Kormath
Working through the hunting mastery challenges and I'm on the cougar hunt. Problem is where I know one too me if my horse and killed me, there's none to be found. Googled locations and the maps but so far no luck. Using both predator baits, using cover scent. Working the black forest area above Lake Owanjila now, 4 nights in a row so far with nothing but boar attracted to the bait. Any tips on this one? Benjo
There's an area at the top of tall trees, like an area inside some cliffs where you will find cougars. When you get there a cougar will show on the main map so you know you are in the right place. I stand on the rocks around the side and cougars are often there. If not, leave, do a mission or something and return. Bait doesn't really work. Another good area is where you cross the river into the great plains, ie the grassy area right where you enter the great plains Spoiler (near Beecher's hope area)
oldphart-JRC
Try using a fresh killed pig for bait

I found my cougars southwest of the "W" in West Elizabeth. Map below. They were scare, having to find one, leave the area and do other things, come back and hunt again, but I grinded through it. I found the,m to come out at night. Spoiler

Reveal hidden contents Same map i found. I spent 2 nights up in that little area under the W, and another place online said to hunt the forest north of the lake, so i spent 4 game nights there without seeing anything but a couple wolves, lots of coyotes and boar. I'll go try the spots below and west of that one, since i'm still in that area, then go try the ones @Benjo mentioned after work tonight. I'm stoked on the depth they put into hunting on this game. I've always been a big fan of hunting games, liked hunting in RDR, and they made it better here. I don't think i've played a mission in 3 or 4 real days 😁 Edited November 7, 2018 by Kormath
X S
A YouTuber I follow, gtamen, discussed this. The areas towards the end of the game are where you want to go, because the spawn areas are larger.
Limey77
I saw all those Youtube videos but the place I found was best was up in Tall Trees. If you zoom in on the T of Tall there's a small indent to the west. If you head in there at night there is often a cougar in there. You can tell if it's going to be there because there will be a deer carcass on your way in. If the deer is there, proceed carefully using Eagle Eye, if not then back out to the road and camp for as long as possible and come back. I got all 5 in here in about an hour of trying.
