I follow you now. I agree that it would require some strong game mechanics to correctly identify the aggressor in some situations and that no matter what, there is no way to stop people who are just in it to ruin other people’s day.

Please post your review, looks interesting!
-
I apologize, but I don’t quite follow what you mean...Would you be willing to elaborate how one might use that against another?
-
You are 100% correct, which is why there must be real consequences for those that choose to do it, e.g. you lose start back at Rank 1 and/or lose all your hard earned gear/progress IF you are caught or killed after the act. While it may not deter all indiscriminate killing, it should definitely make someone think twice before they engage in it.

Reward for a griefer? Yes really.

Awesome! -
That’s kind of funny.

Same here, I’m just throwing out more ideas to try to make the game even better.
-
I agree with what you both said, but I don’t want the point of the post to be lost, which is there needs to be consequences for committing crimes, more than a bounty because that does not negatively impact anyone. However, for example, having your rank reset to 0 and losing your gear would be real because they would have to put their actual time back into the game to attain it again.

I’m going to try to get with you guys this weekend! I’ll be on the look out!

One could argue that a main reason a civilized society functions is because as a whole the people in that society have an agreed upon set of rules in which they follow. Those that violate those rules suffer a myriad of consequences, depending on the severity of the violation. These consequences act as deterrents to prevent individuals from breaking the rules of society. I think a primary reason for a lot of the indiscriminate killing or “griefing” is because there very limited consequences in the game. My suggestion is to implement a system that punishes individuals that commit crimes, and reward individuals that participate in bringing perpetrators to justice. The system works like this: If an individual commits a crime, they receive a bounty that increases as they commit more crimes. This bounty can be collected by another individual (or split between a posse) that hunts down and captures/kills (depending on the severity of the crime, etc.). This is where the consequences of actions come into play. If the perpetrator is captured/killed, or log off (to attempt to avoid justice), they lose an amount of money/items/rank (corresponding with the severity of the crime). While this system does not eliminate the possibility of “griefers,” it will help deter the indiscriminate killing and/or provide action for those who want PvP in the open world. Finally, implement this system into three types of lobbies...free aim/universal/passive. The Free aim lobbies system would be the same as the Universal Lobby system except only free aim is allowed. Universal allows individuals to use their preferred aiming and passive does not allow for any killing, etc. Please feel free to add your ideas!

Yeah I was being generic. I also am content with the game as is.
-
Ultimately I don’t really care which way they go, but my question is why does it seem like everyone wants it one way or the other? actually I have an idea... will post when I am off work.
-
Well for what it’s worth, I am content with the current state of the game (would definitely like to continue to see new missions,etc.). Having said that, R* attempted to fix the things I had issues with. However, I think that the including the option for various types of lobbies (private, free aim, etc.) would be a fair concession to appease the players such as @HuDawg and that would allow ALL players to play the game more closely to the way they would like to.
-
Ugh, this debate is going no where. So I think everyone should settle on the agree to disagree philosophy... however @HuDawg, I imagine the point of the system is to appease the (apparently large number of) folks that were calling on R* to do something about the perceived griefer issue. Now, R* can say they have done something to attempt to reduce the number of griefing incidents. However, like gun laws, you cannot eliminate the problem as people who want to do it will find a way. As a fellow realist, I think we can agree on that concept and accept the system for what it is and let it go. Haha everyone good?
-
I have had no issues with griefers if any level since the new system has been implemented and that is despite having never changed to “defensive.” The difference between the arguments is that one is based on what a player has witnessed happening to him, vs the second scenario which illustrates possible scenarios. Yes tomorrow that player may go online and be griefed for an hour by a level 200 player, but until it happens, that is only a hypothetical scenario for that player. real life example: I COULD win the lottery. But the state I live in is not going to give me a dime of the money until I do. Therefore the scenario in which I have that money is not a reality for me. however, I am sure it has happened to others as there is no fool proof method to eliminate it. Just like in real life, bad people find ways to do bad things regardless of laws or systems in place.

Hey all, Based on this thread, it sounds like this is a really fun group. My schedule is a little crazy, but if you all are ok with a little inconsistency and don’t mind I would love to ride with you guys every once in a while.

I was able to do it from a water tower in St. Denis. Placed my horse under the ledge and just walked off.
-
I’ve been trying to get more active as well, now that we can tell who is hostile and who is not and do something about it without it counting against us.
-
I haven’t noticed anything significant, but that would be a pretty cool.

Saw a cheat tonight. A posse of three were able to go invisible and also teleport around map.

Lemat revolver possible game crasher
The Coca-Cola Kid replied to BlackMagic's question in Questions & Answers
FYSA - I’m on Xbox One and bought duels LeMats and fully customized them. So far no issues on my end regarding crashes, etc. -
Agreed. I had fun with this new mode in the game...even though I couldn’t get a good hand to save my life haha.
-
Right now my loadout is duel Schofields, Lancaster repeater and bolt action rifle... but I am interested to see the stats on the LeMat revolvers.

Let me preface my argument with the fact that I do not personally care about what R* does with griefers and/or a passive mode. I am specifically talking about griefers, which I define as individuals that go out of their way to disrupt others during the game (ie. while at the butchers, fishing, hunting, or just minding their own business). In regard to the excuse for said behavior, I have seen the use of flawed logic and/or uninformed information when it comes to the historical time period in which RDR2 takes place. I'm estimating here, but I would presume based on my research that about 90-95% of the population at that time were scrounging to survive and get by, 4-9% had money and lived in highly populated areas, and about 1% committed violent crimes for whatever reason. Of that 1%, the infamous outlaws usually had a moral or ethical reason why they did what they did (money, revenge, etc.). Usually, they did not kill for the sake of killing / because "they could." They also lived very hard lives, always looking over their shoulders because they were in a constant state of being hunted down. Also, I would offer one to take a closer look at the career/life spans of the more notorious "outlaws" - The majority of them did not last very long. Here are some examples: Billy the Kid - supposedly made first kill in 1877, was killed in 1881. Kill total (approximate) 21. Jesse James - 1866-1882 - criminal because of disapproval of North after the Civil War. Kill total (approximate for entire James' Gang) 20. John Wesley Hardin - supposedly made first kill circa 1867. Sent to prison in 1877. Released in 1894, killed in a year. Kill total (approximately) 27. Butch Cassidy - first violent crime in 1889 (bank robbery). Believed killed in South America in 1908. Kill total (at least charged with) 0. Bill Dooin - started with Dalton Gang, 1891. Stated the Wild Bunch and the Doolin gang. Killed 1896. Dalton Gang - Founded 1890, almost all killed by 1892. Again, this is just my two cents after reading all through all this stuff about "outlaws for life" as the reason why they do what they do. Currently, there is no consequence for being an "Outlaw for life," which is the REAL reason the majority of people do it. If there were consequences ie, you were banned for a short time, or you lost ALL your money or were RESET to Rank 1 after committing a violent indiscriminate crime and then captured or killed, that would deter a majority of the indiscriminate killing. The excuse to randomly kill others because one wants to be an "outlaw for life" or equivalent is a weak point at best. Let's call it what it is, which is three options (or any combination of following): 1) Are trying to emulate outlaws, which demonstrates an inflated idea or no idea of the history of the actual outlaws or United States at this time, 2) Personal gratification from the simulated killing of things, 3) just being an asshole and wanting to **** with others because they are targets of opportunity. I honestly don't care which category a griefer falls into, however, own it, if you grief just to mess with people, don't try to rationalize it, go full on Dark Knight Joker or Tyler Durden and own it. ***RANT COMPLETE***
