Cannot “Pat” or take horse out of barn in chapter 1 Colter

Cannot “Pat” or take horse out of barn in chapter 1 Colter. I’ve tried from all angles in the approach and rebooted my ps4 multiple times. I follow the controller instructions but it will not Pat the horse nor walk it out of the barn. PLEASE help! Cannot proceed in the game without doing it. Thanks!

you picked up your hat and gun?  you can't pat the horse to calm it if you haven't done that yet.
