True story: my father is a HUGE fan of westerns. His streaming queue is full of them on all the services he uses. One night, my wife and I went out to dinner and he and my mom watched my kids. After the kids went to bed, he started watching BT. I got home halfway through the movie, and, knowing what was coming, advised my mother to stop watching. She ignored me, and you can imagine how that ended... Edit: I find the lack of Blazing Saddles on this thread disturbing.

Correct. I hate it when mechanics are involved that become part of the core game play or achievements. This goes back to Final Fantasy VII for me: If you wanted the best summon in the game (Knights of the Round), you had to go through ridiculous lengths racing and breeding freakin' Chocobos (think a Peep and an Ostritch doin the nasty) for HOURS, pray to RNGesus, and then acquire a special Golden Chocobo to walk on water to get to the esoteric part of the map that had the summon available. Weird mechanics like fishing for materials or ingredients that become part of the meta for gameplay, or have special items/consumables gatewayed behind them are terrible for ANY game. Perfect Roe became a necessity for Elder Scrolls Online, for example, but leveling your fishing skill to be able to catch some? I'd rather watch Battlefield Earth on loop for a week than go through that again. If they want to put fishing in the game, fine, but for the love of all that is good, do NOT tie it to an achievement or make it something that's required for progression.

Thoughts on dogs as online companions?
BropolloCreed79 replied to Qu3ster's topic in Red Dead Online
I'd actually expand on this idea and propose a myriad of options for a companion: dogs, doctors, harlots, pianomen, bartenders, farmers, or any other relevant role to the old West. Have each option grant passive bluffs and diverse skill sets (to compliment the different play styles), and really immerse the player. Have the decision made for companion selection matter. -
I love ya, @Cokeyskunk, but I have to vehemently disagree on this with you. Every time I've seen fishing worked into a game, other than a fishing simulator, it has sucked. Not that Rockstar couldn't pull it off (that's what she said), I just find it both impractical and repugnant. I'd rather have CLOWNS (FREAKING CLOWNS, everyone), in the game than a fishing mechanic. And I hate clowns more than I hate light beer.

Unpopular Opinion: campers are fine, and a worthy adversary within the context of PvP. I dont snipe myself, but rp'ing as, say, an Indian Scout, sneaking up on a sniper with some tomahawks.... my pants get tight just thinking about it.

Can anyone suggest a really descent mic/headset for the PS4?

Mrs. Creed appreciates the suggestion . Edit: her exact words were: "I DEFINITELY need that!" -

Because "bewbs". Honestly, though, it doesn't matter to most of us whether it's in here or not unless there's an underlying gameplay mechanic. The fact of the matter is, if you're looking for an immersive experience that is replicates real life, people DO fornicate, and more often than not, they are not wearing much when engaged in such activity. As far as mentioning "pixelated boobs", the phrase is so ridiculous that I had to work it into an equally ridiculous conversation. I am a filthy pervert, and you should never take anything I say at face value if I'm throwing around preposterous comparisons and metaphors. For those of us old enough to remember the days of set top cable boxes before the digital age, "pixelated boob" or "scrambled porn" pre-internet was about as good as it got apart from dirty magazines. Back in my day, you had to work for your porn, it wasn't ubiquitous like it is now, where I cant go more than three links deep in the Internet without coming across some truly weird "adult content" (no need to label what I'm talking about, but we all know). Hell, I bet you could get from Sesamie Street to ungated "adult" content in five clicks, just using page links. My point in all of this is, nudity and sex have been a part of life for as long as humanity has been "a thing". So has violence, and I find it hilarious that (as I said before) people are abhorred at the concept of "nudity" in a game but are fine with shooting people in the face. -

Honestly, it all depends on what you're looking to do. as far as your main objective, that's actually a setting in the PS4 system menu once you have a headset plugged in. You can toggle between chat, or chat and system sounds (i.e. gameplay). I paid $15 for a pair of cheap plastic over-ear headphones paried to a mic, but the bass and levels are all spot on--better than coming out of my soundbar, and it has the bonus of no ambient noise from the rest of the room/house. Just the game sound and party chat. As an added bonus, if you pump all the sound through the headset, the PS4 automatically cuts the audio feed to the television; sound only comes through the headphones, so you won't disturb anyone else. It's been a lifesaver for me during late night sessions on The Division when I don't want explosions waking up everyone else in the house. Given that you want others to hear both in game sound and party chat, what you may want to do is see if the PS4 has a setting for only the mic to be active too (I think it does, but I'm at work and unable to confirm). You'd then have a Mic, with all sound coming from your TV speakers, including chat audio. -

Because you're looking at it through the prism of unbalanced gameplay ala F13th. There are plenty of ways to balance something like this, such as having statistical caps on gear, or limiting player options for gear to the race--not bringing in outside gear. Perhaps have it set up with a budget where you can select certain horses, armor, or weapons within a fixed price range, gear up, and then participate. There are a lot of ways to balance the mechanics of something like this to put player ability first; faster horses have lower stamina; heavy armor decreases horse speed; faster horses create more inaccuracy if firing while moving... -
Lucky SoB. The work never stops here. Finish what you've got on your plate? Here's a big ol' pile o' fecal matter with your name on it. Heaven forbid someone else actually does their job!

