fool of yourself! Be sure to check out our challenge guide while you're here. The post Lost Your Red Dead Online Challenge Streak? 18. Does it count as a leak if it comes from the official source, but unintentionally? As spotted by Twitter user JakoMako51, some javascript on the official Rockstar Social Club website includes a reference to Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC. Can you see it?Specifically, there is a short and simple, but very telling, snippet that reads "RDR2_PC_Accomplishments" in the file. This, on its own, would be easy to dismiss. PC could stand for something else, right? However, the snippet is found right next to "RDR2_ PS4_Trophies". Same line, same syntax. This makes it a smoking gun. Screenshot of the leaked menu.Red Dead Redemption 2's alleged PC port has been "leak" in various forms several times over, including mentions in multiple portfolios belonging to former Rockstar employees, and even a video recording of what is claimed to be an in-game graphics option menu for the port. Considering the success of the game, the interest it has generated and the obvious demand for it to be launched on PC, coupled with all of these leaks, it's almost certain at this point that it's coming - unless Rockstar cancels it to spite us all. When do you think the PC port will be officially announced? The post Rockstar Social Club Source Code Refers To Red Dead Redemption 2 On PC appeared first on RDR2.org. Read the full story
  19. Though a number of successful alternatives have cropped up over the years, Twitch remains the #1 platform for game streaming. Hundreds of passionate fans stream Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto 5 gameplay to thousands of viewers every day. Now, Rockstar is partnering with Twitch and bringing some unique rewards to those fans who like watching just as much as they like playing. Twitch Prime, the streaming platform's premium subscription service, often runs promotions together with notable game publishers to bring subscribers various in-game rewards. If you're a Twitch Prime subscriber and play Red Dead Online, or its sibling Grand Theft Auto Online, you can earn free in-game currency and more by linking your Twitch Prime account with your Rockstar Social Club account. If you link the accounts before the 19th of July, you'll automatically become eligible for the first wave of bonuses. In Red Dead Online, this constitutes RDO$300 as well as a Superior Ammo Bundle, containing 30 Dynamite Arrows, 60 Incendiary Buckshot Ammo, 30 Volatile Fire Bottles and 200 Express Ammo for the Pistol, Revolver, Repeater & Rifle weapons. In GTA Online, you'll get GTA$1,250,000. The bonuses don't end with a one-time gift, however. Players whose accounts are linked will gain access to a rotating selection of weekly in-game discounts that aren't offered to players who don't link up their profiles. Additionally, all items in-game that would be discounted anyway as part of weekly events will have larger discounts to the tune of 10%. Rotating discounts also apply to microtransactions. If you link your Twitch Prime account, you can expect to see up to 15% discounts or bonus value on all Gold and Shark Card purchases, getting you more bang for your buck. In order to become eligible, you'll need to have completed the tutorials of the respective games and played at least an additional 30 minutes beyond that - but we don't imagine that should be a problem for anyone. 20. Another week, another infusion of new fashion options in Red Dead Online. The new items are also joined by a fresh emote, as well as a slew of bonuses and discounts to celebrate the upcoming 4th of July - after all, who better knows how to celebrate freedom than frontiersmen? What could possibly be more American than something related to firearms? Rockstar thought the same when they decided to frontline their July 4th celebrations with a free gun oil bonus. Players can use Gun Oil to maintain weapons, and repair degradation in the moving parts. Additionally, all weapon components are 30% off, allowing you to exercise your right to bear arms with a lower budget. Additionally, the Evans Rifle is 25% off, so grab this fantastic gun while it's cheap. All red, white and blue Camp Flags are free this week, and patriotic players can buy red, white and blue Bandanas for their characters at half price through the 8th of July. This week players can also earn big with Free Roam missions. Through the 8th of July, all Free Roam missions pay out 30% more RDO$ and XP than usual. A selection of new Free Roam missions were just added recently, so if you already know your way around the old missions now is a great time to try out the new ones. The new clothing options available in the Wheeler, Rawson and Co. Catalogue include both limited and permanent items. The Pelt Half Chaps are all about keeping you warm in the cold of the mountains and are available only for a limited time alongside a re-run of the Griffith Chaps. Permanent additions include the Cromwell Hat and the Cabrera Pants. You can also grab the game's newest emote for free if you're quick on your toes. The new "Respectful Bow" emote is free just this week, after which you'll need to pay if you want it. The post New Emote, Clothing Hits Red Dead Online appeared first on RDR2.org. Read the full story
  21. Red Dead Redemption and the James Bond 007 franchise have very little in common, so we didn't expect to ever be writing about the two in the same article, but here we are. In a rather absurd - and since discredited - rumor, the embattled filming of Bond 25 was further hindered when director Cary Joji Fukunaga didn't show up on set one day because he was busy playing Red Dead Redemption 2. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat? The latest James Bond film has had trouble during filming already. Danny Boyle was set to direct prior to Fukunaga but walked out on creative differences, and lead actor Daniel Craig - who returns to depict 007 despite having said the previous film was his last outing as Bond - suffered an injury on-set. Cary Fukunaga was accused of running late and holding up shooting due to playing video games, specifically Red Dead Redemption 2, of which he is a known fan. The director refuted these claims, and since neither side has any concrete evidence, the whole situation is a bit of a mess. Fukunaga took to Instagram to clarify the situation, mentioning that his progress in the story mode of the game has been "stunted at 63% for months" and that if anyone would spoil the game before he's finished filming Bond 25, he'd be "pissed". That is a sentiment we wholly understand. He also explained that in a job like his "no one sleeps", let alone has time to play video games long enough to not show up on set. Filming schedules are extremely tight, in order to keep expenses as low as possible, and leaving no time to waste. Who knows, maybe something good will come of this - Take-Two has recently expressed interest in selling licensing rights to its IP for the creation of films, and this highlight of Fukunaga's appreciation of Red Dead Redemption could lead to a film directed by him in the future. After he's finished playing through 2, of course. The post Bond 25 Filming Reportedly Halted Due To Red Dead Redemption 2 appeared first on RDR2.org. Read the full story
