  1. Ok... This may not need to be said but I will say it just in case, is the ventilation on your console(s) sufficent? At least on the PS4-PRO and on the PS4, rebuilding database will increase performance and it is something a lot of people just fail to do often enough. Digital foundry have made videos how performance in RDR2 differs between the consoles and resolutions. They found just what I experienced, that 1080p on the PRO gives a locked 30 fps even in Saint Denis and the OneX close behind. And of course that the oneX is the most powerful console with the best image quality and only a few drops in fps. They also did compare the PS4-PRO vs itself on different resolutions and found exactly what I have said, maximum resolution results in less than 30 fps and 1080p results in a locked 30 fps. One more thing, have you disabled supersampling? If not, then do that otherwise the stutter will still be there. So in the case that you have done all that has been suggested and still has problems, then something is very wrong with your console. https://www.digitalfoundry.net/2018-10-31-red-dead-redemption-2-ps4-pro-1080p-hdr-analysis
  2. I own a PS4, a PS4-PRO and an XboxX. And the game certainly looks best on the X, no competition there. But the overall game experience for me is best with the PRO and it is because of the frame rate. If I put my PRO so it displays at 1080p and no hdr, I get locked 30 fps even in Saint Denis. This is not possible even on the X but it is understandable as the X is displaying the game in a way better resolution. So in the end one must choose if resolution or frame rate is most important, for me it is the frame rate as I am really sensitive to frame drops. Playing the game on the original PS4 is bad and as I have seen at a friends house playing on the XoneS, that one is even worse. I am no fanboy of any console as I mostly play games on my PC because I normally cannot stand 30 fps but some games make 30 fps better than others. RDR2 on the PRO, 1080p is in my opinion the way to go with this game but I understand if others have different opinions. Playing on the PRO at higher resolution will result in bad frame rates in some places and I would not recommend anyone to play the game that way.
  3. I have the normal edition so this is obviously not a personal issue for me, I do still have an opinion. First of all you should listen to the advices given by the others here. Just do not use the free guns until they are available in the “normal” storyline or free roam. Personally I only use revolvers as handguns and would never ever even touch the semiautomatic guns or the volcanic as they really are not “Wild West” themed for me. That despite the volcanic being a real old west gun but irl it was a really bad gun and the game makes it way better than it really was, there is a reason the volcanic guns and rifles did not become very popular irl. In regards to the horses, do as you like but I prefer to just ride up north and get the White Arabian for free in chapter 2. It is not as good as the Black or Rose Arabian but it is free. So in that regard I do not find it any strange that those with the special editions of this game uses their bonus horses. In the end, you get more or less all weapons for free in one way or the other anyway. It is the customization that may be costly but definitely worth it even the customizations that are for aesthetics only.
  4. I know this is not the answer people would like to hear at the moment, but as it is right now there is only one thing to do. First change the resolution on the ps4-pro to 1080p and select HDR off. This will make the game run smother and will take away the blurry picture. To me that setting is by far the best both regarding performance and picture quality.
  5. I have no issues letting my 8 year old and 5 year old watch while I play. To me it is just a game and I had myself very liberal parents that had no problem letting me watch violent movies and such. If I as a parent tells my children that it is just a game and game, movies and such are not real. Then I think they will understand because I remember myself able to understand the difference between fiction and real life at a very early age. That is not to say that all children are equally good to understand the difference between fiction and real life. But I turned out quite well and I have no doubt that my children will turn out just fine and that watching me playing a game will not harm them in any way. In the end it is all up to how the parent explains things and what behavior and personality the child has. I would also like to say that none of my friends has any problems with their children watching this game and my friends are not exactly trailer trash. I am myself working as an historian with the Abrahamitic religions and their history as my main focus. My friends are mostly in the same field and I have two brothers whom one is a lawyer and the other one is a soon to be police officer. None of them has any problems playing violent games and letting their children watch. This may be a cultural issue!? I am from Sweden and here, at least in my social circle there is no panic if there is violence or nudity in a movie or a game. Children these days discuss Game of Thrones at school so I am quite certain RDR2 is not such a big deal.
  6. Arthur Morgan is my favourite by far. When going into this game I was certain that no one could be as cool and interesting as John, I was so wrong! Arthur Morgan’s story is just so well played out and the voice acting is just phenomenal. I really wish for a new game + because I want to play the entire story and all side quests again with Arthur with all of my customized weapons and clothes.
