The Beta has Outworn its Welcome (Rant-a-tat-tat)
BropolloCreed79 replied to HuDawg's topic in Red Dead Online
I hope so. It's ridiculous to have an endgame build that requires multiple magazines to take down an enemy, even at point blank range. If I had to guess, they're going to increase incoming damage and decrease the player health pool and armor values to offset the diminished "bullet sponge" mechanics. But that's just a guess. I'm staying away from spoilers myself, apart from game play trailers, but I have a Beta key for PS4, so I'm starting to get excited--ordered the Ultimate Edition because I figure I'm at the point where I only buy one or two games a year now, so I may as well splurge on the ones I do--and I loved the first one. Not following the progress is definitely the right way to go, though. -
The Beta has Outworn its Welcome (Rant-a-tat-tat)

Just in time for me to migrate over to The Division 2. Seriously. And isn't Anthem coming out in about five weeks? Not to mention Crackdown 3 (XB1) and Days Gone (PS4). You have Anthem on February 22nd, and The Divison 2 on March 15th--both games that are going to be robust online experiences. If this is still in online beta at that point, the game is going to hemorrhage players. Agreed. I signed on to the online for the first time in weeks last night, just to see what it was like. After multiple disconnects, I finally got into a stable server, and was able to play for about five minutes before two Delta Bravos jumped me in Blackwater like a fratboy on a case of Natty Light. My time to play is limited these days, and I don't need that kind of aggravation in my life. I signed out and went back to story mode. Ouch. Intelligence has nothing to do with griefing, and conflating the two is a logical fallacy. It's a numbers game. If I'm on a server and there's four or five players actively trying to grief me, I have literally two choices: either quit and go to another sever, or let it keep happening. Not everyone has five or six hours a day to dedicate to playing the game online. I honestly don't have an issue with griefers, personally. I didn't buy this game for the online mode, I purchased it for the story mode. When I finish it, I'll set it aside and wait for the "beta" tag to be removed before making any sort of final judgment as to the quality of the game. I don't blame the griefers, I blame R*. Enabling players to actively hinder the progression and enjoyment of an RPG game for other users is a terrible idea, but they seem content with the system they have. The thing they're forgetting is, games are supposed to be fun. For half of the gaming population, there's nothing "fun" about mixing a sandbox style mmo with persistent PvP elements--all you have to do is look at World of Warcraft. They killed independent PvP and PvE servers and made it a toggle that the player selects back in 2017. Like being able to toggle between PvE and PvP status, a feature WoW has had for over a year now? I can't imagine it'd be that hard to implement, just put the toggle on a 30 or 60 second cooldown to prevent people from going active and then turning it off to avoid being killed by the player they just took out after a respawn. Devi's advocate--you're creating "separate but equal" servers with this idea, and a Private Server just segregates players into a solo experience unless they have friends to invite. You're precluding the second "M" in "MMO", multiplayer. They'd ostensibly be playing a gimped version of the game and not be able to group up with randos (which is half of the fun in a game like this, at least for me). All private servers do is put the onus on PvE players to put in additional work to enjoy the game without being randomly killed by PvP players, while limiting the enjoyment of other features. Flip that around--have no PvP whatsoever in the main online game, and the only people who "lose out" are PvP players, who, by the way, literally have multiple alternate modes for PvP activities (but there are NO dedicated PvE modes online), and the PvP community would RIOT. Right now, there is no dedicated PvE mode in the game--everything is tailored to PvP game play, including the alternate modes. It's clear R* always intended it to be this way, so at the very least, they should have been more transparent up front and said, "THERE WILL BE NO TRUE PvE EXPERIENCE", because right now, the only true PvE experience is playing offline. Again, I don't have a dog in this fight--the online portion is like a bonus to me at this point--but telling PvE players to go to the back of the proverbial "bus" isn't the way to maintain a healthy player base. RDR2 isn't going to have as robust a player base as GTA, it's a period-piece game with a very specific aesthetic and sensibility that is tonally different. Making the game accessible to as large an audience as possible is the best way to ensure both a robust active player population, and stabilized income in the form of microtransactions. Regardless of what they do, they need to disable auto aim in PvP scenarios regardless. Any goober with opposable thumbs can hit a tracking shot in PvP with the AA enabled, taking any measure of skill out of the game completely. Gotta be honest, bro, I'm picturing you wearing the skin of your victims as a trophy when you say that. You read my mind. -
I screenshot my disconnects, add in a time stamp, and send them to R* Maybe they'll make me a mod, right, @Lonestar?