Water was scarce in the old West, so hand stuff was more likely. Besides, nobody ever got the clap from a hando. -

The fact that you could kill off your competition by shooting them from horseback, or via other methods during the race. In fact, THAT's how I'd work in a BR mode while having a unique take on it. These won't be short sprints from town to town--each match should go, say 20-25 minutes with a full lobby, depending on the skill level of those involved. -

Death Race mode. Combat from horseback from point A to point B. Entry fees required, purse goes to the winner. -

I played those games for the articles. **could not** If I want to ride side-saddle with no pants on in the game, that's MY buisness. Make it a mini-game: a chance for a temporary stat boost as a result, but with the randomized chance to get chlamydia and slowly die unless you get some penicillin from the doc. I have to love how relationships and sex are taboo in a game with indiscriminate violence and killing. You can shoot someone in the face and watch geysers of blood wash all over the place, but show a pixelated boob, and everyone clutches their pearls. -

I carpet bombed the General section of the forum by necroing the oldest threads with timely responses. There was a LOT of hilarious stuff in the older posts, like JPop calling Miller the Plaintiff in the suit (false), and a lot of other inaccuracy or outright misrepresentation by Gun/Illfonic on a whole host of things. Ben didn't like me calling them out with proof, so all the threads were deleted as were my responses, and I was summarily temp-banned without warning or notice. It wouldn't bother me if I had been misrepresenting things or lying, but no, wait, that was them. Selectively censoring old posts just because it made them look bad, and then barring me for a week under false pretenses (Ben literally said it was only for spam posting, but I'm not an idiot) really pissed me off. They can have their echo chamber; I literally just go in there and take pot shots with the truth, that it anymore. I'll never get rid of it because when I have friends over, they all want to play it, but that community is in hospice at this point. They ban or censor any sort of dissent, and have their buddies on the content creation side come in and white knight for them (like the director of Never Hike Alone, or the puzzle game folks) while bending the rules for some users and crushing any opposition. It used to be fun. I never took it seriously until they decided to make an example of me. I told everyone in the forums that I "fell down some stairs" because it was funny while hinting at the gross nature of their actions. They can have it. I'm leaning in here. -
What kind of tv shows annoy you the most?
BropolloCreed79 replied to Jackthestripper's topic in Off-Topic
I already preordered it for launch day. I have an October birthday, and told my wife it was her gift to me, which is how we roll--everyone gets what they want, and no time is wasted. It's all coming out of the same pot of money anyways. -

If you believe that, would you be interested in purchasing a bag of magic beans? I just happen to have some available, but they won't last long! My little "timeout" on F13 was the first time I was reprimanded in 20 years of online forum participation across dozens of games. I think that little factoid speaks for itself. And at the same time, it makes perfect sense. Glad to be here! "Bro" and any of it's variants are fine. If I wanted formality, I wouldn't have used it as a modifier in my sn. And that's not "lazy", that's "efficient". -

BropolloCreed79 replied to Jackthestripper's topic in Off-Topic
If it's any consolation, most Americans dont even watch scripted TV shows anymore. It's mostly live tv: sports, reality shows, competitions, etc... Hell, my kids are under 10, and I face open rebellion every time commercials come on, as they are used to paid streaming services that are ad free. -
Where are you going to preorder?
BropolloCreed79 replied to ChrisCr0ss's topic in Red Dead Redemption 2
Agreed. I'm lucky enough live three blocks from a Gamestop in a fairly large city, so they'll be open at 12:01am for me to pick it up. -

BropolloCreed79 replied to ChrisCr0ss's topic in Red Dead Redemption 2
Because the margins are higher on digital download codes. There's no physical media for them to store in a warehouse, no shipping cost to them, and a decreased concern for piracy/resale. By locking out physical preorders in the short term, they effectively herd folks into purchasing the electronic download instead. -
I always thought that WoW had a nice take on this with "Rested XP" which basically acted like a passive boost to gained XP for an amount of time each day, based on how long you'd been logged out. A similar mechanic tied to "fatigue" such as increased difficulty with aiming, less "stamina" or whatever in-game mechanic is utilized, reduced return on the use of consumables, or a flat XP tax the longer you're logged in. None of these things is perfect, but separately (or together), they could add another layer to immersion.

I couldn't get the .gif link of Michael Scott to embed properly, so I went for simplicity.
