Can't quite put my finger on it but it looks like lighting is simplified which may give the impression of a clearer image. PH4NTOM4 Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 (edited) I actually played the game both before and after the patch (single player) and can safely say that the blurriness and more specifically faulty implementation of depth of field and focus HAS NOT BEEN addressed in this patch. Playing in 4k SS on a 1080p tv the picture is still blurry. playing 1080p on a 1080p tv the image is sharper but the motion blur depth of field issues are still there. There is no 30 % or 40% improvement. It is either fixed or not fixed. and in this case IT IS DEFINITLEY NOT FIXED. at this point I am fairly certain that this is not going to be addressed by R* so we just have to make do with what we have. I can assure that there was a slight improvement in upscale technique. I have taken some SS in the same places with the same time of day and weather conditions before and after the update. But like I said, it was a slight improvement and most people might not even notice.

I found no fix to the blur that i believe is caused by depth of field effects. Interiors in Valentine are still blurry. Outside at night is still blurry. The sky day or night is still blurry. The fix for the blur is simple. Turning dof off will remove the out of focus depth of field blur. I will never ever never ever understand why some game makers use dof effects. An option to turn off dof should be in the setting of RDR2 like there is with GTA5 on current gen consoles. An off option for camera motion blur is also needed for RDR2. 2

MrJosey Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 My experience before the patch was that I couldn't handle the blur from the 2160p output, so I set my PS4 Pro to 1080p. I was using HDR on. My experience after the patch, is that the blur is improved, though not fully fixed. I've posted some ingame screen shots. It's hard to compare, especially because the 1080p scenes have dynamic fog, where the 2160p scenes are clear and bright. Anyway, take a look. What do you think? 2160p from the PS4 Pro. HDR OFF. Sharpness on TV at 100. This is 1080p from the PS4 Pro. HDR off. Sharpness on TV at 80. Unfortunately, dynamic lighting brought in some fog so comparisons become more difficult, but you can still compare details on arthur:

I agree, the online version is definitely a visually simplified version of the game. The graphics are worse and there is way less people and animals roaming around. I also believe that the more simplistic lighting may result in the experience that the picture may be “crisper” but the cost of that is way too high.

I think Rockstar is busy with damage control, by not officially acknowledging HDR problems because there are some gullible players, who don't see nor care about any HDR problems/graphics problems. There are always people who don't know what is going on and don't have the capability to see it and thus are surprised that other observant people do see it and make (in there eyes) a fuss over it! That is a very sneaky way to cover up there own lack and/or ability and/or willingness to address the issues! As a saying goes: let sleeping dogs lie. The major reason is a cleaner image. Look at the PC you could not play a lot of games anymore without the shadertool Reshade, because of blurring postprocessing Antialiasing. Look at Ghost Recon Wildlands on the Pro this game uses a sharpening filter and a resolution of 1440p on the Pro. This is one of the cleanest looking games I´ve ever played. The mayor reason is for me a cleaner image. You can put more details in games that use a resolution of 1440p instead of more taxing checkerboard 4k. Better is to give us higher texture quality 4k or 3k images, this produce a lot better image as a 4k rsolution with lower texture quality. The texture quality in red dead redemption is´nt that high. I think it is a combination of 2k and 1k images. They can give the pro users a higher definition texture pack. You benefit on a 4k tv from this textures a lot more as from a 4k resolution. Textures must be created in 4k and than you can downgrade the texture to 2k, for midware PCs or the smaller consoles. But all Games would benefit from real 4k textures. On the PC we have the modding scene that shows us how real 4k Textures can look, not this upscaled 2k images that the developpers sell us as 4k Texturepack. This is no 4k. THe textures must be created as a 4k image. The most of the developpers going a wrong way with agressive postprocessing effects, bad postprocessing Antialiasing like TAA and lesser Texturequality to implement 4k resolutions. i have a cheap 4ktv and the upscaler is very good yes there is still a big diffrent between native 4k and 1440p upscaled through the tv the qaulity of both is excellent and either or looks better than coonsle games runiing in 1440p

There are always people who don't know what is going on and don't have the capability to see it and thus are surprised that other observant people do see it and make (in there eyes) a fuss over it! Until Rockstar makes an official sratement these standard responses mean nothing. It's not looking good which is bullsh*t because this is false advertising. Is there a way to force the game run at 1080p on ps4 pro on a 4k tv? by setting ps4 pro resolution to 1080p?? Rockstars, i am really disappointed , I won't buy game from you anymore. 2

I'd like to know why none of the well known magazines and gaming sites don't ever really take game companies like Rockstar to task. You know, like make an actual big deal about it and call it for what it is: False Advertising! A few reported on it (briefly) but they are supposed to be independant, yet there is too much of a simbiotic relationship there. They are pathetic and this "don't bite the hand that feeds you" attitude has already corrupted many Youtubers. I'm just so sick of the lies of this industry. They build the hype of these mid gen 4k/hdr consoles, which many of us bought. We also bought expensive Tvs, then they put "hdr" on the game box, and straight up fake it. Sony and Microsoft should be enforcing some quality control, as they have the power to do so, but they don't. On the Xbox Ones Reviews sections, games like Fallout 76, Soul Calibur 6 (network doesnt work. You cant even play online!), fallout 4 (4k update destroyed the fps; bethesda wont fix it), there are NUMEROUS reviews begging for MS to do something. Thats not to mention various graphical downgrades, lootboxes in games, etc that they've done jack sh*t to try to make their ecosystem better. It's just gotten really bad. 1

Playing either in first person camera or 3rd person while constantly aiming a handgun removes the dof blur. This fix is easy to reproduce in interiors day or night. Outside at night is also effected by dof. With Morgan standing in an interior switch between 1st person and 3rd person. Now switch between aiming and not aiming while in 3rd and 1st person views. 1st person remains sharp if aiming or not aiming while 3r person is only sharp when aiming. See how it goes between blurry and not blurry? That's depth of field effects. Dof? We don't need/ want no stinking dof.

MasterMarston Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 (edited) Guys, I posted about here awhile back about getting in contact with the Games Radar editor Dan Dawkins about this issue, but no one even acknowledged my post. As I stated, he was one of the only journalists in the world (if not the only one) to see GTA5 while it was being worked upon, and he had a sit down with the then employed Leslie Benzies (Creative Director) of GTA5. It would be worth it if we all contacted him about the issue,whats the worst that could happen, or we could all just sit around complaining about R* support which is doing nothing at all.
