Why choose an in-game name?

Question

I've just had to update my Social Club name to reflect what I wanted my in-game name to be - annoying as you can only change this every 365 days.

What is the point of taking the time to create an in-game name for RDR2 when nobody can see it?

You should have a choice on which you want to display.

Ive been wondering this from the start too, at first I thought well can you imagine the ridiculous names that we would then see? or maybe it was to prevent inappropriate or abusive words from being displayed but I think they have a filter on that prevents that anyway, so I really dont understand.

It seems like we should be able to not only make our name what we want, but change it as we see fit, as long as it is alwasy tied to our gamer tag what is the difference?
