  1. To be fair, this is 1899 and the end of an era. Arthur has shown the option for a soft side by Chapter 3. Repeated dialogue shows he has reservations about the current outlaw/gunslinger life. Your interactions with Mary Linton are yours but they allow Arthur to be more compassionate. Nothing about his thus far paints him as a heartless cold-blooded killer. In fact, I find Arthur to be torn, though pragmatic about his situation. Especially following the Mary Linton mission. Heck, the gang has Charles and Lenny, so clearly they are a bit more progressive. In fact, racism in the West was not like it was in the East (both in the North and South). I have come across the eugenics guy in St. Denis, that was actually creepy as hell. However, I haven't yet come across missions that make me feel like that a SJW wrote the script. Ultimately, this is the end of an era, and it feels like it. The gunslinger is being run out or rounded up, society is spreading. I wound up in St. Denis for a short time thanks to a mission and I felt so out of place, and extremely uncomfortable. I left as soon as I could. Historically speaking, woman suffrage and even the prohibition movement gained steam during this period of American history.
  2. I've not had this issue exactly, but I've "lost" several horses. I've not bought one, personally. Why buy one right now when there are so many in the wild that can be tamed? It is tricky however, you must be careful when bonding with your new horse. First, it's advisable any time you acquire a new horse to keep your saddle on your main horse. When you transfer saddles to a horse, it becomes your "main horse" and the other a "temporary horse". I've noticed that "temporary horses" disappear easily, either through a bug/glitch or some sort of death. The safest bet, when acquiring a new horse or using two horses is to follow these steps: 1. Always saddle your best horse 2. Always ride the new horse, always. Instruct your main horse to follow. He/She will always be marked on the map and will respond to commands/whistles. 3. Take your newly acquired horse to a stable and stable it. 4. Ride your new horse into the stable, this will allow you to swap horses out.
  3. I'll have to use this! Speaking of which, when operating a coach/wagon, press and hold RB+A to go backwards. I've got my fair share of them stuck.
  4. Is your life a pile of charred and rusted iron laying at the bottom of a gorge? That may or may not be worth digging through the ashes for some serious loot?
  5. You essentially cannot run with any amount of speed through the woods. It's kinda like that in real life.
  6. I've got Granger and Midnights pistols but I have yet to come across the rolling block rifle. I did however, find a train wreck
  7. As horses are vital to the game, here are some things I've learned from controls to controlling the horse. Please add to if you have information. 1. you can toggle your horse from a slow walk (recommended in town) to a trot. Then to full a full sprint. Many of us already know to press A (for XB1) in time with your horses gallop to use less stamina. It looks like this: walk-->trot-->run-->full sprint 2. To go from running back down to a trot and to walking, press the RB button (XB1). This is especially handy as you are coming into town or accidentally start running in town. This has been the single most important part of handling my horse in the game. 3. When taming a new horse, ensure you stay with it at all times. Instruct your main horse to follow you and never leave the new horse behind. I have a tendency to find a new mount while hunting, and it comes in handy to have two horses (side note: each horse can carry 1 large animal like a deer/pronghorn, and 2 small animals such as a rabbit/duck). 2 horses are great when you are out hunting, but they are difficult to control. Your new horse will run off if you do not get your bonding level to 1 and you wander off from it (or it is scared off). 4. Wash your horse by running it through water or clean it using the brush. Clean horses are happy horses. 5. Feed your horse often to ensure it stays at a proper weight. If you are on a main story quest, it's a good thing to fortify your horses stamina; good chance you're going to need to make a heck of a break for it. 6. Upgraded tack items can provide small speed boosts. 7. DO NOT RIDE IN HEAVILY FORESTED AREAS QUICKLY. It's a good way to plant yourself and your trusty steed into a tree. 8. Careful going down steep slopes, your horse can and will slide down. 9. BUY A HORSE RESUSCITATION POTION. You're going to have a horse shot out from under you. If you survive, you'll want to rez the ol' sucker. Nothing worse than losing your fully bonded horse. 10. Horses no like big drops. 11. When you think you're going to be in a firefight, or you're unexpectedly jumped by rival gangs, sprint through the contact, find a place to put your four legged friend, and then take cover and return fire if you are going to fight. Personally, I recommend breaking contact and sprinting through ambushes. That said, DO NOT return to your camp. You've likely figured this out if you've been playing over the past week. This way, your horse doesn't turn into your cover and become a bullet cushion. 12. You can have 4 horses in the stable, and I've personally had 3 horses in camp. 13. Your horse will show up at your next stagecoach/train destination. Magic.
  8. Chapter two is where you'll be able to free roam. Though I guess you could ride off during Chapter 1, but I'd advise against it as you'd probably succumb to the cold weather as you know or possess very little to survive on. Chapter 2 begins with you at your camp, and from there you are able to explore but the missions in Chapter 2 unlock certain interactions and teach you how to do certain things. I'd say the game begins proper at Chapter 3.
  9. So you've just started to scratch the beginning of the game. Pretty much every review out there says the same thing, it takes a while for the game to really open up. Chapter 1 actually felt very epic and engrossing and was also pretty clearly a tutorial. Chapter 2 is pretty bland but it has a few exciting moments, but again, is more of a tutorial than anything else.
  10. I got the camera from the author asking me to take pics. Haven't given it much attention yet though. Between exploring and learning the game, I've got a lot on my plate.
  11. @Melting Snowflakes thanks for including that in a spoiler alert. I do appreciate that we are doing our best here to keep the game fresh for newer folks as they purchase it. I do hate to hear that last part, I hope you can manage to recover another! @Poggy There is no shame in discretion. I think you made a wise choice; I think you may be able to return better equipped for the task!
  12. Exit Pursued by A Bruised Ego mission, it's fairly early on and many of us should have completed it by now BUT in the name of playing it safe: THE RESPONSES TO THIS THREAD WILL LIKELY CONTAIN MILD SPOILERS TO THIS MISSION.
  13. I use it. It's amazing to get live movement on the map. Saves me a good deal of time and trouble trying to find out where I am. The ability to buy things right from the catalogue is pretty cool too! Saves you a trip to town, though it does break immersion. It's worth a download.
  14. From what I understand, it remains where you left it and will be represented on the map. However, if it does respawn somewhere, I believe it will respawn at any stable. Note: I have not done this myself, this is information gleaned from related posts of horse behavior.
  15. Given that we've had the game less than a week, but also keeping in mind that the game is incredibly deep; what has been your favorite moment thus far? Personally, I've had limited time with the game due to life BUT I took a moment to explore just around Horseshoe Overlook and I wound up hunting a turkey on Horseback with the bow. What started out as "what is that moving thing over there?" Turned into a "holy sh* that this is fast" and to "lets chase it on my horse". Finally managed to shoot it but went through several arrows that in retrospect, I probably shouldn't have.
  16. first gamertag I ever had was BoomBazookaJoe back in the system link days of Halo. After a small stint with another GT (and a break from gaming for a short while) I had forgot all my login information so I had to start from scratch when I bought a new XB1. So I updated it a bit to personalize it, BoomBazookaJD; my childhood nickname from my late grandfather.
  17. I've taken my time, explored camp first, then went out and hunted a bit just to get a sense of what was what. I'm taking the approach of going slowly, as if I really did plop down on Horseshoe Overlook for the first time. I found some tobacco plants, kill a turkey on horseback with my bow (that was actually a lot of fun). Then managed to track down a Pronghorn. I've also spent a bit of time practicing with my horse as well as bonding with it. I've already looked up "beginner tips". I think a quick google search will do one well.
