never had this issue myself.  Anytime gunfire starts all the dogs run away, same with horses, cattle, animals, etc.

the only dogs that don't are the bounty hunter dogs when you hit the top bounty

ok literally not during gunfights but I do pet every dog I see.

I keep wondering if some point for RDR2O we don't have the option for a companion dog, similar to a horse, that just follows us around.

Can you imagine hunting with a dog, and having it fetch the small game and bring it to you?  Or pointing out animals that you're actively tracking?

that would sell it for me.  I hate losing animals in knee deep water cause i can't get them in time.
