Why is my Honor dependent on a vote?

I wanted to make a bad character, but it's a struggle when my group of randoms is always voting for the good choice. I just hit full honor despite my best intentions of doing otherwise. 
Has this been bothering anyone else? I feel like Rockstar really needs to look into this. Vote for the outcome of the story mission, but count our votes towards our morality.

I had a guy freak out over the vote result once.  He spent the entire rest of the mission trying to sabotage it.

I like the idea of giving honor points depending on what YOU choose, but if the problem is being bad, it's easier to get bad rep than good... kill everything, leave animals to rot, shoot townsfolk.

I had the opposite issue last night.  My friends voted to do a "bad" thing while I chose to try and be the good guy.  The vote was 2 to 1 and I became "dishonorable" because of it.  All in good fun though I could really care less.  .....although in the long haul I would prefer to be honorable.

I usually have people vote my way (being bad), but I did have a couple times with a split vote, and I have no idea if it affected my honor.
