Kean, that wasn't my intention to talk over others! I am sorry!😟

No worries.

While I understand the frustrations some have with various aspects of the game, some of the drum-beating gets a little repetitive after a while and I just had a moment when I posted that.

The new update for HDR doesn't really work, it is sort of a workaround for some issues but not all! Still not truely fixed, even though Rockstar acts like it is and many of the sites! Here you can read all about it: the-red-dead-redemption-2-hdr-fix-is-here-but-it-doesnt-really-work

It still seems to look blurry and a mess! So don't get fails hopes with the latest PS4 Pro patch!

Now on the Xbox One X version, it seems to improve quiet a lot with the new HDR implimentation, but that is because of True 4K! But this topic isn't about the Xbox version, but all I am saying is this is truly a Sony curse!👎

Try to make true HDR Sony, Just try!

(I just joined here to reply to this and an earlier, rather lengthy rant of yours. I infinitely apologize if I'm in violation of forum rules.)

I'm really confused about how you find Sony responsible for the choices Rockstar made regarding HDR and Checkerboard Rendering. The Cinematic implementation where they upscaled from an 8-bit SDR palette with the horrible paper white and peak brightness issues affected all versions, from base Xbox One to the One X. And HDR has nothing to do with rendering resolution or raw graphical compute capabilities (Sure it improves an image in terms of lighting, contrast and colour….but it's an entirely different pipeline with no (or at worst negligible) additional compute expense from CPU/GPU).

The lacklustre implementation of Checkerboard rendering is also (to the best of my knowledge on this subject) more Rockstar's fault than Sony's. There are many other examples of checkerboard implementation that hold up against native resolution ('hold up' , not necessarily equal/improve over. But that changes with the game in question, which again shows how Rockstar is responsible.)

To conclude...even in the best case scenario that Rockstar bothers to fix their Reconstruction solution [to be on par with something like that in Days Gone, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn or Resident Evil 2 remake (where it somehow appears sharper than One X despite using Checkerboarding) ] it will still in some way be inferior to the One X. I do not intend to sugarcoat the facts with this post. What the One X achieves with raw horsepower is truly on a league of it's own. I just want to say that this problem might not be with the Pro not having enough power (It clearly has the capability to render Checkerboard frames [1920*2160] at a 90% stable 30 fps, at the end of the day it's just the actual resolving of the Checkerboard that causes the problem, an easy fix...at least on paper) or with Sony trying to deceive customers (I don't really have any knowledge to argue for/against that point, because that's just hypothesis).

Also, I do not wish to have a feud with you and am open to further discussions on anything I said in this post, should you or anyone choose to reply to this. I play Read Dead Redemption 2 on the Pro (on a Sony X75E if that matters) and am bothered by the temporal instability of the image just as much as anyone else (the game still looks gorgeous, all things considered) and I fully relate with and understand you and others being vocal on this topic. The PS4 Pro support truly is a let down, considering the impressive technological showcase the game is.

Again, not strictly implying that your comments are "wrong" is any manner, just that you might be ('might', always the possibility that anything or everything I just wrote is wrong and pointless) angry at the wrong party here.

Hope this does not come across as offensive to anyone in this thread. I do not intend it to be so.

I agree with your statement and i should have said Rockstar instead of Sony! That is a typo and my bad.😕

Sorry for the misunderstanding! And welcome to the forum and your very tactful way of telling me. 😉

Signed up to post my fix.  Buy an One X.

I have been following this thread since release and finally beat the game last week.  After a ton of google, messing with tv settings etc.  As we all know no matter what you do it looks like ass on a PS4 Pro.

Before I dumped much more time and money into online (was only R17) I went ahead and purchased a One X and the ultimate edition.  Again.

Shame on Rockstar for not fixing the checker boarding.  God of War, Days Gone, gorgeous games.   RDR2 not so much on the Pro.

