Rdr2 graphics blurry PS4 Pro

I would have bought an X Box One X, but the problem is it doesn't have any exclusives I want. I have a high-end gaming PC too, so 90% of the Xbox One's "exclusives" are also on PC and I own them there. 

Just hoping for a 4K checkerboard patch for the PS4 Pro at this point - but also really hoping we'll see Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC in a year or two where I can play it at 60 frames per second with all the graphic tinkering options of GTA V on PC.

I upgraded from the slim to the pro just for rdr2 but if I had known what problems rdr2 would have on the pro I had bought the x too

Yeah man i'd hold out for the PC version if i were you instead of buying a Xbox One X, its really not worth it for for one game and it is most likely going to come to PC in a year or so. Plenty of stuff releasing next year to play instead of RDR2 also. I would love for them to patch some visual options in and fix the upscaling in 4k mode but I just don't see that happening with Red Dead Online being the main focus for them right now.

I wouldn’t get an x for one game overall the pro is outstanding and has better exclusives every other game in 4K has looked outstanding red dead is the exception not the rule

I'd urge everyone to clarify with other posts that it IS an issue PS4 PRO users are facing, and not something necessarily all players on all other consoles are dealing with. I've seen some posts were either a player on a base PS4 denies that there's anything wrong with the picture quality, as well as people blaming the issue on tv settings. If we aren't sure to make clear where the problem lies, it'd take even longer to fix. Though, here's to hoping Rockstar has that figured out already.

     I've seen what the game looks like on a base playstation 4 console at 1080p on a regular tv because my younger brother plays RDR2 just behind where I have my setup. it is without a doubt an issue specific to the playstation 4 pro version (when comparing base PS4 & PS4PRO). This is, however, not an issue that is brought about specifically by the HDR. Although the colors do not look as great with the HDR active, (due to it not being true HDR) the game still looks blurry when HDR is turned off. I have read that the 4k on xbox one x looks fantastic, yet the HDR seems to be an issue across the board (again, apparently not true HDR).

     I'd like to thank all of you for taking the time to post on the forum, because a single post wouldn't have been enough. Here's to hoping over 30 pages does the trick. If anyone comes across any post confirming a fix on the issue. It'd be great to see it posted here as soon as possible. Thanks again guys.

Just to chime in and add to what you said.

There are TWO distinct and separate problems with RDR2 on PS4 Pro.

1 - 4K Checkerboard Rendering from a 1080p source is absolutely ridiculous. With an added, aggressive AA solution, resulting in a blurry image. It is absolutely NOT anything to do with TV settings. Because every other PS4 game looks BETTER than RDR2 on PS4 Pro. This is simply unacceptable from the highest profile game developer on the planet.

2 - HDR is fake. Not even just broken, but absolutely a FAKE implementation - this has been proven by measuring the color ranges in the supposedly "HDR" mode. But this is not only on Ps4 Pro. This is on every platform. And R* knows they implemented a FAKE HDR solution. It was no accident. And therefore they should not get a free pass because they LIED to their consumers.

Yes the same for me, i was in the middle of the game and just one moment i say to me "no, i can't paly any more with this situation".

I just bought a xbox X just to play RDR2 with full performance.

This is my current tv : SAMSUNG UE43NU7400 , 

RDR2 characters , depth and details of clothes look not only blurry but also without real basic detail on faces , clothes , game ,.....for a ps4 pro game .

The previous one was a LG Full HD .

God of war uses checkeboard as well and it looked great on the full HD tv without it ,

God of war looks amazing on my ps4 pro with the Samsung tv , just play god of war, use some of the abilities or walk in the snow or in a dark area, then play RDR2 , you will notice the difference ( see horizon zero dawn for the same reason ) .

compare this to RDR2 and you know R* messed up.

