Encounter spoiler: Nite folk

Spoiler

I had just finished finding Black Belles hideout and was heading back towards Rhodes, I found a body hanging from a tree and decided to check it out. I stopped on the side of the muddy road in a bayou and was looking at the body,  I then noticed a red blip appear on the mini map.  I turn around and this ghoulish looking person is walking slowly towards me holding a knife. The person is covered in mud from head to toe and only has pants on.  I thought it was a zombie for a second and maybe an Easter egg from the undead nightmare DLC from the first redemption .  Then 2 more of these people appear from behind me!  I dispatch all 3 off them and then decide to shoot the hanging body down.  On the body was a note that was talking about how the guy knew the “nite folk” were going to get him eventually.

Is this just one random occurrence and have other people experienced this? I hope there is more to this story!  It was actually creepy and I wanted to get out of the bayou before dark...

Has anyone else encountered this?  If not I’m going to explore this area further tonight.

Well...  Found out the location that i think is tied  to the nite folk and then had a second random encounter.

Spoiler

The woman was a random encounter and was a decoy.  Then then men came out of the mud.  This makes me think it’s some southern bayou voodoo stuff.

@Zmc1899, @cabbage454 - your posts both contain spoilers. I have applied the spoiler filter, as requested here:

https://www.rdr2.org/forums/topic/1098-spoilers-please-read-this-before-playing-the-game/

This is a verbal warning. Please DO NOT post spoilers to the game without using the filter.

Also, @Zmc1899 - I merged your double-post into one. If you have another comment to say and your post is still the most recent in a thread, please EDIT the last post to include the new comment. Please do NOT post immediately under one of your previous posts.

Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!

The game is full of these side quests (which are AWESOME)

Two I've stumbled across:

Spoiler

Northwest of Annesburg, there's a Viking burial mound which has a SWEET Viking Axe and Helmet in it.  I found it during a random encounter with a naked man running from a wolf (I killed the wolf but the guy ran off).  The burial mound is hidden in the ground a bit, but I noticed it because the moon hit it just right.  After I looted it and was leaving, a carriage driven by two dudes with a screaming woman and bodies in the back came by.  I don't remember the name of the side quest, but it's basically a Hillbilly Cannibal family.  I've killed 2, and I can't wait to get them all!

And

Spoiler

When riding into Valentine from camp, there's a small bridge over a little gully.  Underneath is a dead man that's been disemboweled, and left hanging.  There's graffiti on the rocks that says "Look upon my works".  If you examine the pillars holding up the bridge, one of them has a head tacked up and with a rolled up  note sticking out.  Taking the note starts you on a quest which I imagine involves some sort of serial killer (I'm avoiding spoilers about the quests where I can).

I love these side quests.  Sure they get me off task from whatever I'm working on, but they're so great--and now I have some sick gear from the first spoiler that I use all the time.
