Holding up doctor in valentine

Does anyone else have issues with holding up the dr in valentine in order to be ale to enter the back room? I have been able to do it successfully once but all the other times when I have tried and it says hit r2 to draw weapon, I shoot him!! What are some ways I can hold this button and not do that?

Once you've seen the illegal business in the back room, just go into the doctors select a gun from the L1 menu and hold L2 to aim it at him. It will then give you the choice to rob the register or the back room.

Get ready to run though, because you'll have a load of bounty hunters on you as soon as you start shooting that place up. Grab the cash and the Scofield revolver and run.

Ok-so even tho it says but r2 on the screen I need to push l2 instead? I know that l2 is the aim button so that’s why I was confused when it showed to push r2

Straight next door to the sherriff's office and turn yourself in.  If you grab the revolver and the cash on the table, it'll easily pay off your bounty (which for me, is only about $10 if all I did was shoot the O'Driscoll gang members).  You profit considerably and have no wanted level afterwards.

How hard do you need to squeeze or hold down r2 when holding up the dr?

I literally just slam it down and hold it.  After he starts moving, I let go (while not aiming it at him, just to be sure), and the gun usually goes down without discharging.

I had something similar happen when I was trying to do one of the Bandit Challenges, of holding up 4 shopkeepers. I would keep, accidentally shooting them! You can pull out your gun using the radial menu. I think it's also possible to bring out your gun by partially pressing on the R2 trigger. But as you noticed, don't press too far or it will do hip fire. For the Bandit Challenge, I would use the Radial menu to draw a gun. L2 to precisely aim it at the person. Then you have a few choices as to what you want to do with your target. I picked "ROB".

Note  :I'm at work. And trying to recall this info, without using the controller in my hand.

@Volt that’s the issue I keep having-accidentally shooting him from the hip! So that’s why I’m wondering if I don’t hold r2 down as hard if that would work-I was able to successfully donut once but I think I got lucky and didn’t shoot him

Just leave R2 alone completely.

Head around back to see the business.

Enter the front door.

Bring up the weapon selection wheel and chose a revolver.

Hold L2 to aim it at the doctor.

Select Rob Back room.

Follow him to the door. Once he is on the way you don't even need to aim the gun at him any more.

@gamerfan1010 to holster and unholster a weapon you use L1. Had to look that up on YT being away from my PS4. I assume this will be whichever was the last weapon you selected prior.

It took me about 2 hours to do that Bandit Challenge. I had to reload my save games multiple times. For I kept messing up and accidentally shooting the shop merchant. I had never robbed someone prior to that. I think it just took me some time practicing the mechanics of getting my gun out to rob without shooting it. Which, up until that point, whenever I pulled out my gun always resulted in me shooting people.

read the tool tips in the corner   L2/LT to interact with people, hit the corresponding button for the action you want.

I just robbed the last store that you can rob and tested the holding L2 and using R2 method. You hold L2 down and then tap R2 once very lightly and Arthur pulls out his gun and aims it at the shopkeeper.
