To trigger camp item requests in Red Dead Redemption 2, spend time in the gang camp during Chapters 2–4 and speak to companions while they are performing their usual activities. Requests are short, missable conversations rather than missions you can start from a menu. If nobody asks for an item, leave camp, sleep until a different time of day, return and talk to everyone again.
You may collect most requested items before the conversation occurs, but Arthur cannot hand one over until its request appears in the task log. Completing five requests earns the Errand Boy trophy or achievement; individual requests can also award Honor and small gifts.
How to trigger item requests
- Visit the active Van der Linde gang camp, mainly during Chapters 2, 3 and 4.
- Walk around rather than immediately sleeping or opening a menu. Watch for companions reading, crafting, smoking, playing poker or talking near their tents.
- Speak to each available companion. Some requests only occur at a particular time of day or after a related story interaction.
- If nothing triggers, ride away, set up a temporary camp, sleep to advance time and return.
- Check the task log from the left D-pad menu on console after the conversation.
There is no single guaranteed request button. Most become available between Chapter 2 and Chapter 4; Charles has an additional Epilogue request and Uncle’s request is Epilogue-only. Because camp populations and activities change with the story, complete requests when they appear.
You can pick up most items early and keep them in the satchel. Once the matching conversation has occurred, speak to that character again and choose the give-item prompt. Return a few in-game days later if the character offers a follow-up reward.
Abigail Marston
Abigail’s request is among the simplest to complete, as she only asks for $5, making it one of the best to complete when it comes to getting the Errand Boy trophy. Abigail doesn’t give any reward, so you will only see a small boost in Honor.
Bill Williamson
Bill’s request is another very easy request to complete. He needs Hair Pomade, which can be purchased at most General Stores all over the world and even found as loot by checking enemy corpses. Arthur will receive repeater ammo in exchange for the item as well as a small Honor boost.
Charles Smith
Charles is among the characters that will ask Arthur the highest number of items, as he needs Moonshine, Oleander, and an Eagle Feather. The first two requests can become available during the main story, while the final only during the Epilogue which can be completed as John.
Moonshine can be purchased at any fence or it can be found in enemy camps. Oleander is a rare herb that’s mostly found in the swamps surrounding Saint Denis, in Lemoyne. The Eagle Feather is obtained by hunting any eagle and looting its corpse. The rewards are boosts in Honor as well as fire arrows, poison arrows, and a Horse Reviver.
Dutch van der Linde
Dutch’s request involves finding a rare item, his pipe. This item can be found in a cabin that located a little to the north of the “W” in West Elizabeth on the map: it’s very easy to spot by zooming the map as much as possible. Recovering the pipe, however, is not exactly easy, as a Grizzly Bear has taken residence in the cabin and will attack you on sight: equip any shotgun or rifle, activate Dead Eye and fill it with lead. Once the bear is dead, check the desk to find the pipe. Dutch will give you Spurs for your trouble. Honor will also be boosted.
Hosea Matthews
Hosea will ask Arthur for two different items: two American Ginseng and a book, the Shrew in the Fog. American Ginseng is among the most common plants in the whole game and it can be usually found near forested areas in the New Hanover region.
The Shrew in the Fog book can be in a cabin located near Saint Denis, right below the “O” in Bayou on the map. Completing the first request will net you some Potent Medicine; completing the second some Predator Bait. Completing both requests also boosts Honor.
Jack Marston
Young Jack Marston will ask for two items: Abigail’s Thimble and the Penny Dreadful comic book. The second request only becomes available after completing a story mission in Chapter 2 where Arthur takes the boy fishing. The first item is very easy to find, just check the Marstons’ tent to get it.
The second is a rare item that can be found in different locations, such as a cabin that’s located to the southeast of Emerald Station. For completing the first request, Jack will give you a drawing; for the second, a chocolate bar. Honor will also be boosted.
Javier Escuella
Javier will ask Arthur for Oleander, which can be found only in the swamps surrounding Saint Denis. The outlaw will give Arthur some Poison Throwing Knives for his trouble. Arthur will also get a small Honor boost.
Kieran Duffy
Kieran asks Arthur to bring him two Burdock Roots. This plant can be found in the western side of the Great Plains regions, near the river banks and rocks. The reward for completing this request is a Horse Medicine and a Honor boost.
Lenny Summer
Lenny asks Arthur to bring him a Silver Pocket Watch, which is a rare item that can only be found in a specific location. The location is the same cabin where you can find Dutch’s pipe, the cabin located to the north of the “W” in West Elizabeth on the map.
Remember that there’s a Grizzly Bear lying in wait for you, so be prepared. The watch can be found on the desk. Lenny will give you dynamite in exchange for the watch. You will also receive a small Honor boost.
Mary-Beth Gaskill
Mary-Beth will ask Arthur to bring her a Fountain Pen, which is a rare item. This pen can be found in the same cabin where one of the Penny Dreadful comic book can be found, the cabin to the southeast of Emerald Station. The pen is in the drawer near the corpse. The reward for completing this request is a ring and a small Honor boost.
Molly O’Shea
Molly O’Shea asks Arthur to find a Pocket Mirror. This is a rare item that can only be found inside a cabin located to the north of the “V” in Hanover on the map. The closest point of reference is the trapper’s camp in the area. The mirror can be found in the drawer near the bed. Molly will give Arthur a cigar for fulfilling her request. You will also get a Honor boost for your trouble.
Simon Pearson
The Vand der Linde gang’s cook will ask Arthur for two items: the Naval Compass and a rabbit.
The first is a rare item that can only be found inside a building to the west of Braithwaite Manor, right on the shore of Flat Iron lake. The compass can be found on the table inside the building. The second is, unsurprisingly, a rabbit that can be hunted in pretty much all regions of the map. The carcass’ quality won’t matter, so kill the animal any way you want. You will get a bottle of rum and a Nutritious Stew for completing the two requests. Honor will also be boosted.
Sadie Adler
Sadie asks Arthur to bring her a unique item, the Harmonica. The item can be found inside Emmet Granger’s farm, which is located to the southeast of Flatneck Station. You already visited this location if you completed The Noblest of Man, and a Woman stranger mission. Sadie will give you Gun Oil for fulfilling her request. You will also get a small Honor boost.
Sean MacGuire
Sean will ask Arthur to bring him some Kentucky Bourbon. This is an extremely common item that can be bought in general stores. Sean will give you a Fire Bottle for it. You will also get a small Honor boost.
Susan Grimshaw
Susan asks Arthur to bring her two units of Oregano. This plant is extremely common, and it can be found pretty much all over the map. You will receive a Potent Miracle Tonic for completing this request. Honor will also get boosted.
Tilly Jackson
Tilly asks Arthur to bring her a necklace. This is an extremely common item that can be found in all random camps on the map as well as by looting corpses. The reward for completing this request is a Medicine, as well as a small Honor boost.
Uncle
Uncle will ask John to bring him Medicinal Cream, but only during the Epilogue. This item cannot be purchased in any store, and can only be crafted at camp with Milkweed, Kentucky Bourbon, Peppermint, Pomade, and Stringy Meat. The reward for completing this request is a set of clothes and an Honor boost.