I am not a technician but if god of war and others can use checkerboard the way they did then R* should be able to do the same , 

They knew it before launch but had to get the deadline, on X box One X the 4K is great , therefore i believe all of the footage that is said to be ps4 pro was just taken from the X Box one X and launced as ps4 screens otherwise we would have seen it earlier . What bothers me the most is that they will launch the online feature first and a fix will probably not come within a few weeks when almost everyone finished the game and that review magazines and sites give 9'S and 10's for this game when it is obvious they blatantly lied to ps players and dont bother to release a statement otherwise then press L1 and R1 when you start the game . I'm not playing anymore till this get solved , if they dont solve it it will be the last game i bought from R* .

I´ve played now detroit become human another title. That is one of the best exclusives for the pro. Watching tv was yesterday. Wow. This game must play a lot of politicians and big bosses like the rockstar bosses. All people that are think we are pinochios or slaves that are making money and are not interested of all the other problems in the whole world. This game let you cry. It shows you what human being is and what human being you are. This is the poor reality that we have right now.

I like digtal foundry. It is one of my favourite channels on you tube. How I can talk with the guys. I´m a tech freak. It is my personal hobby.

Hey guys I´m a big fan of your channel. How I can talk privately with you about the problems of red dead redemption 2 on the ps4 pro. I mean the technical issues. Do you send a messsage to rockstar games? Is this the game that you have tested two month before. I think not. The blur destroys the game experience on the pro. I think it has nothing to do with the implemantation of checkerboard rendering. It is to much of motion blur in the game and to agressive taa. Sharpen slider is only in the 1080p mode. This is why the game looks so much better in 1080p.

I´ve really sensible eyes. I can play all other titles on the pro. No other majortitle release has that big graphical issues. We must start a petition. You guys can look at this thread. It is a major problem for all users on the ps4 pro. A lot of gamers bought a ps4 pro right now, with the bundle version of rdr2. What is sony thinking about this mistake? Is rockstar cashcowing us? I have Odyssey to, and it runs pretty well on the pro and looks ten times better on the pro.

Look at this forum guys, please. You can help this friendly community of rdr2 users on play station pro a lot. WE need some more advertising on this problem. We receive only answers from rockstar that the hdr is bugged but that is not the problem. Become solutions that does´nt have somethig to do with the issue. It is not a hardware issue. A lot of the users in this forum playing on 10 bit oled displays with premium hdr are cables and premium hardware. That is not our problem. All other titles running well and looking gorgeos.

Please help us and gave a statemement and give us some of your expert support. We need it.

Digital Foundry is using PS4 Pro footage of Dead Red Redemption 2

 

THe first title is 8 years old. You can see the big blur issues in the video on the pro version of dead red redemption 2

The more people involved with this issue, the better. Then Rockstar will be able to see this problem. Which I would be confused if they hadn't at this point.

Right. They have a platform they can use to better spread the problem.

Thing about all this is... Rockstar likely saw the differences between the pro and the base PS4 before the game was released. Unless they isolate each version of the game the difference is like night and day. And that's not to say that players would only be able to tell the game looks blurry when comparing, as it was my first and only complaint on the game without having yet glanced at the base PS4 version. It's upsetting to say, but you can definitely see that 1080p on the base playstation looks better than an upscaled 4k on the pro. My point here is one of two things. Either Rockstar didn't have enough time to fix it, or they didn't care enough to classify the blur as an issue.  Judging by their fake HDR, I'm leaning towards the latter option.

Oddly I set my output on the PS4 pro to 1080p and compared with the base PS4, noticing it still did not look as clean as the base PS4s 1080p. this is something someone else should give a try as to confirm. I did look over to a base PS4 version to compare the two in this case.  Could it be there is a setting on the PRO we can not change regardless of whether we output to 4k or 1080p?

They disconect the chat function. I mean digital foundry. I´m not the only one that wrote a big message to digital foundry. I´m installing now my one x. I receive it for one hour. I hate the gamepad of the XBox Click, Click Click. It looks cheap to me. The quality of the ps4 pro controller is much better.

I will write 4 Players and digital foundry again tomorrow. I´m really tired now of configuring and installing all the stuff on the box.
