Chapter 6 Missions And Gold Medals Guide

Favored Sons

Favored Sons is the ninth story mission in Chapter 6 and the 74th mission in story mode. This mission is unlocked after completing the Goodbye, Dear Friend mission. To start the mission, talk with Eagle Flies in Cumberland Forest.

In this mission, Arthur and Dutch will cooperate with the Eagle Files and the Wapiti Tribe to assault the US Army. A very bad idea that will not end well.

There are a few firefights in this mission, so make sure to be stocked with Dead Eye restorative items, as you must use the special ability as much as possible to avoid using any health item, which is one of the requirements for the Gold Medal.

Follow Dutch's instructions to wire up the plants, then take position in the location marked on the map, and detonate the dynamite when Dutch tells you to. Some of the soldiers will be killed by the explosion, but the survivors will retaliate, and a fight will ensue.

To get the Gold Medal for this mission, you must get 35 headshots. The number of enemies is massive, so you won't have much trouble clearing this requirement. Right at the beginning of the fight, equip any scoped rifle and start killing enemies with headshots. They are trying to get to you, so keep an eye on the paths leading to your position and avoid getting damaged. After a short while, the enemies will start retreating: take as many of them as you can with headshots to meet the Gold Medal requirement.

Once all soldiers have fled, head down to loot corpses. The fight, however, is far from being done, as more enemies have arrived, together with a powerful cannon. To get the Gold Medal for this mission, you must kill the soldier on the cannon within 45 seconds. Before getting to the cannon, try to kill as many enemies as possible to avoid getting damaged too much.

After the soldier manning the cannon is dead more reinforcements will arrive. Dutch and Arthur will make their escape, first by horse, then on foot. During this sequence, you will be ambushed repeatedly by enemies, so always keep an eye on the mini-map to avoid getting damaged too much.

Eventually the two outlaws will be surrounded by the US Army and the only way out is to jump off a cliff. After the jump, follow Dutch until a cutscene plays. Once the cutscene is over, the mission will be complete.

The Bridge to Nowhere

The Bridge to Nowhere is the tenth story mission in Chapter 6 and the 75th mission in the story mode. It's unlocked after completing The Delights of Van Horn mission and waiting one hour of in-game time to pass. To start the mission, talk with John Marston at Bacchus Station.

John has been tasked with setting some dynamite to the nearby bridge in order to blow it up and slow down the US Army, and Arthur will have to help. After talking with John, follow the instructions to reach the middle of the bridge. Here, you will have to grab a box of dynamite and get close to the railing. Lower the box down by following the instructions and repeat the process for a second box. Now that the dynamite has been moved down, it's time to plant it.

To get the Gold Medal for this mission, you must plant the dynamite within 1 minute and 35 seconds, which is a rather tight time limit. Grab some dynamite, hurry to one of the marked locations on the map, press the square or X button to plant it, then repeat the process two more times. To make things faster, start with the closest location and end with the farther one, as a cutscene that plays right after planting the third bundle of dynamite will bring you back to the ladder automatically, making you save some time.

Now that the dynamite has been planted, it's time to leave the bridge. Climb the ladder back up and get on the hand cart. A train, however, is approaching, and you will have to be very quick.

To get the Gold Medal for this mission, you must escape the oncoming train within 19 seconds. It's not too difficult if you have the timing for the button presses to operate the hand cart down. If you mistime any, however, the cart will lose speed, and this will likely prevent you from clearing this requirement.

Once you manage to escape the incoming train, the bridge will be blown up and the mission will be complete.

Archeology for Beginners

Archeology for Beginners is the 11th story mission in Chapter 6 and the 76th mission in the story. It is unlocked after completing the A Rage Unleashed mission earlier in the chapter. To start the mission, speak with Rains Fall at the Wapiti Indian Reservation.

The Wapiti chief has previously learned of Arthur's illness and he wants to help the outlaw with a remedy known to his people. You will accompany Rains Fall on the mountains to find three different herbs, while learning more about the character as well as Arthur's current struggles and disapproval of Dutch's latest decisions.

Eventually, you will be brought to a sacred place, which has been burned down. A sacred item, the Chanupa, has been stolen as well, and Arthur offers his help to the chief to find those responsible. Activate Eagle Eye to highlight items and clues, which will eventually reveal that some who had too much to drink burned the site. Once Rains Fall calls you, head over to this location and use the binoculars to spot a few drunken soldiers, who are likely the ones behind the burning. Now that their camp has been spotted, it's time to recover the lost relics.

To get the Gold Medal for this mission, you must recover the relics without being detected and within 1 minute 30 seconds. This is one of the hardest Gold Medals to get in the whole story mode, as you must be extremely quick and remain undetected, and it's very easy to mess things up when trying to be fast.

Once you regain control of Arthur, get on your horse and gallop hard to reach the camp without getting detected: to do this, avoid using the main road and approach the camp from its southeastern corner. Get off your horse and proceed inside the camp while making sure to not get spotted: a couple of soldiers will be moving around, while a few others, like the ones near the fire, will not move at all.

Reach the tent in the middle of the camp with a bedroll to recover the item, and then leave the camp the way you came in. You must be very quick during your escape, as you must leave before the soldier sitting on the bed rises - he will get to the middle of the camp and will detect you if you're not quick enough.

