Catching street kid in Joys of Civilization

How do you catch the kid who steals your satchel? I have tried playing this multiple times by reloading my manual save and no luck-it’s very frustrating-has anyone else actually caught him? any advice would be great

Youtube is your best friend - at least, it has been for me, in terms of trying to grab him. I've been able to do it, just depends on your speed and very near-miss shortcuts.

I don't think you're actually supposed to physically catch him, just chase him to his destination.
