Delayed Release of Online Component?

I came across this thread on Reddit and I think it raises a good point: The GTA Online portion of GTA V was delayed for several weeks after the game was launched and this gave everyone time to go through the story mode and enjoy that. It also meant that the people who would usually jump straight into Online and start grinding, gaining levels way beyond your average player, could do that from the start. Looking back I think it was actually a pretty cool approach (whether intentional or not). Of course having the freedom to choose is always nice, but in this case maybe the devs are doing us a favour by forcing us to play through the story mode first?

I was just reading that. I was trying to dig up any new information on the game and that lead me here the other day and I found that post a little while ago.

I loved that they did this with GTA and if they plan on having RDR2 have an amazing open world online map then it is wise to do it again. I even said to my friend the other day that I would rather they release the story in the fall and then do the online portion of it in 2018. I don't mind waiting. I don't want to get left behind. I play campaigns in games slow because I want to enjoy them and I usually don't even touch the online aspect of it (if said game has one) until I have finished the main story.

I wouldn't be surprised if Rockstar repeated what they did with Grand Theft Auto V and release the Online portion of Red Dead Redemption 2 after the games initial release but I don't think they'll wait until 2018.

Yeah I agree. If they are going to do it again, they will only delay the online mode by 2 weeks, maybe 4 tops. Assuming the game comes out in October/November, online play will be ready this year.
