Merriwx
This is annoying. People don't show up, some do, you go grey to white....Where can I get solid complete information on how radar works? Kean_1
If you crouch, you're icon will show as grey which means no one can see you. Also, I suspect some are using the respawn feature to get out of firefights. I've spent a while examining other player's behavior on the main map. Sometimes the players disappear only to show up a bit of a distance away. .....sometimes they disappear but show up relatively close to where they were. Other times the icons seem to jump around a bit in close proximity which I can only guess is lag. On the minimap though, if a player disappears, it could be that they have crouched to avoid detection or respawned. I have a feeling some trolls may be doing that to get around their victim and to try and gain an edge. If you start running when crouching, you will be seen again. If you skin and animal, look at the catalogue, etc., you're detectable. You have to walk while crouched to get around anywhere and remain undetected.
watery buffalo
The crouching feature is fine by me. I remember it from my Halo days. I do think that something should be done though for hunters. Like if you are just minding your own and hunting, you should be able to use something to cover your tracks easier so other players can just run up and gut you. KRooKeD KRoW
So been trying to figure it out for certain in free roam. I usually only spend any real time in free roam with friends, in which case I'm too busy to do any checking like this. But I finally confirmed that for free roam at least, players are off your radar if they're too far away. If they get close enough, they'll appear as a faded pink blip, and once they're almost upon you, they'll be a bright pink blip. This all is only with the blips that appear at the edge of the radar. Kean already covered the map and people within your radar's range pretty well.
KENNETHEONLYKING
Sprinting or shooting your gun gives away position (pop up on radar) to everyone, I think. While jogging keeps you off radar to those whom don’t have a direct line of sight to your position and are within close enough proximity of you. Crouching possibly resets radar/makes it harder for line of sight to take effect? I don’t know for sure, but I’d like to get into a game with a friend and test all of this out for myself. Or maybe a game moderator could hop on this thread and give us some legitimate information....

The problem is that R* doesn't really provide this information in one place if at all.