Bug - horse gone. Not dead. Just gone.
BropolloCreed79 replied to wanstronian's topic in Red Dead Redemption 2
The horse thing happened to me as well. I had a stunning black thoroughbred that was unceremoniously replaced by the "Bonykneed Limper". I'd have been more pissed, but my main horse was fine, and the Arabian was still in the stable. -
Where's the BIG money?? (Story mode)
BropolloCreed79 replied to Cokeyskunk's question in Questions & Answers
Bro, you're actually further along than I am. I just started Chapter IV two nights ago: But I'm consistently around $4-$5K, and that's after buying all the suits I could find. Yes, I dress him like a lawman (The Nevada Hat really ties the whole thing together), and don't care how much everyone in camp rips on me. I've finished about three or four of the challenges, and I've finished some of the treasure map side quests. Those do a great deal to help, as does repeatedly mudering O'Driscolls and Lemyone Boys hideouts while looting everything that isn't bolted down (Legend of the East Satchel helps). Some of the bigger jobs give you a nice little boost to the old bankroll, but I've probably made more from killing and looting than anything else. For the quickest ROI, I'd say the treasure maps are your best bet. Robbing people at gunpoint helps a bit too, as does robbing businesses. -
Psssh, please. When i get home I'll snap a pic of my whiskey shelf. Off the top of my head, I know that I have: Old Overholt Woodford Reserve Macallan 12 Year Lagavulin 16 year Quiet Man Black Patch Bourbon Whiskey Black Patch Heat and I'm probably going out tonight to pick up some High West Double Rye. Maybe a bottle of Ardberg too, just because. Edit: I don't count Mrs. Creed's Jameson Stout Barrel Aged whiskey though, she can hit like she has hammers for hands, and that's her whiskey for making Irish Mules.

I'm actually looking forward to a Battle Royale type mode on RDR. It's not my favorite thing in the world, but like I said before, the change of pace, and ability to test myself an push my comfort zone (while sipping whiskey, of course) will be fun.

What they should do is have unique cosmetic rewards available for certain thresholds of achievement. A special hat, shirt, or similar item that doesn't yield a competitive advantage.
-
It's essentially battle royale, if my read on it was correct, which actually is a decent idea for folks who want the occasional change of pace. To be fair, Fortnite is a ripoff of PUBG, which is a ripoff of the actual film, "Battle Royale" (which I HIGHLY recommend). Yes, Millennials, your precious Hunger Games is a blatant ripoff of the beloved Japanese Manga (and feature film). But as I've said repeatedly here and elsewhere (and in the spirit of Rainman,) "Fortnite Sucks". As a former Division player, I love the idea of standalone modes like this to change it up a bit. Even the most ardent PvE player gets the occasional itch to try out something new, and having a limited scope application like this is going to be good for the game's longevity.

Yes, but do you have a dedicated Beer Fridge? Oh, I bet there's plenty to do. This isn't Marvel Heroes Omega As I am so fond of telling my kids, "The United States of America does not negotiate with terrorists". Begging your pardon, m'Lord, I doubt you saw down the length of your nose upon us humble peasants from atop your high horse: I suggest Fortnite. I somehow suspect that is not a tender, gentle love.

Yea, I'll be "doing challenges" like that, too.

Is There A Vendor To Sell Tonics & Bottles To?
BropolloCreed79 replied to KylesDad7's topic in Red Dead Online
Nah, bro, that's MY trick. Well it IS a beta, but I read that several things are currently "switched off", and will be activated once the online portion goes "live". I can't say with any sort of authority what will be added back in or activated at the official launch, but it's alleged to be substantive. -
There's a simple solution to this that everyone is overlooking: coordinating a week of nothing but everyone being a total troll. Total and complete anarchy. Just shoot/stab/blow up everything and anything that moves. The game will devolve into a lawless wasteland, and trolls will get bored without having any "sitting ducks" to pick off or harass. I'm kind of getting intrigued by the idea.....

Take down the legendary buck if you haven't already. The trinket has a chance to upgrade a pelt to perfect.

The Varmint Rilfe is not the BEST weapon for PVP

If they were smart, they'd have the enemies be a ripoff of the troglodytes from Bone Tomahawk.
-
It's funny, but I somehow get the sense that they already have additional content planned for the rollout or "Gold" version of RDO, and that the beta was more to test the servers and economy. There's no way what we've been exposed do should be representative of the final product, apart from performance and mechanics (alleged anti-griefing measures aside), which makes it very difficult for me, personally, to invest too much into the Beta without definitive or declarative statements by R* as to what the "go live" date is for "Gold" and a specific list of impending/planned changes and actions for said "go live" event.

Black estate boss hat location?
BropolloCreed79 replied to Minimoni's topic in Red Dead Redemption 2
I actually found the black estate boss hat on someone I killed in a gunfight in Lemyone back during Chapter 2. I said, "Howdy" and he made a derogatory comment, so I pulled him off his horse with a lasso and shot him in a very uncomfortable place (no, not the back of a Volkswagen). Then the hat started glowing on the ground, and I was all, "cool, free hat". -
Somewhat related: I was finishing the Master Hunter 9 Challenge two days ago, and while looking for the opossum, I was attacked by a cougar AND a grizzly at the same time. Fortunately, I've become somewhat addicted to rolling with the incendiary buckshot rounds by default, so, everything was fine, but I did have to change my pants after it was over.
