Constantly being ambushed

Ok, again, i am new to online rdr2, but is there anything i can do to stop certain advanced players from constantly ambushing me and taking me out? I’m minding my own business roaming when i keep getting shot and having to respawn while in the middle of doing something. This is a pain in the ass!

Turn on Defensive Mode. Players can’t auto lock on to you. Plus it also gives you more health, so players can’t kill you right away.
 

You can expand your radar a bit. Hold Down on the D-Pad, (Xbox) press X to Expand.
This allows me to see the blue dot on my mini map a few seconds sooner, if someone is running at me.
