Fishing since the Spring update

First there are a lot more fish, everywhere,

Now it seems that you need specific lures to catch them.

Up until this update I was using only the swamp lure as it was all I had, I actually had 3 or 4 lures early on  but in the beginning I lost a few of them, then I found that using the one swamp lure in lakes, rivers, creeks or swamps gave me the same results.

Over the past few days there were two different fish items in the daily challenges "cook seasoned succulent fish meat" and "catch 5 different fish" I think?

Well I went to get the sockeye salmon as they give you succulent fish meat and I could not get a bite, for a long time, and there were plenty of fish, I would cast right in front of them, I did the flick, etc.. ( I have caught nearly 5000 fish, so I know exactly how to catch fish effectively.) Then I realized they might have updated the fishing and so I went and bought the other lures and sure enough, first cast with the special spinner caught a perch, so that worked as it is supposed to, it will catch any and all fish in a given body of water large and small, and then I put on the special river lure, which was for legendary fish in story mode, I think I could have just used the river lure  but this is what I had on hand,, and sure enough first cast again, caught a salmon, and each subsequent cast as well, actually catching them has never been easier, it was really quick, no messing around, just one after the other.

So that was my observation.

I'm still waiting for an Accessibility toggle to auto-reel fish as currently I can't catch anything much over 1lb. in Singleplayer or Online (due to being physically disabled). Luckily I got in touch with the lead UX developer who lead the UX team on RDR2 and he's forwarded my email to the person now in charge of UX design for RDR2 as this guy works at Guerilla now.

Anyway, yesterday I was bored so I made this chart in anticipation of when I will hopefully be able to fish. Most the info is from the in game Compendium and whatever info didn't clash with it from RankedBoost. It's a bit more straightforward than it is on that site.

Personally, I splurged and got the special spinner early on. I rarely use anything else. I fill up my sachel with whatever happens to be around and move on... I have noticed your more likely to catch a fish on each cast since the update, but since I don’t keep detailed logs, I thought maybe I’m imagining it.

river lure works for me in rivers and lakes for medium and large sized fish... too busy killing gators, herons and pelicans when in the swamp to bother fishing... seems all animal spawns have been reinvigorated since the last update has been my observation

I dont like the special spinner as it catches all fish, I only want the bass, trout, salmon etc.. $2 and above fish, or of course larger, but I dont want to be bothered with blue gil, bullhead, perch, etc..

I catch them all lol. I do use the other lures during free roam fishing events, but when I’m fishing for profit I’ll fill my satchel with every species in the area and hopefully a large fish for my horse. Plus I find it kind of funny how you can jam so many fish into your pocket...

add in all the animal meat, small hides, squirrels and birds on the ride to the fishing spot and back to the butcher... that’s one magic satchel indeed. I’m pretty sure I couldn’t fit even half as much my old army duffle bags.
