Advice Needed

Hello All

 

First, let me say how much I am enjoying RDR Online now that we can protect ourselves better against the griefers.  It is so nice to be able to ride around and just explore - engage in NPC missions and side events without worry of the kiddies killing you all the time for no reason.  I do wish there was something to be done about the little shites looting the bodies after you work so hard to clear a gang hideout or protect a campsite.  It is quite frustrating that they can swoop in like vultures and loot your spoils but .. ah well - I have to be grateful for the upgrades they have made. 

I do need some advice though about shooting in general.  When I play the free roam events I die all the time.  I try and fight back and I will shoot and shoot and shoot at another player but they do not die.  I end up getting killed after firing several times at someone.  Do they have an ability card that I do not have or am I just missing something about the aiming and shooting process?  Are headshots the only way to kill another player in these events?  I tried using Dead Eye but it drains so quickly and I usually end up getting killed by a player behind me while I am trying to focus on someone else.   What are the tricks, guys?  I am so new to video games and hopefully I will get better in time.

It's a lot to do with using the right gun in the right situation. 

Unfortunately the carbine repeater is pretty crappy, so if you're low level you are at a real disadvantage until you unlock something better.

As soon as you unlock a shotgun, buy one. At close range you will one shot anyone with standard ammo.

The bolt action is a very effective rifle (even though I don't like it because it isn't cowboy enough for my taste), so getting that will make a big difference. 

A couple of revolvers for versatile mid range complete a sensible loadout. I don't see a massive difference in performance, so as soon as you can have an offhand holster a second cattleman is fine.

Freeroam events can be a bit of a kill frenzy. Until you get more comfortable,  find somewhere in cover and take targets of opportunity. And watch the minimap. 

But yes, headshots are a vital part of the game if you want to kill other players.

Headshots and shotguns. I’d suggest playing some PVP modes for awhile, if for no other reason than to practice you combat skills. Try to focus on modes that allow you to respawn and get back into the fray. It’s really one of those things that you just need to practice it starts to click with you.

here good tips ...
cook big game meat IV , they last longer , use slow and steady and ability card , and have a ability that restore your dead eye per headshot and strange medicine can help alot , also in free roam it possible to havea  posse to eam up vs others , maybe why you have difficulty alone

i forgot to say , your in-game Control settings for your controllers should be   set    at   max look / aim sensivity ,  low dead eye look zone ,  and wide  auto-aim lock on

A single ability card costs $900. 50 initial, 350 upgrade. 500 Max. 

Before you sink that much cash into a single card, you have to determine its long-term value to your style of play or need. 🐰
