Frame drop is common with the consoles because the game strains our systems CPU and graphics card device. Hopefully for the next generation of consoles, this issue will be resolved and we can hold a solid 60 frames per second.

If they trim out some of the extra stuff so our systems will run better, they have to take away somethings. There is just simply to many objects and things going on with heavy detail in which causes the frame rate to drop.

You don't say? :)

Same here. Played this game on my ps4 pro and after that i bought a brand new xbox one x because of fps drops (same drops, same places, same scenarios):  on lighting sources, day shadows in deep forests, city and all other places,  gunfight with explosions, or fire.. this is bad man, very bad.. my eyes hurts and feeling also. I'm sorry that this problem is somehow pushed out of the carpet. I hope there will be some solution in the patch. If anything, I'll be waiting for a PC version of a wide-spread hand, and that will be some other story in general.

Yeah and I contacted R* support, they claim my brand new console is broken and advise me to give it back on warranty hahahah. Cmon...

My friend, I thought it was up to my console, so I bought XBOX X. Your console is okay, trust me. They simply deny problems in ugly ways. Definitely no problem in our consoles. Many players have come up with the same problems.

Yeah thats what I said them. I tried it both on PS4 PRO and XBOX one X and both have lots and lots of fps drops. However XBOX wins, the game runs much better, in 4k and with highest res textures. However it still is not as smooth as it should be. I really hope they will patch it soon. For all the players of course but more importantly for the online release. At the moment I do not imagine how can anyone play such laggy/badly optimized game online.

I'm thinking the same way as your friend.

Hopefully Rockstar will start shooting us with updates that fix all the problems we have been experiencing so they can gear up and launch online.

As much as i want performance fixed i doubt they will improve much more. Game is running native 4k on Xbox one X. No way it can be stable 100%. However , i wouldnt mind dynamic resolution. That would be a great solution. Still , doubt they will do it, not that many players are sensitive to small drops and stutterings... Sadly i am.

Im on Xbox one X.  I have the disk, and no stuttering or dropping fps problems at all. Im using a premium (another name for high speed?)  HDMI cable instead of the one that came with the xbox. Someone else has already stated to try that. TV is TCL 5 series with game mode turned on. Dont know if any of this helps...just throwing it out there.

this is what im using

Hello guys!

I tried everything.(changed the hdmi cable, turned off true motion, not using "game mode") but nothing happens. It's the same choppy sh**. Does anyone have any answer about that problem. It's really annoying. I am glad that i see that i am not alone.

I own a PS4, a PS4-PRO and an XboxX. And the game certainly looks best on the X, no competition there. But the overall game experience for me is best with the PRO and it is because of the frame rate. If I put my PRO so it displays at 1080p and no hdr, I get locked 30 fps even in Saint Denis. This is not possible even on the X but it is understandable as the X is displaying the game in a way better resolution.

So in the end one must choose if resolution or frame rate is most important, for me it is the frame rate as I am really sensitive to frame drops. Playing the game on the original PS4 is bad and as I have seen at a friends house playing on the XoneS, that one is even worse. I am no fanboy of any console as I mostly play games on my PC because I normally cannot stand 30 fps but some games make 30 fps better than others. RDR2 on the PRO, 1080p is in my opinion the way to go with this game but I understand if others have different opinions. Playing on the PRO at higher resolution will result in bad frame rates in some places and I would not recommend anyone to play the game that way.

I have to say that i've tried this with my ps4 pro (limiting to 1080p) And it did not help at all. There was completely no difference...

Ok... This may not need to be said but I will say it just in case, is the ventilation on your console(s) sufficent? At least on the PS4-PRO and on the PS4, rebuilding database will increase performance and it is something a lot of people just fail to do often enough.

Digital foundry have made videos how performance in RDR2 differs between the consoles and resolutions. They found just what I experienced, that 1080p on the PRO gives a locked 30 fps even in Saint Denis and the OneX close behind. And of course that the oneX is the most powerful console with the best image quality and only a few drops in fps. They also did compare the PS4-PRO vs itself on different resolutions and found exactly what I have said, maximum resolution results in less than 30 fps and 1080p results in a locked 30 fps.

One more thing, have you disabled supersampling? If not, then do that otherwise the stutter will still be there.

So in the case that you have done all that has been suggested and still has problems, then something is very wrong with your console.

