JohnConnor
Please tell me what I am doing wrong ? I crafted small game arrows and I bought Vermine rifle. I want to do hunting challenge to collect 3 perfect rabbit pelts. I was doing it for hours and every time no matter what I do I get poor rabbit pelt. It also takes two arrows to kill little fuc**ers, so I do it on horseback, I do it on foot, I do it in stealth, I do in standing. I shoot arrows, shoot from the vermin rifle and every time it is POOR pelt. I whistle at them, shoot from up close, from far away, every TIME ! What is the deal with this? What is the trick. Do I need to progress with the story more, learn some new skill or something. I am in chapter 3. thanks guys. Willard
Hello. First of all you need to find 3star rabbit (all animals are quality 1-3) and kill him with 1 hit from varmint rifle - track him while crouching (it allows you to come pretty close to him), call on him, he will raise his head in your direction, then pop dead eye and shoot him in his head. Anyway I strongly recommend you to get legendary buck trinket which allows you to get better quality pelts/bodies while hunting. For example if you find 2star rabbit and you kill him you can get good quality pelt. But if you have legendary buck trinket you can get perfect quality pelt even from 2star rabbit. To get legendary buck trinket - just kill legendary buck, visit any fence ( at emerald ranch for instance) and craft that trinket. Sounds like I need this trinket thingy as I am really struggling to find 3* rabbit, Until nowI had not idea that living creatures in RDR2 have star quality rating before hunted down. Is there a place where chances of finding 3* rabbits are higher?

Thank you for saving me the effort of typing all that lol @JohnConnor it also helps if you "study" the animal first. I believe that's how you're able to start seeing the star quality while tracking. I just ride with my varmint rifle and take a shot at anything that moves. The auto aim is pretty good at hitting the right spot, and that trinket helps ensure you get a decent pelt.
