Kormath Posted December 8, 2018 Posted December 8, 2018 So weird. I'm out hunting for golden currant near fort Brennand, and I run across a 3 star deer. Dead eye and headshot with the Springfield, I go to skin it and it's 2 star. I pull the skin, I have a poor hide and deer is rotten? I've seen 4 other dead deer in the area that are rotten, no idea what killed them. Any idea what's going on? I'm still in chapter 3 btw if that helps.
VampireKrush Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 You are finding dead deer around? Some NPC characters will hunt/shot animals. Other animals may have killed them as well. I am not sure if those looney people attack animals or not. I won't say anything beyond that cause I don't want to spoil anything for you there.
Hazed0NE Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 I seen some as well and the one time I did catch a cougar or wolf, can't remember which it was attacking a deer. So I would guess it was another animal.

Nope, i was tracking a 3 star deer, shot it, the pelt was good, so it dropped a star from getting shot in the head with a rifle, which shouldn't have happened. Then after skinning when i was going to pick it up and move it to use it to attract scavengers, it was rotten. I've seen dead animals around, never paid much attention to them, having one degrade so quickly that i killed was odd. I'm wondering if it was one of those mangy ones and i just didn't notice it was labelled mangy? never shot and harvested one of them to see what happens, but it was around that area where they run. SNAK3S Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 I shot down a buck and watched the corpse basically just disappear. It was really wild but weird looking. I know it was a minor glitch. I had shot it close to a tree and when it bucked up, the body went through the tree. Maybe something happened like that for you where the animal interacted with the scenery negativity.
Jaskier Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 Hey dude I would advise you to try and catch a 3 star animal on a lasso and then get close to it and knife it. If it doesn't downgrade try using different weapons. I personally use the first rifle I got from John (I forgot what it's called at the moment)
Dubya75 Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 You are probably not the stellar marksman you thought you were. If you are tracking a 3-star deer, you will need to get a perfect headshot in order to preserve the pelt. If you are shooting it from too far away and not using the correct high velocity ammo for long distance shots, the bullet trajectory will result in an inaccurate hit. You can't skin decaying animals, so the poor pelt you are harvesting is a direct result of your poor shooting, not because the animal is decayed. There is nothing more to it. 1
Kormath Posted December 17, 2018 Author Posted December 17, 2018 ya'll are missing the point. Thanks for reading the OP i shoot and skin 3 star animals all the time, only one i've ever seen do this. I'm chalking it up to a glitch.
