if I have standard edition and I purchase the special edition will I be able to take up from where I am now which is chapter 3?

Good question.  

I think the save game file is tied to the game but I don't know if that could or would be transferred to a new copy of the game.  My gut says no but I don't know for sure.

Curious though.....   What's in the special edition that you want compared to the standard?

im not locked into doing it, the more I think about it the more it's not important, I wanted the rob the bank mission and hideout and just have the additional things that comes with it.

It can't hurt to try but in the event you lose your progress, you have to be prepared for that. Might be worth finishing and then starting up the special edition.

Some of the special edition items are not available, the treasure hunt and cash bonus were only available on digital purchases made before August 15, 2018.  So if that's what you're after, you're too late.