Nah I dont think there is something wrong with my console as I checked the game in my cousins home (he also has PS4 PRO and 4k TV) and the performance was identical. Its just how the game runs on consoles and I think there is nothing we can do here. Only R* can fix frame pacing.

I will not argue with you on this one as you may be correct. I will just state that I have OCD literally when it comes to fps in games and I notice stutters and frame drops very easy. My PS4-PRO performs well in RDR2, in 1080p without had and supersampling that is. My own experiences has been more or less identical to the digitalfoundry video that I have linked to. And as I said before, I normally play on my PC and always with 60 fps or more. I could not stand GTAV on any console because there was noticeable frame rate drops even on the PS4-PRO with the boost activated so I ended up buying that game three times. So I have GTAV on PS3, PS4 and on PC and PC was really the only way it was fun to play. Can the frame drops you are experiencing be caused by the fact that you are playing on a tv that is 4K native? I have a 4K tv but I am playing on my bedroom tv that is a 47 inch 1080p tv... I will test further by moving my PS4-PRO to the living room and see if I lose frames even if I force a 1080p setting on my 4K tv.

I really do not feel that my experience in RDR2 is the same, neither on the oneX or the PS4-PRO set at 1080p. On my 1080p tv I am not experiencing any frame drops and my OneX is almost flawless on my 4K tv.

But as I said, only you can decide the experience you have on your systems and what you think about them. I do hope that whatever makes the frame rate not as good as it should be, will be solved for you so you can enjoy the game.

Thanks :) Well, I hope they fix it too. Too bad that I have almost finished the game. I learned to ignore the stuttering. It was really hard and cost me a lot of nerves but now I can enjoy the game. I am also like you playing on my PC mostly in 144 Hz, so not stable 30 fps with bad frame pacing was a REAL PAIN for me. Trust me. I even bought Xbox one X because I thought its gonna be butter smooth there. NOPE! :D It hurts even more when you compare RDR2 performance to Spider-Man for example. SM also runs in 30 fps but the gameplay is butter smooth. I think this all is caused by this frame pacing and I also cannot understand why R* didn't do it properly. Well... we have to wait 5 years when 60 fps is a standard.

I agree in full! Spider-Man really does not feel like a 30 fps game despite the really quick movement and such. Hopefully we will get a patch, but it is doubtful that Rockstar will fix the issues. I guess we both will enjoy RDR2 in 60 fps on PC in a few years. And I will be the sucker because I will have bought this game three times just like I did with GTAV... 😞

You are not alone, I bought it twice and a brand new console for it so I am even bigger sucker xD

Hello!

I've bought Xbox one X and Red read redemption 2 bundle the other day. I was watching ton of reviews and digital foundry videos. Everybody saying Xbox one X version is very stable, performance is so good and so on... However i experience stuttering or fps drops often.

Game is very smooth out in the wild with occasional stuttering , nothing annoying. But when in cities i get often stuttering and its so easy to notice, and i'm not even been to Saint Denis, i'm talking about smaller cities like Valentine and especially Strawberry (There i get a lot of stuttering). Also i noticed stuttering every time i'm looking at camp fire, also in some of the shops.

Do you think its my new Xbox one X? Do you guys have stuttering free experience? Hows in Strawberry city for you? (That area stuttering the most for me). Maybe its just me used to games that are very stable 30 fps? But according to reviews this should be a stable 30 fps game. And Digital foundry said that on Xbox one X games stutterers only 4 time the whole play through.

Thanks in advance!

You are saying we should buy ps4 and play rdr2 with it??

So I can only say again and again, the HDMI cable that you use makes the difference. Use a premium HDMI cable and you have no stuttering in valentine.

They're probably ignoring you because most people know "high quality" HDMI cables are usually a gimmick and have no real effect on framerates.  HDMI cable quality degradation usually results in signal loss or pixelation, not game performance.

The cable that comes with the X should be good enough.  And even if you weren't using a 2.0 cable, a 1.4 cable would also be enough for RDR2, since the game only runs at 4K/30.  HDMI 2.1 is also totally unnecessary.  Those cables are rated for 4K/120 and 8K.  No games run that high, other than brand new Nvidia RTX PC games.

So unless he's experiencing signal loss or pixelation, his cables are just fine.