  7. I play on a PS4-pro and I am very se sensitive to frame drops, that is why I normally play on PC. In most cases I do not play games under 60 fps at all but RDR2 is way too good to ignore. With that said I must say I am surprised to hear from people complaining about bad fps... I can understand that the og-ps4, Xone, XoneS May not deliver a smooth experience but the ps4-pro deliver perfectly at 1080p and no hdr. The XoneX delivers almost perfectly even on 4K but back to the pro. As is with the blurred graphics on the higher resolutions and the horrible implementation of hdr in this game, PS4-pro looks better at the moment in 1080p and hdr off anyway. And if you still have bad frame rate, then just rebuild your database. It is something most people sadly do not do but should be done after any major installation as it really makes the console work way better. Try it out guys and gals, you have nothing to lose.
  8. I am a Swedish man of 36 years old and I have always loved the old Western stories. I am a teacher in history and religion at university level but have also teached at high schools. My wife is Japanese and we have a daughter and a son together and my plan for them is of course to become gamers like their father 🙂. My wife may have other plans but those are not that important when it comes to this issue. I am not rich nor am I poor but I have enough to make me and the rest of my family have nice and mostly comfortable lives. I love to travel with my family and naturally we travel a lot to Japan to see that side of our relatives at least once a year but we also love to go to Dubai and stay at the Hilton resorts, strangely we actually prefer the Hilton resort and spa in the emirate of Ras al Khaimah. So as one can see, I prefer traveling or buying things for my gaming with the extra money I make. My philosophy in life is that we only live once and while living one should do anything that is legal and not morally bad, to try to feel good and doing something fun every day. That does not mean one need to travel every day but reading a good book or going with the kids to a hockey game or anything that brings joy in life is good enough. This philosophy started a few years ago when one of my best friends got killed in a flight accident and it really devastated me. He was that kind of person that always had fun so despite him not having the time most of get on this earth, he still lived it to the full extent. Now I am not an adrenaline-junkie as he was so I do not need to do aerobatics to feel alive, a good game like RDR2 combined with my loving family is enough for me 🙂
  9. I will do exactly that 🙂! I also mostly play at night because of work and that my family tends to want me available during the days. So my solution is to mostly play at night and then tell my wife “Oh honey, I did not spend all night playing, that is for sure! Of course I went to bed quite early, just after you where sleeping I believe”. White lies like that makes ones life way less complicated. Thanks for the welcome! I have been a lurker for some time now but decided to stop the lurking and actually sitting my fat ass down and just enjoy the conversations around the campfire.
  10. Greetings all! I am new here but definitely not new to gaming as I am a cranky 36 year old man. I play RDR2 on my PS4-pro and I needed to change from my 60 inch 4K HDR -tv to my old set that is not bad but still only a 47 inch 1080p tv with no HDR. And the thing is that the game looks way better on my old tv with HDR off and played in 1080p without the “upscale” or what it is called ,option on. So for the game to look good(and it does), I needed to gimp my own equipment and putt all bells and whistles to off. This is is of course not acceptable but it is the only solution as I see it right now. And to be honest, the HDR in this game is way less impressive than other titles that I have played. I would go so far to even say HDR in this game looks in many cases worse than SDR and that is just crazy. I own more or less all the exclusive games made for the PS4 and I also play on a very good gaming PC, i7 8700K with a asus motherboard that automatically or when needed and I have a Asus GTX Strix 1080 and 32gb of ram. So even though I am not a pro when it comes to technical terms and such, I am an avid players and a fan of good games. I even own an XboxoneX but I play it quite reluctantly because I am not a fan of the controllers, so I gave it to my children to use instead. Do not think I am trying to start a flame war here because I am not, the XoneX is a great console but not just my cup of tea. In any event, I can endure this game even without HDR and close to 4K just because I really love the game. Still of course, this is not the kind of stunt that a studio such as Rockstar* should pull on their fans. I will introduce me here as opposed to the “introduction” section just because I need to sleep any minute or I will be too tired for work. As mentioned, I am a cranky 36 year old male from Sweden but married with a woman from Japan. We have produced two small gamers that despite what I tell them are very eager to watch when I play this game. I am lucky that my son and daughter are both very mature and I dare say, intelligent so they can easily see that games like RDR2 is just that, a game. I have studied history and religion and have briefly reached history and religion on a university level. My wife is an interior designer but is thinking of changing career. I love westerns and mostly I love the really gritty ones. Like “True Grit”, “Deadwoos”, “The hateful eight” and of course many more. I have not played that much, I am just starting chapter three and can say that after I swithched to my old tv and played the game in sdr, I have seen none of the frame rate issues people mentions in other threads and my eyes are sensitive to framedrops. But as I explained earlier, I did indeed see the blurry qualities with the visuals and also that the HDR was horrible. I hope to enjoy a long stay here with you fellers if you would let me stay here at the comfy campfire? :-)