Shame on me for buying it twice but seeing is believing and if you really want to play a bunch of RDR2 or online and don't mind spending the money the X is certainly worth it.

Bonus Round:  RDR1 is upscaled for 4k with better AA and you don't have to stream it like PS Now.  It runs amazing.  I had never beat it over the years so I'm playing it now that I got through the epilogue.

Yes I teared up.

Hardly what I would consider a fix because frankly, it isn't.  ......but glad you found your own solution through the purchase of a different console.

...and welcome to the forums by the way.  :)

I agree.  Not a fix at all.  I love the game a bit too much obviously!  I've just given up on Rockstar fixing it.  Thanks for the welcome.  Long time lurker first time poster haha.

Yeah I have given up too! TBH given how close we are now, I will prob pick this up for another go on ps5/Scarlett next year :) Its a massive shame as I feel just dropping the overall pixel density (but increasing horizontal rez) would be a noticeable improvement on the IQ (drop from 1920x2160 to 2560x1440p). Still feel like the sony '4k hdr' marketing was a huge consumer fail(i know hdr is 'fixed' but 4k output on ps4 pro is still shocking compared to other efforts).

Well.........................for me it has been an (expensive) work around because I bought a XB1X (Gold rush edition) and I already bought the Special Edition of RDR2 and I also bought the special Club3D HDMI 2.1  cable (2 meter) and I already had a Afterglow Prismatic Xbox One cable controller (with led colors). And so RDR2 runs silky smooth and without any delay/latency and crystal clear on my LG 49SJ810V (49 inch) LED 4K screen! Very impressive game and I have to get use to some things as a RDR1 vivid gamer!

This personal information (I just gave), has nothing to do with the topic, I know! But buying a PS5 at the end of 2020, for the final fix of Rockstar for Sony's mess (because it wants to get more profit), isn't something we should consider doing anymore!👎

I came here to express my disgust with how Sony has treated me about my request for a refund due to this problem.

There is no way to justify their actions.  The game looks AWFUL.   Just opening up God of War, The Last of Us or any other big production game and comparing it to this one will make you sick.

Sony not only denies this problem, they also cut my chat request abruptly without further explanation.   Rockstar should be ASHAMED of themselves. Sony should be ASHAMED of themselves for doing this.

I was an avid Sony defender of their exclusives.  I am now prepared to leave the console for good.  No reason to still advocating for a bunch of companies that does not care one bit if I feel frustrated by how they handle things.

They are deceiving their customers by posting FALSE SCREENSHOTS of how the game looks and once you open it and find out how BAD it is,  they say they can't refund, because you already downloaded the game.

No other company has such a restrictive refund policy.  I'm sick of Sony, they are a bunch of greedy bastards.  I will probably never buy this game on other platform.

Just an fyi....

RDR2.org is in no way affiliated with Sony, R* or 2K.  This is an RDR2 / RDO fan forum.

Sorry you were not satisfied with the game but other than simply venting, it won't do much good to post here complaining about R* & Sony if your intention is to get their attention.

If you want to provide feedback to R*, I would suggest submitting it through the following website here:

https://www.rockstargames.com/reddeadonline/feedback?redirect_lang=en_us

That is the only direct link I know of to communicate with them.

That link will get me nowhere. This is not the first time Sony do deceptive stunts to their customers. Nevertheless.  Both Sony & Rockstar are responsible for this mess. They both know that game representation is godawful and they are both doing nothing to fix it.   I'm equally frustrated with both of them.

There... my feedback was sent to nowhere.  Hope in some years we all remember how bad this game was implemented and that nobody did a thing to fix it.

......and  posting it here will get you somewhere with Sony / R*?  That was my point.

That particular link was to R* where they do review the feedback especially if it is submitted through Support.  I wasn't making any guarantees you would get the response you wished for however or a refund, etc.

Sorry you're frustrated but there isn't much any of us can do especially if you've already given up on the game.   ....which in that case it's really just a moot point.   So, I'm guessing you're just venting which is fine.