  22. Red Dead Online features a massive map filled with all kinds of activities, minute details, breathtaking vistas and enough content to make sure you won't feel the need to go beyond it any time soon. But even the biggest video game maps have their borders, and if you find a way out of bounds, that's when things truly start getting weird. Maintaining the illusion is what makes or breaks immersion and, in order to keep up the suspense of disbelief, developers will go to all kinds of lengths to hide the frayed seams of their virtual worlds. We've seen a snapshot of how the world of Red Dead Online is made to seem bigger than it is back when a few players managed to glitch their way into a low-res Mexico, but this time some others ventured much further and documented the journey. Kalonica has shared a visual summary of their expedition beyond the edge of Red Dead Online's map. When players reach the border of the area the developers intended for them to see, they'll encounter either natural obstacles like mountains, or a less elegant invisible wall. Sometimes, it's possible to use glitches to get past these invisible walls. Red Dead Online's vast vistas make for fantastic views, and they continue on beyond the player boundary to maintain realism. However, since players aren't ever meant to see these places up close, they're less developed, and actually going there reveals some development tricks. If you manage to glitch your way out of the map - which is done at one particular point, next to a particular cliff, only works with your weapon drawn and takes several tries - you can get a closer look. First, things will look mostly normal. The wilderness around you will follow the biome used within the borders, you just won't encounter animals, NPCs or anything to interact with. If you go further out, the first change you'll see is the rougher transition between ground texture tiles, and eventually a marked decrease in ground texture resolution. This is a "level-of-detail" technique used to save on processing power. Basically, the further away something is, the lower the resolution it needs to be since you won't notice anyway. Inside the playing area, this scales dynamically - as you get closer, the object in question is constantly replaced with higher and higher LOD versions. Since, under normal circumstances, nobody would be close enough for the ground texture to change out here, it's static. The next step when getting further out is the disappearance of props. Bushes, grass, and other plants and foilage will disappear completely, leaving only a barren ground texture. Again, this is a LOD technique, since from the border you wouldn't see them anyway. It's also here that the procedural topography starts getting rough. With maps as big as the one in Red Dead Online not every single hill, mountain and bump in the road is handcrafted. Much of it is procedurally generated based on an algorithm to make it feel varied and natural. This far out, hills and bumps will stop looking smooth or natural. You'll start seeing a lot more straight vertices, hard angles, and even completely unnatural topography like a cluster of small pyramids. Going further in this increasingly alien landscape, another large straight line slices the ground in half, where the los-res ground texture is replaced by a textureless, solid-color ground. Soon after that, the ground disappears entirely and is replaced by a vast, empty void that exists below the game map. Interestingly enough, this void is recognized as water by the in-game physics - after falling for an hour, that is. At this point the character's stamina just ran out, since all they could do is swim endlessly and die. Thus ends the daring expedition beyond the border of Red Dead Online's map. It's eerie and strange, but if you've ventured out of bounds in other games before it will seem similar too - most games use the same tricks, and look identical to this one from the outside. It's also your last chance to redeem some care packages if you reached the necessary level requirements. The main new additions this week are customization items for your characters. The Lightfoot Pants are a stylish fashion statement with elaborate stitched designs. 25. Red Dead Online's newest game mode will test your riding skills as well as your combat prowess. Joining the new mode are a series of new clothing options, various additional bonuses to make progression a bit easier, and a pair of care packages to help you out with consumables. In Sport Of Kings, your horsemanship and team coordination abilities will be required to secure victory for your team. The goal is to use the torch to light your team's signal fires that are scattered throughout the map. When all of your fires are lit, you score a point. There is only one torch, and other players can grab it from you if you die while carrying it. To that end, everyone is equipped with shotguns, and there are explosive arrow pickups present on the map. You light the signal fires by riding through them with the torch. Three new clothing items have been added to the in-game catalog. The Strung Sombrero is perfect in the summer heat, the Gibbston Pants are rugged and tough for the road, and finally the Chuparosa Poncho gets a black repaint for all the edgy characters out there. Players will also receive care packages this week based on what ranks they have reached in the game. Anyone who is at least Rank 10 will get a bonus 20x Fire, Poison and Small Game arrows as well as 5x Predator and Herbivore baits. However, if you've hit Rank 20 or above, you'll get a second package as well, this time containing 3x Minty, Oregano and Thyme Big Game Meats, 5x Jolly Jacks's, Cocaine Gum, Moonshine, Gin, Guarma Rum and Fire Brandy as well as 10x Corned Beef and Canned Salmon. To help you reach these rank requirements, this week there is a universal 30% increase on all XP. Any activity in Red Dead Online that earns you XP will give you that much more.
