Begrudgingly completed the game with my 55X900E ps4 pro setup and have to agree with many of the posts here in that the post effects are detrimental to IQ at times and the aggressive TAA is an awful match with the 1920x2160p checkerboard upscale. Coupled with the shambolic HDR hack job and I feel like half the value of my experience has been cut away. Been playing hitman 2 of late and IOI's 1440p HDR presentation is a breath of fresh air from a FAR smaller team on a VASTLY lower budget.... What the hell R* how can you leave RDR2 like this  A MONTH AFTER TAKING MY MONEY!!! Sorry for the vitriol I just feel like R* left the 4k hdr crowd behind un-necessarily here.

not really sure how someone can play this online with the existing blur, depth of field issues. I mean it's sometimes really difficult borderline impossible to see the enemies in the distance. How it is gonna play out is beyond me. I guess we shall see.

on a  different note, if this was UBISOFT or EA, imagine the amount of poop they would have gotten from public and media but R* are somehow getting away with it.

talk about enchantment.

Totally agree..if there is no mention of a patch for the blur..I think a petition could be made at this stage.

Sorry to disappoint guys, but I saw some topics about HDR for example and the new patch doesn't fix it for the XONE X:

For the PS4 (Pro) I don't know yet, but I doubt it to be honest.

The Pro team must have realy bad eyes or they just don’t care. It will be fixed i think, but it will be when they feel like it and NOT when we want it to be fixed.

Such a shame to leave game of the year in such a poor state!!!!

Some people do say the blur is better on the Pro, I'm not sure, I haven't updated yet:

Hi,

First, sorry for my bad english, I'm French.
I follow you from the beggining and I agree with you for the blur issue. I'm on ps4 Pro and I have a 4K TV (Sony KD49XF8505).

I also decide to stop the game at the beggining of the chapter 3 because that issue ruin my experience.

Today I saw an update and i was really happy to see it coming after a long time, but I think it's an update just for the multiplayer...

In 4K, with that update, the game seem as blurry as the beggining, maybe it's a little better for faces but the game still the same in general for graphics issue.

RDR 2 is a very very beautiful game it's sure, but for all this waiting I'm very disappointed...

I know it's a checkerboarding solution, and the resolution is 1920x2160, but I don't understand why they just don't reducing the resolution normally, like Battlefield 5, wich is in 1296p on 4K TV or Monitor.

BF5 looks less detailled and the work for ambiance is not as good as RDR 2 it's sure, but BF5 is so so much sharper !!!

If you want Screenshot I can send you for that update.

Some of you are hilarious with the massive hyperbole regarding this. It's over! The game is junk! Unplayable!

Give me a break.

As for this patch, it seems to have made the softness a bit better in some areas while other areas don't seem to be changed. I do not believe it is placebo and feel if Digital Foundry tests it that they will see it has improved a bit. The main difference seems to be in close to medium foliage and objects as there seems to be more detail and depth. If it's not a ps4 pro change then maybe it is some overall graphical change...maybe they tweaked the DoF in the game. All I know is there is more depth and separation between Arthur and the world and between things like separate trees and it looks better than it did last night when I was playing.

As for blur while moving the camera, that seems to mainly be the game running at 30fps and Rockstar throwing in default motion blur....it's probably mainly the game running at 30fps.

While I don't doubt it can be tweaked a bit more, some of you seem to think Rockstar should be able to create magic with how this game should look on the PS4 Pro and acting like it should be equivalent to how a top of the line gpu could make it look. Comparing it to how other games that have far less foliage and detail is silly because it's obviously going to be easier to make something be sharper with less objects to render. No other game comes anywhere close to this in terms of foliage and detail so something has to give with the nothing special hardware of the PS4 Pro.

I've seen some say the game looks better at 1080p and I don't agree with that at all. Yes, it did seem to be a bit sharper in spots but the draw distance is quite a bit worse (so many low quality textures used at a medium distance that makes it distracting until you get near them) and the jaggies are pretty bad. With the Pro version, the draw distance is much improved with higher quality textures at that medium to far distance. I'll take a bit of added softness over objects 60 feet away object being very low quality and standing out because of how low quality they are.

Updated the game to 1.03 on PS4 Pro. Blur issue is NOT fixed. HDR is NOT fixed.

Thanks bunches, R*.

The Online component of the game is out and this is all R* will focus on from now on.

Ruined my experience

Really?

Not seeing some rain ruined your experience?

I understand not being happy about it, but saying it ruined your experience...?

Try completely exiting the game. That fixes a lot of bugs.

As expected they seemed to have focused entirely on rolling online out. Guess we’ll have to either spam them to hell or just wait longer....

I would like to retract my initial statement there is some improvement it’s looking a lot cleaner but not perfect. It’s a start I suppose

for me the indoor blue appears to be gone but open world is still there

For me the  same, but i realize the taa is off. You can see that on the foliage. But now you relize much more the stupid motion blur filter. Depth of field looks a bit better in the distance, but the headache effect is in the game, no fix for the stoopid motion blur and infected checkerboard rendering. :(

Wow the detaillevel in cutscenes is now really impressive, Fake HDR is not fixed. I don´t know it is a placebo but it looks mor colourful to me, but not like real hdr.

Edit:

Hey Ross101 can you post some pictures? I will look on weekend for posting new video for comparison, but is definitely a bit better, I´m sure

Edit: wait again. horseriding is unplayable for me.

I hope one day they put a motion blur turn off button in the game. It is the stupid motion blur, that kills the experience for me. Witcher 3 has real agressive motion blur too, but you can turn it off. :(

I played half an hour to see if I noticed any change. I played on a full hd tv and saw no difference. Playing with the suplersampling enabled is still much worse than playing with it disabled. The blur and aggressive motion blur continue there. In my opinion, nothing has changed!

only indoor looks better. It must have something to do with the day night cicle. I started the game on the evening and it looks clearer as on midday at lunchtime. Ok, now I´msure it is cancer for our eyes. I have not play the game since a week. I start it again and the pressure on my eyes is back. It kills my eyeballs. I´m using glasses.

I'll definitely only come back to play when they launch a patch with options to turn off all those horrible filters. But I no longer believe in a fix!

Almost 100,000 views... a month later... not even a confirmation that they really acknowledge the problem.

wish they would just say that it can’t be fixed so I could stop checking this thread every single day....
