Spent all weekend hunting for this thing... Took FOREVER! Spent like 6 hours hunting that mother****ing panther, but I finally got that son of a bitch!

I spent more time hunting for this satchel than playing the story missions. I'm still in chapter 2, but I think this satchel will prove to be worth having as I progress.

TIPS:

Spoiler

After the first like 4 hours of not spotting it, I was starting to think the same thing. Then it jumped me from behind... As mad as I was, I was happy that I hadn't completely wasted all that time. Doesn't help that it can only spawn in 2 tiny sections of the map... Even with the guide, I had trouble finding it.

They programmed these animals surprisingly realistically. Keep in mind that you're hunting a predator that is also hunting you. You likely won't see it until it's already running at you (happened like 3 times). That's when I got patient. I found a good spot where I dropped some bait, hid behind a nearby rock and spotted it within a few minutes. I actually saw it long before it saw me.

More specific tip:

Spoiler

It spawns south east of Braithwaite Manor. There was a pile of bones near the crossroads where I noticed a random dead boar. Figured it was the panther's feeding grounds and dropped the bait there. The rock was just across the road. Watch on your left (directly west from that rock) using eagle eye and you should spot him. (this person marked it where the guide marks the map, I found it a little farther north)image.png.7607a51ebb34047aef34b757864e124e.png

Actually I'm a bit scared of losing the stuff I've got too.

Could anyone confirm one way or other (in a spoiler block, with no story spoilers if poss) whether you unavoidably end up perma-losing anything during the game at any point?

Spoiler

Given the heavy hints and obvious expectations in the story so far (I'm at end of chpt 4) I'm wondering if i should hold back on getting more unique items and stuff ... ???

Someone mentioned last week that your camp upgrades will reset, but I'm not sure if that was true.

Either way, someone had to be the guinea pig, right?

I didn't even think you could get the panther to appear until later chapters.

I may try killing another just to make sure that tip was worth giving, but that's how I finally got it. Hopefully it will save someone else 5+ hours of trial and error...

I completed the story (powered through it and only missed giving somebody at camp a harmonica) and the only thing that you lose

Spoiler

by design is whatever horse you are using during one of the last chapter 6 missions

.  Everything else I still have upon completing (except my bolt action rifle which got replaced with a worn version that I just can't get rid of cuz of some bug).

I must've gotten the materials for that satchel without realizing it, cuz I had it availalble after I finished the story.  OR a bug happened where it was available to me without the need for the mats.  Definitely worth the time to get it though.  Massive increase in capacity.

5 vs 99, I'll take 99 any day!

Well this eases my mind, but I'll remain nervous until I get past that lol

Regardless, it's nice that I'll never have to worry about having space. I can hunt for days and still have room for meat!

I shoot up a town and KNOW I'll enough enough space for their loot.

It would feel like a cheat code if it didn't take me all weekend to unlock...

But they're pretty pointless then, just added it in case it gets lost or whatever.

That's true. The satchel is probably only worth getting in the beginning of the game anyway.

Even if that is true, I enjoyed putting the work into it and exploring.
