I love my Litchfield repeater (fully modded - rifling, sights etc, with express rounds) for all round day-to-day protection, good damage, range and fire rate, plus 16 rounds in the tube. I'm probably biased due to the fact that I have a real (Italian reproduction) Henry rifle in 44-40 calibre. Once I am in a proper fight (or going into the PvP lobby) my (fully modded) Springfield, with high velocity rounds does it for me. The range on it is right up to max, and at any distance it 2 shot kills to the body. Just let auto aim work its magic, and pull the trigger. For close work, nothing says 'go away' like dual wield sawn-off shotguns.

Mindless twaddle. What rank are you?
Harlock1796 replied to dredd1961's question in Questions & Answers
49. My grinding goal was the grey Nokota with the black face at rank 48. I'm happy, now (pending that pretty grey fox trotter) -
For me, it depends what I have to lose. If my horse is full of skins and carcasses, I'm a lot more protective. If I don't have any stuff to lose, I'm more prepared to give people the benefit of the doubt. I'd rather be killed (when I have nothing to lose) and then unleash righteous fury on the murderer (repeatedly and with extreme prejudice) than shoot first and kill an innocent guy, maybe turning them into a griefer due to the negative experience.

I fairly regularly see people 'phasing in and out' during a game, in the same way that people do when they've just spawned, are at the butcher, or ride the objective wagon into the quest completion zone. Do we think that this is just a 'one of those things' glitch, or are people deliberately using some sort of exploit? For all I know, I'm doing it too, and just don't know it. It's very frustrating when in PvP someone runs round the corner, you're about to shoot them, the phase out, back in again and kill you. I occasionally see it in free roam as well. I don't want to be reporting people for cheating if it's just something that happens, e.g. due to a poor connection. If it's an exploit, I don't want to know how to do it, but I'd like to know whether it exists as "a thing".

The only time I ever got a map was a time when I let the leader go, but just as he was leaving he said something I took offence at, so I shot him. I looted the body and found a map. Of course, I decided that this approach must increase your chance of finding a map. It goes without saying I have never got another one like this, it was sheer coincidence.

Why would you or do you lower the camp flag??
Harlock1796 replied to Major Dammidge's question in Questions & Answers
That sucks. Given that R* have implemented a mechanism to stop us being shot when the flag's up, why the hell do they allow us to be targeted with a lasso? BTW, Major Dammidge, I think I happened across you the other night online - but didn't realise it was you - your gamertag caught the eye, and there can't be 2 WehTuFats in the world. It's interesting, because I assumed that I was only playing on UK/European servers, but I think you are US. Maybe because I was up and playing at 2.30am GMT there wasn't any action on this side of the Atlantic... -
Maybe controversial, but I quite like the new game mode. I'd swap it in a heartbeat for all/any of the free roam stuff that we all want, but I rather like it for what it is, especially the big team version. The 'one life' aspect of it makes it a bit more thoughtful than the frantic rush around that you get in the other modes, where death is no more than a minor inconvenience. I suspect that cranking out a PvP game mode like gun rush is a fraction of the work of any of the free roam stuff we are looking for. Games like Overwatch (I have a 12 year old son, that's why I know) have custom game tools where players can create their own game modes, with all sorts of play parameters, in seconds. The R* Devs can no doubt do similar. I don't think they have a room full of people grinding away to make a Battle Royale mode, with the result of putting back work on free roam.

Maybe I'm too optimistic, but hopefully if you kill someone who has a bounty on them that won't be murder. You might event get the bounty, but that does sound too good to be true.

I'm not sure they have quite been that unequivocal (see the other thread where exactly what they have said has been pretty carefully unpacked by Bropollocreed - pinned in the main bit of the forum), unless there is new news, which I hope there is!

What if you could toggle 'shoot other players' on and off, i.e. a hostile mode?. If you toggle hostile on, your dot on the map instantly goes red, but there is a 1 minute lag before you can shoot anyone. If you are toggled off you show as pink, and you can only shoot hostile players, or alternatively only people who have already shot you (who would have to be hostile anyway). If one person in a posse is hostile, everyone has to be. That way, you know the intentions of other people on the map. If those intentions change, you have a minute to get the hell out of there. No more random shot in the back of the head, but not a completely safe, sanitised version of the Wild West either. Couple that with some points from Madrigalian's post above, e.g. below a certain honour level you are an 'outlaw' and can't be anything but hostile; shops won't serve you, or will charge you more; bounty hunters spawn to chase you etc. I like the idea of outlaws having bounties on them, but can't see a perfect way to stop this being exploited - grief until you are a major league outlaw, then let your friend kill you/take you in for the reward. Maybe if some of the bounty was paid out of your own funds? Like the $2 fine for being killed by the law, but proportionate to the bounty - enough to make it unattractive to be repeatedly killed, and don't let outlaws collect bounties themselves. This way, there servers would police themselves from griefers. If you really wanted to live the outlaw life, you still could, but there is an incentive for bounty hunters to get up a posse and hunt you down.

help! (mainly registered to ask this question).
Harlock1796 replied to jasngii's question in Questions & Answers
Are other people's stirrups working? I have the 15% reduction to drain rate ones, but when I go into player and look at my horse, it says they are equipped, but shows 0 drain rate effect. I assumed it was a beta thing, like the improved saddlebags not working either. -
You don't have to accept the mission - you know it's a player assassination before you say yes. Unless I've got a load of skins/carcasses on my horse (in which case I run) I go with Euphoric's approach, hole up and try to fight the assassin off. What's not fun about that? It's nothing like the random guy that shotgun's you in the back of the head in Valentine High Street, it's part of the structured play of the game, and you're given fair warning if you're the target. Just what I think.

I tried to name my horse "Fritz". It turns out I'm a racist.

Ugrading Saddlebags - what does it give you?
Harlock1796 replied to DLKnives's question in Questions & Answers
I've just found this out the hard way, too. I should have guessed - it's the same with my stirrups that should be reducing my core drain but aren't.
