Things you didn't know you could do in RDR2
Dubya75 replied to Poggy's topic in Red Dead Redemption 2
I just discovered that there is a "Horse station" function at camp. If you walk up to a hitching post, you get the "Horse station" prompt where you can swap out your horses (if you own multiple horses). Neat. -
What are you hoping to achieve by contacting Digital Foundry? What can they do?
-
Yes, unfortunately R* does not have the balls to admit their mistakes and fix them.
-
Just to chime in and add to what you said. There are TWO distinct and separate problems with RDR2 on PS4 Pro. 1 - 4K Checkerboard Rendering from a 1080p source is absolutely ridiculous. With an added, aggressive AA solution, resulting in a blurry image. It is absolutely NOT anything to do with TV settings. Because every other PS4 game looks BETTER than RDR2 on PS4 Pro. This is simply unacceptable from the highest profile game developer on the planet. 2 - HDR is fake. Not even just broken, but absolutely a FAKE implementation - this has been proven by measuring the color ranges in the supposedly "HDR" mode. But this is not only on Ps4 Pro. This is on every platform. And R* knows they implemented a FAKE HDR solution. It was no accident. And therefore they should not get a free pass because they LIED to their consumers.
-
Yes, but NO. I don't have to make any such ridiculous adjustments when playing any other PS4 game. And they all look better than RDR2. This needs to be fixed by ROCKSTAR.
-
Yes, it is disappointing. You'd think R* would be on top of it, seeing this is now their flagship title.
-
I've come across many many instances in the game where AI aggression and crime reporting mechanics are just absolutely broken! The first example of this would be when someone on horseback rides into you. And immediately you are the one having done wrong and the law starts chasing you down. This is absolutely ridiculous. The second and probably most striking example is duelling. As rare as this event is in RDR2, if you win a duel, it is immediately seen as a crime! WHAT? A third scenario is when you come across a train being robbed. So you shoot the bandits. Instead of getting a little gratitude, you are accused of disturbing the peace! Disturbing the peace by stopping a train robbery? SERIOUSLY? Come on, Rockstar! You worked on this game for how long? And broken gameplay elements this glaring is still present? This needs to be fixed!

You have 4 slots in the stables for your own horses. The horse you are currently riding, and up to 3 more. You will have access to your horses at any stable. I think they do sell different horses though, but I am not 100% sure about this.

Haha, yes I am very critical. But also logical in my opinions (i think). Aside from a few things that really does sometimes spoil the experience for me such as the bad rendering on PS4 Pro, the lack of HDR and the heavy, cumbersome user interface and controls (especially when your character is on foot - he moves WAY too slow), this game is still an absolute phenomenon! It is slow paces, yes. The story is a slow-burner, for sure. But there is enough things in the game that is done unbelievably well and those things redeem the game for me. The setting, the lighting, the environments, the way all the activities gel together so well...it is a truly amazing game. But it is also let down by NPC modelling and animations that is sometimes done terribly. And I mean, TERRIBLY! Like crappy indy game of 10 years ago kind of terrible. It's a mixed bag, really. A fantastically addictive mixed bag.

This is where I am as well in the main story. People say that after Chapter 3 it really starts picking up, so we will see... But I agree, RDR1 has a much more epic story. There was just a lot more going on.

What absolute nonsense!
-
Yeah F*** that.

Horrible camera panning/zoning while riding/moving
Dubya75 replied to Lucixir's topic in Red Dead Redemption 2
I agree, I absolutely hate the way the camera forces you into a perspective when interacting with an NPC. This must be the single dumbest design choice of this entire game. I really wish they would provide an option to turn that crap off. -
But you are wasting your time posting about it and wasting everyone else's time along with it. Kid.

How can I ride a horse properly without gasping or grunting?
Dubya75 replied to Graham's topic in Red Dead Redemption 2
If you are mashing X constantly, you are pushing your horse to its limits and yes, he is going to grunt. You don't have to be galloping at full speed all the time. Get up to speed, then simply hold down X and your horse will do it's normal gallop speed without slowing down. And he won't use up any stamina either. -
Here's a crazy idea.... Why not launch your game and see what happens?
-
Why does Arthur keep punching his damn horse???
Dubya75 replied to Jackthestripper's topic in Red Dead Redemption 2
You are clearly mashing the wrong controls. Nothing more to it. I've punched my horse ONCE and I know it was because I pressed the wrong button. -
Yeah I am very disappointed that Liar's Dice was removed. I absolutely loved it in RDR. Now we have card games and.....dominoes. DOMINOES! Seriously??? LOL

I love how physics have been applied to so many things in the game and for most part it seems to be working great, but the Euphoria Physics Engine leaves much to be desired in terms of cloth and hair physics simulation. When looking at things like wearing a Duster Coat or having long hair/beard, Euphoria's limitation become very apparent. Either that, or R* didn't implement it properly. Looking at a game like The Witcher 3 for comparison, that uses the Havok physics engine, the difference is night and day! A perfect example would be Geralt with long hair (no HairWorks) and wearing the Ursine armor at any level, but particularly level 1. Hair and cloth simulation is probably the best it's ever been. And that game is now 3 years old and was made on a much tighter budget than RDR2. Getting properly implemented physics is particularly important for a game like RDR2 where horses are center stage and where they aim for such a high level of realism. Getting the best possible hair physics (and rendering) is quite important, especially since horses play such an important role. But as it stands, I think the cloth and hair physics in RDR2 is sub-par at best. Very much last-gen quality. They could have used Havok and possibly gotten way better results across the board. I don't know why the Euphoria Physics engine is praised for being so incredible, when it really isn't. It's a shame because the physics limitations really stand out like a sore thumb in this game. It would have benefited greatly from a better physics engine.

This (R* tech support) is a JOKE! The developers responsible for PS4 Pro checkerboard rendering and fake HDR implementation knew exactly what they were doing. When they tested this, they would have gotten EXACTLY the same result we are now complaining about. It is not as if they are somehow unaware. They know! So showing them the issue is pointless. They just need to FIX this mess!
-
Guys, don't bother contacting Rockstar's tech support. They are utterly useless. And neither can they be expected to offer any solutions. The OnLY way to make Rockstar pay attention to this is to make a noise about it on twitter, reddit, facebook....everywhere you can.
-
Yes, I think I've had quite enough of R* not acknowledging anything, so I will report this to Trading Standards in the UK. R* tried to make fools of us all advertising a product to have HDR only to give us fake HDR and thinking we would somehow not notice? I hope a lot of people report this to Trading Standards.

Why HDR implementation is such a big thing?
Dubya75 replied to JohnConnor's topic in Red Dead Redemption 2
HDR is a massive deal. And even if it wasn't, Rockstar sold us a game with the promise of HDR support. Technically, the game does not have any kind of HDR implementation whatsoever. This means that Rockstar LIED to consumers. That right there is a BIG DEAL! -
Yeah, this is amazing! You should have told them that without changing any settings on your console or TV, all your other PS4 games look amazing. It is NOT any console or TV settings that is the cause or solution to the problem. It is the GAME.
-
Very well said, friend! We were promised HDR and this game does not have HDR. Period. Also, I don't even believe that the 1080p checkerboard rendering is the best they could do for PS4 Pro. Look at games like Uncharted 4, Horizon Zero Dawn, God Of War.... all these games render infinitely better on PS4 Pro than RDR2 currently does. Why should we settle for this crappy rendering implementation? Maybe from an Indy studio without the resources to apply a proper solution, but this is ROCKSTAR we are talking about! The developer that dominates the industry!
