Online Mode Is An Unskilled Broken Mess.
Netnow66 replied to Ghostreaper240's topic in Red Dead Online
That's my major issue with the game. I'm hoping that when the "spring update" comes and the offensive/defensive changes are implemented, the griefers that are killing the regular gamers will be stopped. Until then, I agree with you that it's a broken mess, really only playable in glitched solo/passive lobbies. -
Accepting the game for what it is now right now is something I can't do. The game as it is today is not the game that Rockstar said it was going to be and that is the issue that I and others have with the game right now. We supposedly have changes coming to the game that will put this game more in line with the game Rockstar advertised--so there's no way I can accept this game for what it is today. Rockstar has said changes will be made so, at this point, we really don't know what "for what it is" will eventually mean. One thing I do agree with is that anything taking place in those missions that specifically call for interference can't be considered griefing. That, to me, is a form of mutual combat and if you open yourself up to that, you kind of deserve what you get. Me getting killed when spawning in, fishing or when I'm running to the butcher with a pig in my arms? I consider that griefing the first time you do it to me. We don't know exactly how Rockstar's offensive/defensive will play out yet, so we'll see if griefers "get the first one free." My opinion is that parley is one player begging a bully not to bully him again. I'm hoping offensive/defensive removes that. I only use parley for the time to report the griefer to Rockstar and block him on PSN from within the in game menus. Then I try for a solo server.
-
I'm been on PSN for years and I don't think I've added any players to my block list. RDO pops up and I have now added over 100 and reported them in the game itself. I have no idea if it works (I haven't really kept track of the griefers that have popped me while spawning in, fishing, walking the butcher with a pig in my arms, etc. I just report/block and forget). Reporting and blocking is all I have right now because I feel fighting back gives the griefers what they want. Even if you kill some of them, I think that feeds into a weird psychotic...well, I won't go there. It's obvious that with current daily challenges of "20 Players killed" and upcoming promises of "restructured Daily Challenges that eliminate hostile gameplay in Free Roam," some players are even confused as to how they should play. Younger or more impressionable players who aren't fully mentally developed are definitely not being helped by Rockstar's rather confusing behavior. While Rockstar could choose to lead them in a positive direction, they have chosen to meander a little aimlessly at this point. Hopefully the offensive/defensive update, along with "restructured Daily Challenges that eliminate hostile gameplay in Free Roam," will have the effect that most of us seem to want.
-
With "20 Players killed" as a daily challenge, I'm not quite sure how much Rockstar really is trying. I've stated before that this split personality type behavior confuses gamers as to what is really considered acceptable behavior. I guess we'll have to wait and see how "restructured Daily Challenges that eliminate hostile gameplay in Free Roam" really plays out, compared with 20 Players killed, but today's rather confusing behavior does very little to clarify Rockstar's real attitude toward griefing. Griefers and disruptive players use the fact that they can complete challenges such as this while in free roam as some kind of tacit approval that they should.
-
Any unwarranted attack on me constitutes griefing. Fortunately, you can both report them to Rockstar and block them on PSN right from inside the game. For right now, these are the only official things you can do to possibly avoid these griefing characters.
-
I felt that way at first, then got so ticked off about the griefing I kind of don't care any more. If Rockstar chooses to reset me for using passive lobbies (no duping or cash glitches) to avoid the griefest RDO is right now, so be it. I have no intention of being today's one of five players killed with a double barreled shotgun or one of two players killed in an explosion. I'm just trying to play the game the way Rockstar promoted it. And I'll tell 'em that if they come for me.
-
Not sure how much money I have at this point but I hope your assessment is correct because I will probably purchase in this order.

Kean_1 -- As always, thanks for the update. Guess I'll be logging in long enough to at least buy those pamphlets.

Decaying playing base maybe a blessing in disguise
Netnow66 replied to HuDawg's topic in Red Dead Online
And that's just why Rockstar needs to step in, because we as players can't even agree on what the biggest problem is. For me, it has been griefers and has been since day one. That has been the major complaint since the beta started. I've yet to be bored by what I can do in this game but I am ticked off when some griefer pops me when I'm spawning in, fishing or running to the butcher with a pig in my arms. Offensive/defensive, which Rockstar is promoting, doesn't seem like a reaction to boredom but to griefing (unless, of course, it is as worthless as those colored blips). When the money glitch popped up, Rockstar stepped in pretty quickly to stop it. With so many players using the passive glitch to play peacefully (not because they're bored but because they don't want to be bullied), I'm surprised that Rockstar doesn't make more of an effort to stop it. The fact that so many players do it makes me wonder if Rockstar turns a blind eye because they know the system isn't working quite as it should. -
Decaying playing base maybe a blessing in disguise

Yes, I agree with you and that's why I stated it's a personal preference. But, at the end of the day, Rockstar made statements that I want them to hold up to: "We also ask for your help in keeping Red Dead Online a fun and fair environment for everyone." and "Explore the world solo or with friends." How Rockstar chooses to accomplish what they said remains to be seen--but I do know what they said the game was going to be. And that's the only reason I purchased RDO. If they had stressed a PvP saturated environment as that other Wild West game did, I would have just avoided it. Those two statements I quoted from their promotional material outline what I expect from the game. So it seems that Rockstar needs to figure out some way to keep the griefers/bullies away from gamers like me. -

Yes, I realize that it's a personal preference, but I actually hate 'em and see them as nothing but bullies. Most of the people that started the game with me have moved on because of the griefers which makes me hate them even more. PvE servers, passive servers, offensive/defensive, whatever it takes to keep some clown from shooting me when I spawn in or out, fishing or at the butcher. -

