According to this GameRant article, there are rumors floating around that the delay to RDR2 might possibly have been caused by an inability to get Sony on board with cross-platform play.

These are just rumors at this point, but it's an interesting article nonetheless, considering we haven't heard much from Rockstar.

Someone mentioned it here already:

Though no rumors on it. I see you commented in it as well. How do you feel now that there are rumors for the topic? Is it any more possible?

I remember discussing it, but the article seemed to give some credence to it.

I sincerely hope they can get it done.  As someone who purchased GTA V on XB1, PS4 and PC, I would have loved to play my character across all platforms.  We're going to look back on this someday and realize just how silly closed networks truly were.

This is what I was thinking. Playing the same character across all platforms would be a HUGE bonus. First thing I thought when I seen the title of the thread.

Sony is a company that has always been looking out for itself. They will be the reason no cross-platform will exist. If they did or do get on board, there is a better chance of it happening but it likely never will so eh. I don't see the delay being down to this.