Once out of the camp, get on the horse and ride back to Rains Fall to give him back the relic. You will be rewarded with the Owl Feather Trinket, which reduces the drain speed of all of Arthur's cores. After this, the mission will be complete.

Honor Amongst Thieves

Honor Amongst Thieves is the 12th story mission in Chapter 6 and the 77th mission in the story. The mission is unlocked after completing the Archaeology for Beginners mission. To begin the mission, talk with Captain Monroe at the Wapiti Indian Reservation.

Captain Monroe is a US Army captain who disagrees with the army's stance on the Natives. During this mission, he wants to recover some medicine that the army diverted away, and Arthur will help him accomplish this.

To get the Gold Medal for this mission, you must complete it within 5 minutes. For this reason, you must skip all cutscenes, as watching them in full will make you miss the requirement. Once you regain control of Arthur, follow the Captain until you reach an overlook where a cutscene will play. Skip the cutscene again to save some time.

Go down the hill so that you can reach the wagon from behind without being seen. Follow it until you can jump on it, then continue crouched to avoid getting spotted and search for the vaccine.

To get the Gold Medal for this mission, you must recover the vaccine without being detected. This isn't difficult to achieve at all, as long as you avoid shooting the drivers. Once you have found the medicine, jump from the wagon, get back on your horse and ride to the reservation to complete the mission.

The Fine Art of Conversation

The Fine Art of Conversation is the 13th story mission in Chapter 6 and the 78th mission in story mode. This mission is unlocked right after completing the Honor Amongst Thieves mission. To start it, you must talk with Trelawny at Roanoke Ridge.

Even though you will be talking with Trelawny, the man has nothing to do with the mission, as he will only tell you that he's leaving for good. Right after this, Charles and Rain Falls will inform you that the Wapiti may be able to broker peace with the US Army. Arthur will follow the two to the place where negotiations will take place.

To get the Gold Medal, you must complete it within 9 minutes and 30 seconds, which is more than doable by skipping all cutscenes, and without using any health item.

Follow Charles to the negotiations site and then get close to the table where Colonel Favours, Captain Monroe and Rain Falls are. Shortly after, Arthur will be brought to a tent to rest, where he will overhear that the whole thing is a set up to get Captain Monroe executed for treason.

After this, Arthur will rejoin the negotiations where things turn chaotic very soon. Monroe is to be arrested, but Arthur intervenes, taking a hostage so to let the captain escape. Get on the horse and escape from the camp.

To get the Gold Medal for this mission, you must kill a pursuer's horse during the escape and complete the mission with at least 75% accuracy. During this sequence, you will be chased by quite a few enemies, so make sure to use Dead Eye as much as possible to keep your accuracy high and kill as many enemies as possible to avoid getting damaged too much.

After a short while, however, Monroe's horse will be shot, and you will have to protect him against a few waves of enemies. Continue using Dead Eye to be as accurate as possible.

Once all enemies have been killed, you must get Monroe on your horse. At this point, more pursuers will appear: proceed to the marked location on the map while killing them with the help of Dead Eye. Once near the train, a cutscene will play. Skip it to complete the mission.

The King’s Son

The King’s Son is the 14th story mission in Chapter and the 79th mission in the story mode. The mission is unlocked after completing The Fine Art of Conversation and Favored Sons missions. To begin the mission, talk with Charles at the Wapiti Indian Reservation.

Eagle Flies has been captured by the US Army and will soon be executed. Charles has no intention of letting this happen and has prepared a plan to rescue him. Arthur will obviously help him.

Follow Charles to the fort and make sure to always stay undetected. You will meet a few soldiers on patrol, who can be killed silently with the bow and arrows or throwing knives. Continue following Charles for a while until you get inside the fort.

To get the Gold Medal for this mission, you must complete it with at least 80% accuracy and headshot every soldier blocking your way to Eagle Flies while infiltrating Fort Wallace. The latter requirement is very specific, and you will have to use Dead Eye each time you encounter a pair of guards, as they must be killed at the same time to avoid having Charles make the kill.

Once inside the fort, continue killing enemies while running around the perimeter until you get on the walls thanks to the grappling hook. Take the lead every time Charles asks you to, continue killing enemies with headshots. Always remember to activate Dead Eye when there's more than a single enemy to kill to prevent Charles from making any kill.

Eventually, you will get down from the walls, but there are too many enemies to make a direct assault. Continue following Charles' instructions until you can shoot the lantern, which creates the perfect diversion. Get back down and then head over to Eagle Flies' cell. Get the key from the nearby enemy to release the young man.

Stealth is no longer an option and a big firefight will ensue. Kill as many enemies as you can while keeping accuracy high. After a short while, Eagle Flies will lead you to a hole in the wall which has been recently repaired. Use dynamite to open it up again and make your escape.

While on horseback, continue shooting enemies down until you reach the canoe. Finish all remaining enemies, then go get the other boats to continue your escape.

To get the Gold Medal for this mission, you must kill 15 enemies while escaping in the canoe. Follow Charles and shoot down enemies as they appear, but make sure to always use Dead Eye here, as it's extremely difficult to maintain accuracy high during this sequence. At the end of the escape sequence, a cutscene will play and the mission will be complete.