Yes, I personally only play occasionally now and only in passive lobbies when invited. Compare that to daily play for at least two, maybe three months after Online was released. I really wish I could get into single player but I didn't like the way it was structured or the character I had to play. Some are saying that when/if the game goes to PC that will breathe new life into it. But it will be off my personal radar by then if the defensive/offensive setting doesn't keep griefers off my butt. -
HA!! Yes, I know you were and so was I. I was trying not to talk too much about it since this is an RDO board. My reference was to those wandering armed NPCs out on patrol or looking for supplies that have stepped in sometimes when I'm being outgunned. So when I see other NPCs about to be executed, I return the favor when I can.
-
I also appreciate your RDO updates. Please keep them coming, they save me time and keep me informed when I don't log in. And about that thing I quoted, I can't leave them hanging when I see them either. On occasion, some of them have just wandered up and saved my bacon, so I try and do the same for them.
-
Same old griefing clowns, as far as I'm concerned. I tend to only play in free roam when I'm on passive servers, so that's not a problem. But I keep getting popped when I decide to play quick roam missions, when I'm either spawning in or out of them. So I haven't noticed any change at all.
-
I saw something similar happen to a guy with a cart full of goods. That's the state of this game right now. I'd only try the wagon trick while on a passive server.
-
I'm not interested in limited clothing but if limited weapons are offered...
-
In free roam, defensive 100% of the time. When I want to shoot 'em up, I'll play the missions or go into one of the many Showdown modes. I can shoot players in many, many games on the market. There are very few where I can grow a character that can cook, hunt, fish, craft and, hopefully eventually, have a little homestead--while having the option to pull a trigger when I find it appropriate . So I'll come back and take advantage of that (when the changes are implemented).
-
Not sure how this is going to turn out, but it's something. Clearly not what I wanted as an anti griefer, but it's something and worth giving a try. I'm building a character in another title right now so I can hold off playing this griefer filled game until these new changes are incorporated. I think I actually look forward to how this is going to turn out. If nothing else, it seems this might be Rockstar, finally (though a bit timidly), telling the "but it's the Wild West" crowd to rein it in. Hey, isn't it almost 1900 in this game? It's about time.
-
I have no idea if Rockstar cares about griefing or not. They say they do but I don't know for sure. I do know that GTA Online has some kind of passive or solo mode though, so I'm hoping for something similar when (if) this game comes out of beta. And I'm actually heartened by the changes that have happened online, not necessarily because of players but the companies that are smart enough to offer options in their titles. And it's not about trying to please everyone as far as I'm concerned. Companies just need to be honest. That other Wild West title was honest enough to admit their focus is PvP. Black Desert Onine basically did the same thing. See? Honesty. There is more of a chance in pleasing everyone if the companies are honest about what they're bringing to the table. As I said, I don't know what the final outcome will be in terms of Rockstar combating griefing in this game. But I do know what they said they were going to do, just as I know what those other two titles said. And that's why I didn't bother with them.
-
It has nothing to do with Rockstar sitting here reading these forums and more to do with what they advertised. I could understand your "But ya'll are beating a dead horse about what they "said" " attitude if the game was out of beta. When the game comes out of beta (if), then that comment makes sense to me. Until then, I look forward to the game that was advertised. What you personally enjoy isn't the issue here. What you don't seem to get is that some people don't want to play a game and get griefed. It's as simple as that. And if "Outlaw for Life" and passive mode" make you chuckle, you must have busted a gut when Rockstar stated "As part of our response to community feedback on how to minimize certain types of destructive player behavior, we’ve made some changes to the way player blips will appear on the map." I mean, "Outlaw for Life," right?
-
The game isn't "out of beta." For those interested in talking about lawsuits or refund requests that would be premature, would it not? I don't know why, but you seem to be sure of where Rockstar is headed with the game. Are you telling me with 100% certainty that, for instance, passive or private lobbies aren't coming?
-
If Rockstar had promoted the game as "human nature is ugly and will manifest no matter what," I'd have no complaints. Rockstar didn't. Rockstar said "fun and fair environment for everyone" and "Explore the world solo or with friends." I realize "this is a beta" so we don't know what the final product will be. Once out of beta, it may, in fact, allow a "fun and fair environment for everyone" and "Explore the world solo or with friends." While I agree with you 110% that "human nature is ugly and will manifest no matter what," Rockstar's promotional statements couldn't be clearer, even going so far as to say, "Please use the in-game reporting tools to report any abusive behavior..." If the promotional material is to be believed, Rockstar is saying they will take steps to ensure a "fun and fair environment for everyone" and "Explore the world solo or with friends," just as so many other online multiplayer games do. Hell, doesn't GTA Online even have some kind of private lobbies? We shouldn't have to continually glitch this game so that a "fun and fair environment for everyone" and "Explore the world solo or with friends" is achieved. All I'm requesting is that there be truth in advertising.
-
First of all, "Explore the world solo or with friends" is what Rockstar said in their promotional material, so maybe it is just because "it's a beta." https://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/60711/Red-Dead-Online-Beta Second, I play solo and I got griefed twice today while minding my own business. The first time, someone roped me when I was going for the fast travel hitch and dragged my body. I just let him have the body and loaded into another free roam session. The second time, I was spawning out of a mission and a level 155 (I'm 58 now) headshot me. I reported him then blocked him on PSN. After one or two encounters such as this happen to me, I say to myself "Well, I tried" and I investigate methods of preventing me from being griefed. The game is more enjoyable for me when I decide when and how I want to interact with other players...just as I do in real life. For you to enjoy this game as is, you are going to have to do some investigation. Believe me, there are people who feel as you do and they find ways to make this game enjoyable. Good luck.