Okay, hey guys! Since the game is still looking poorly imagewise on the pro on 4k-Displays (at least it does for me, I've contacted R*games and received an answer. Maybe it brings you some hope:)

Since there has been, and still is, a lot of comotion surrounding the very blurred image quality of the pro-version of the game due to the pretty poorly implemented checkerboard-technique, I was just wondering if Rockstargames as a publisher, who I like to believe does care about their customers, have acknowleged the problem and if so, what the plan for the forseen future might be? A Patch maybe?Take this thread as a reference: https://www.rdr2.org/forums/topic/1170-rdr2-graphics-blurry-ps4-pro/page/1/

Hello, thank you for contacting Rockstar Support. My name is Gavin, I understand that you are experiencing the issue in the game, is this correct?

AlterKaeseKuchen:[7/31/19 5:12:47 PM]

That's correct, yes!

AlterKaeseKuchen:[7/31/19 5:15:13 PM]

Have you got that kind of complain from numerous users?

Agent:[7/31/19 5:15:19 PM]

Okay, I can help with that! So, yes, we are aware of the this issue and it has been brought up previously. It is something we have been looking into for a bit now and I do believe a fix is coming, I just unfortunately don't have too much information past that.

AlterKaeseKuchen:[7/31/19 5:17:17 PM]

Well, that's some good news at last! I'm just kinda disappointed because it's been nearly a year since release and the fact that the resolution is handeld so poorly on ps4-pro just takes the fun out of playing to be honest

Agent:[7/31/19 5:19:45 PM]

Trust me I completely understand, I'm in the same boat you are, unfortunately we are just technical support and our reach on issues like this one is fairly limited. Although like I said it is something that has been brought up a lot previously and we are looking into it.

Well that’s good news, but realy late as many of us have played the hell out of this game accepting it the state it was in.

But on the bright side this masterpiece deserve it. And i will 4 sure replay it when and if the bad resolution get’s fixed.

You know, it sounds to me that they are already (very sneaky and deceiving) paving the way for the PS5 version of the game! I don't believe or expect them to fix the game for the current gen Playstation, since they didn't bother to do so in the last year! Since it is already been an year now and they didn't act on the knowledge they knew and heard from the start of the release of the game from us customers, I don't expect they will now! They didn't have any benefit to do so, nor do they now since the real issue is the lack of power of the PS4 Pro! That is what caused this disaster of the upscale 4k madness!

With a little more then a year of time until the new gen console arrive, they will probably make some remark or notification to you that you will be able to play RDR2 on the PS5 and that all the graphics problems will be gone! They want to sell more to you, not less so this RDR2 problem they will exploit, to sell you there new console, since the PS5 is fully capable of running the game natively and with good framerate and that will eliminate all there up scaling mistakes!

I tried to be realistic about this and that is why I would not get your false hopes for the PS4 Pro, since the real issues comes from the lack of power of the Sony console too run native 4K!  Since Sony  advertised the game as being "4K", they had to do something and that backfired in a major way! If the Sony console could have run the game like the Xbox One X does, which is without any issues and native 4K, then they would not have had there upscaling problems in the first place! So in the end I think it will come down to a new console/purchase for Sony fanboys, if they really want to experience the game like Xbox users do!

I am very happy I bought myself an Xbox and now enjoy the game as it should be, which is native 4K without any "customer deceiving" upscaling tricks that backfired with graphics blur! In fact they made it worse with each patch, which is totally unforgetable! No, trust me they are working on the PS5 version of the game, not the "soon to be obsolete" PS4 Pro!

Which is the same as if you buy an car with lack of engine power and you complain to them and they don't officially acknowledge it and come up with terrible workarounds and excuses! Then after an year they say they are now aware of problem (since they already where since the beginning) and come with there "solution", which comes down to "buy yourself the new model car". Since it is stronger and you won't have the issues anymore the old model had! Just think about it!
