JDPerry_14
So, I road my horse over to this mission where you are supposed to meet up with John Marston to begin The Sheep and the Goats. I went to his icon which is shown on the map at the sheep stables just inside of valentine. Now, I’ve tried this multiple times with restarting the game and including my entire PS4. Everytime I come to this spot John Marston is nowhere to be found and I can’t begin this mission. Does anyone know what’s going on here? I’ve tried looking everywhere online and I’m not finding anything but walkthroughs of the mission which I don’t need. Needing explanation, thanks! Jaskier
Hey there, bud I had a similar problem only difference is that I couldn't find John Marston near the cow house where he was supposed to be but I heard his voice. I tried to restart the game too and blah blah but it didn't work. So instead of getting mad and check up the whole internet I just booted the Red Dead Online. I wanted to try it for a while anyway. So I created my character and played for a little. I didn't even get a chance to play multiplayer yet. Only first initiation mission with horses (not gonna spoil any more). When I came back to campaign I went to Valentine to get a hair cut and then straight to John. He was there waiting for me. Also if that doesn't help, maybe you should load previous saves? JDPerry_14
Yeah I actually may have to try that. It’s just weird, because also sometimes, normally when I first get into story mode the mission will be there. But then it I end up doing like a side quest say Albert Mason for example the mission will disappear and I’ll have to restart the game for it to reappear. I’ll try the online idea being that I haven’t tried playing that yet either and have been wanting to. Hopefully this solves my issue!

JDPerry_14
Rockstar Support has just gotten back to me. They had suggested trying to completely shutting off your console, mine being a PS4, and waiting 30 seconds or so. Then, proceed turning the console then holding R1 + L1 while booting the game up to play. I am going to try this maybe sometime tonight and will let everyone know how it goes if anyone else is facing this issue.
Grizx
What I did was complete whatever mission I had left, came back to the mission spot at night and went into the saloon instead of meeting John, I also went online but that didn’t seem to help, but worth’s try. hope I helped in some way. Moosh89
At night in the game, John's icon moves to the smaller saloon - maybe try to initiate it there instead of the stockyard *Edit - just reread last post... I'm out of ideas. I hope mine isn't bugged because that is my only next mission Edited January 17, 2019 by Moosh89
JMTREY
I had this problem but it fixed itself once I completed other missions. Make sure you have completed money lending and other sins II from Mr. Strauss, where you have to go collect from Thomas downes.
demtah
Had the same problem and solved it! I went to the small saloon at night, where I found John. However, I was unable to speak to him and start the mission. So I started antagonizing other people at the saloon, which of course resulted in a fight. John Marston, being a loyal friend and gangmember, fled as fast as he could. Next day, he was standing in the sheep farm and I was able to start the mission

I just had a friend of mine asking what to do and I couldn't figure it out. I will let him know and see if it works out for him.

I'm on second play through and am doing all sorts of ambient challenges and such before I go on to complete Thomas Downes, as he's the one who gives Arthur tuberculosis, so I understand. And, according to the guidebook, you have to have completed Thomas Downes before the sheep and goats mission, which makes it odd that it keeps appearing for me (and then, when I go there and can't find John, it disappears for a while). At this point, I'm just ignoring it until I (a) finish the ambient challenges and finding everything I can find (should take me a couple of months at my rate) and (b) finally give in and infect Arthur with Thomas Downes's tuberculosis.
