Tater
I'm on the hunting request where you need a perfect cardinal, rat and woodpecker. I've had the cardinal carcass for a long time and it's never rotted. Still trying for the rat and woodpecker. Meanwhile, I just got a perfect songbird and bluejay. I was hoping to hang on to them for future challenges, will they rot if I keep them even though I don't need them for a challenge yet?
Parzival
Carcasses in your satchel don't rot.

Will they count when/if I get a challenge that requires them or do I have to get them again? I don't want to hang on to them if they won't count, but it would be great if I could accumulate some of them.
Parzival
Yeah, they'll count. Try to make a mental note of all the animals needed and nab them if you see them at any time, because they seem to get harder to find when you're actually looking for them. And keep in mind that the final list can only be completed as John in the epilogue.

Tater
This is what made me wonder about keeping carcasses in the satchel, is it incorrect? https://www.powerpyx.com/red-dead-redemption-2-all-hunting-request-locations/ Glitch Warning (Quest not progressing): When completing a Hunting Request (when sending a mail to Ms. Hobbs), make sure you do not have any other perfect carcasses for the next hunting request in your inventory! Otherwise, the game might glitch out and never give you the follow-up quest, thus making it impossible to complete the hunting requests and thus the 100% completion! There’s yet another glitch; when you’ve already gotten a bigger carcass (rabbit, opossum, skunk, beaver) and you saved the game after, but reloaded the save, then the carcass can simply disappear and is no longer checked off in your quest log. It is therefore best to keep these animals for last or to do the entire request in one sitting with no reloads.
Parzival
There were a few times I got carcasses and saved them for later hunting quests, but that glitch didn't happen to me. Are we sure it didn't get patched? Really, though, if simply reloading a save is enough to fix it like that explanation suggests, I'd take the few minutes for the game to reload over hours of hunting for a given animal in a heartbeat. Tater
Just to follow up, I FINALLY got the perfect rat, cardinal and woodpecker tonight. I found a really great spot for birds and got several other types including some hawks, eagles, loons, cormorants, bluejays, robins, cardinals, woodpeckers...wish I found the spot earlier. I mailed in the 3 carcasses, and the perfect robin I got counts toward the next hunting request. Thanks guys.
Parzival
What spot is this?
Tater
It's Fort Brenannd (I think it's called). A bit south west of Van Horn. Just stand on the upper catwalk in first person with the Varmint rifle and pick them of as they fly by. Mornings are best. There are snakes too, and rats come by to eat the carcasses. harry747
I'm at that stage of the hunting requests too, so I'm gonna check out fort Brennand.
Parzival
Robins can also be found pretty reliably on the north end of the second-largest island on the east side of Flat Iron Lake. But they spawn on the ground where they're hidden by vegetation, so be ready with an equipped weapon (the bow with small game arrows works best since they're on the ground) and full Dead-Eye meter before you approach. A crow will spawn perched on the old wagon in front of the abandoned train station north of Shady Belle, just before the bridge that goes into Saint Denis. My wife plays too and she finished the request tonight pretty quick. Shoot eagles, hawks... around because the carcasses attract rats.

harry747
ok, i got a rat and a cardinal, now i need a woodpecker. any good hunting spots? here on rdr2.org the location info is quite vague, so i guess finding one won't be easy. and knowing my luck, getting a perfect carcass will be even harder. A couple always spawn on the north end of one of the large islands to the west of the Clemens Point. I think it's the one directly south of the one with the shipwreck on it. But you have to be quick, because they spawn hidden in the vegetation. And use the bow with small game arrows, because the varmint rifle will always drop them to two stars. If you have the deer trinket, there's a small chance a two star will be upgraded to three when you pick it up, though. Edit: And approach the spot from the south, because they always fly northward when startled. Edited April 2, 2020 by Parzival

harry747
I was at the trapper near the western edge of the map, looking at clothing when a grizzly attacked me. Instead of helping me deal with the bear, he just stood there, cowering behind his table. But that wasn't all. During the fight I fired a couple of shots that missed the bear, and the bastard reported me and got me a bounty for "disturbing the peace". I went back and punched his lights out, then i went to the location near riggs station and shot him with a poison arrow, and then to the location near the new train track to blow his head off with explosive ammo. Ok, I may have over-reacted but i was pissed off Edited April 2, 2020 by harry747
