Red dead 2 stuttering or fps issues on Xbox one X

Hello!

I've bought Xbox one X and Red read redemption 2 bundle the other day. I was watching ton of reviews and digital foundry videos. Everybody saying Xbox one X version is very stable, performance is so good and so on... However i experience stuttering or fps drops often.

Game is very smooth out in the wild with occasional stuttering , nothing annoying. But when in cities i get often stuttering and its so easy to notice, and i'm not even been to Saint Denis, i'm talking about smaller cities like Valentine and especially Strawberry (There i get a lot of stuttering). Also i noticed stuttering every time i'm looking at camp fire, also in some of the shops.

Do you think its my new Xbox one X? Do you guys have stuttering free experience? Hows in Strawberry city for you? (That area stuttering the most for me). Maybe its just me used to games that are very stable 30 fps? But according to reviews this should be a stable 30 fps game. And Digital foundry said that on Xbox one X games stutterers only 4 time the whole play through.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry, I was just trying to express both my sympathy with your situation and worry that the problems plaguing the PS might also be found to some degree on the XBox, which I thought was immune.  I agree that is unhelpful.  I retract my post.  Apologies.

Game is stuttering on Pro too, since an hour of gaming. Big input lag too. Control is really smooth before the stuttering begins. With the stuttering issue textures are blurry in cutcenes from the environment exteriours and interiors. Char Models faces looking more flat without the detail textures.

I'm on an X, and it's almost always rock solid. I notice a few dropped frames when running around certain streets in Saint Denis, but not enough to be annoying really.

Maybe your machine is downloading game updates in the background or something?

Are you using true motion on your tv. Turn off that feature. Are you using a premium HDMI cable for your X? THe cable that is in the bundle is not a premium cable. You need a cable with a high bandwith for native 4k.  This is oine of the best HDMI cable.

Here is the link:

End if you have a OLED or Nanocell I prefer this cable. This cable has a highspeed bandwidth of 48 GB. Nearly no input lag guaranted. :)

Thanks you for helping me!

I dont use the true motion. Also Red dead redemption wasnt inside Xbox one X package. So im pretty sure i got the right hdmi 2.0 4k with console.

Can any of you guys with Xbox one X run around in Strawberry and check if it stutters? Strawberry town is the area that stutters most for me. Maybe im just used to in not getting any stutters in games...

I won't be back in the game until this evening, but if it helps, I'll run around Strawberry this evening and let you know if I notice anything. I did have a big gunfight there earlier and didn't notice a problem, but I'll try to keep a more critical eye.

Sure, no problem. Any particular sections of town or activities you want me to check out? I don't know the area all that well, so be as specific as you can.

Just run around the city, around general store. Its not that big city. If fps drops are common there you will notice it easy.

Reporting back from Strawberry:

I've had no issues. I ran around for a long time in various places, tried carrying a lantern at night for more lighting and shadow calculations, tried getting into a massive gunfight, jumped on buildings, swam in the stream... nothing really seemed to cause any problem. Like I said earlier, I did see some very minor slowdown in Saint Denis, but nothing in Strawberry.

Alright. I tried Strawberry once again and i can say that its definetly stuttering for me. Im not sure if its frame pacing stuttering or fps drop. And it only stutters in the morning, when many graphics effects are in play. What i did i tried on my friends xbox one x ( which is also new). Same stuttering there. I guess im used to locked 30fps whole the time, and dropping down to 29-28 is so noticeable to my eye.

Or could it be cause im playing from disc? Do you guys bought it on microsoft store?

Also i may give a try to that 2.1 hdmi.

Hi Cybetpunk

I am on a PS4 and have this exact same problem. Free roaming in the country side is perfect but as soon as I enter a built up area its like my ps is struggling to process all the data and looks really juddery. I've tried in HDR MODE ON AND OFF. Surround sound on and off. I know it's the game because i have a brand new OLED TV. In about to download the install to another external hard drive.... Will get back

But I'm using digital download too, and my built up areas are juddery

I've just moved my installation from external drive to the local PS system hard drive... No different unfortunately

I'm now going to backup all my saved and uninstall it completely

Then install it again from the PS store

Yes, but we we’re specifically comparing Xbox One X performances. PS isn’t getting as good frame rates in general, from what I understand

Oh really? Great 🙁 my PS4 standard is already obsolete lol

But anyway, for the record

I've completely uninstalled the game, restarted the PS and done a clean install of Red Dead and it's no different. Still jerky in Valentine

I also remotely played it on my phone and the tv in the other room over the network to eliminate my main game tv and its still struggling to process it all in built up areas

So I can only say again and again, the HDMI cable that you use makes the difference. Use a premium HDMI cable and you have no stuttering in valentine. Only for one or two seconds. Clean your PS4, because the heat that was produced by this game is really high. The cooling system of the ps4 is maxed out on this game in the cities or in overcast and rainy situations. The same for God of War in the Releasemonth

Edit use a cooling pad for the old ps4

Ok

1. Connected PS4 direct to tv

2. Changed resolution down to 720

3. Turned off HDR mode

4. Turned off trumotion on my TV

5. Streamed the game over network to phone and over tv

6. Re-installed game, moved installation from external drive to local

7. Cleared game cache

8. Disabled surround output down to stereo TV speakers

9... Come to the conclusion that the game is at fault, or the PS4 standard is not man enough to handle the game.

10... Contacted ROCKSTAR and they tell me its my TV even though I've got a £1,700 brand new OLED. Yeah right

Hi. Ive got the exact same problem. Firstly i played this game in my ps4 pro but when i saw how it performs I ran to the store and bought a brand new xbox one x. The game runs better and in native 4k of course but it still is not smooth. I have tried everything with my tv and xbox settings. I have slight stuttering almost all the time during day (when theres a lot of shadows and daylight). At night or during a storm the game is 100% smooth. My frames drop even more in valentine. in some buildings my frames drop to 20 fps, heavy stuttering. I am glad that im not alone here, because I also thought that my tv or new console is faulty. I doubt its the cable because in other xbox games that are also 30fps and 4k, the gameplay is 100% smooth (forza horizon 4 for example). I think the only solution is that R* patches the game because my eyes rally hurt me after a while. I have spoken with the support 5 times already and noone seemed to have an answer, so i really think its jus the game itself. I am really mad that so polished game was released this way and noone cared that it runs crappy on a frekin x box one x!!! Btw. I disabled DVR recording in my xbox and i think it helped a bit... you may try it.
