  1. I got one from Sean the other day, in his camp just near Blackwater. I was on my own, and when I checked the map the target's posse of 3 were in Ambarino and heading West, hell for leather. I chased about to McFarlane's ranch, in case they were just looking for a strong position, but those boys weren't slowing down. To be fair, all three of their levels didn't add up to mine, but it's a shame the two non-targets didn't try to speed-bump me.
  2. Top research, chap.
  3. Me too. I did this once about 60 levels ago. I was desperate to hit lvl58 (I think) to unlock cool ponies. It works, but it ain't news.
  4. Online, does it survive logging off?
  5. I feel like daily challenge streaks have become my job. Some days when I genuinely don't have time to play I log in just to do the quickest challenge. There's usually one that you can 'buy' like customising a gun or modifying a horse appearance. Not bags of fun, but I'm considering it an investment.
  6. In total, I actually heard discernible sounds from about 20 people over a 5 hour period, with the majority of those in PvP. All of the breathers and music players were in showdowns (2 hours on top of the 3 in free roam) and some of that time was in large showdown, so in the lobby (I think) you get to hear all 20+ people, certainly in non-team games - when you're split into teams, do you only hear your own team?. In fairness, once you take that out, free roam wasn't too bad an experience, considering that I spent a fair bit of the time in and around Valentine, and there was a reasonable amount of player traffic. Am I right in thinking they've reduced the general chat range? Once I heard someone on chat, I looked on the map to locate then and then approached, so that I could be sure what they were saying, for my research. Had I ridden on through, I think I would have gotten out of chat range pretty quickly. In summary: Most of the chat problem was in showdowns, and (when I wasn't busy restocking ammo or changing loadout) I would have time to mute noisy players individually; There wasn't a huge chat problem in free roam, but neither did anyone say anything that enhanced my experience. If I had a mind to, I might have been able to engage with the two guys talking about the actual game; Other than in the free roam event, there was nothing even approaching nastiness, and that guy was more mildly amusing/tedious than offensive. In conclusion, I didn't encounter anything terrible, but I literally, in 5 hours, heard nothing that enhanced my game experience. Maybe it's the Xbox. Maybe its the time I was playing (roughly 10pm-3am UK time). Seriously, I would love it if there was more constructive chat going on, and maybe I'll give it another go, but on that evidence, I'm not optimistic.
  7. So, In the spirit of scientific research, I have spent about 5 hours playing with no muting anyone, actually logging in a little book what player interaction I got. About 3 hours was freeroam (including one King of the Castle event), and the rest were showdowns - a combination of various lone wolf and team games. I can report my findings as follows: People whose names occasionally appeared as in chat, but largely inaudible: about 6 - 10 - some came and went so quickly I wasn't sure whether they were different people Loud breathers: 4 Loud music: 6 (mainly crappy, but with one Rolling Stones track to mitigate the situation) Whiny Kid arguing with his mum about his chores: 1 Players talking to someone else not in game: 3 Trash talker: 1 (self proclaimed master of King of the Castle (he wasn't)) People actually talking to each other in game: 4 (2 sets of 2) 1 pair just general daily chat, one pair (freeroam) actually talking about what mission/hunting they would do next, and commenting on passers by. People talking tactics in a team PvP match: Zero, out of 6 matches played Now, that is just a snapshot of what I saw last night. I wish it was different, and that there was actually either some wild west interaction or team tactical talk going on, but there wasn't, as far as I saw. Thanks for telling me how to play the game 😜, but I think I'll stick to my original plan.
  8. I find I usually need to mute general chat to avoid: the mouth breathers; the idiots playing their bad music; and the people having a dull conversation with someone else in the background. I do regret that this means that I am probably missing out on people who actually want to interact as part of the game.
  9. It's a lot to do with using the right gun in the right situation. Unfortunately the carbine repeater is pretty crappy, so if you're low level you are at a real disadvantage until you unlock something better. As soon as you unlock a shotgun, buy one. At close range you will one shot anyone with standard ammo. The bolt action is a very effective rifle (even though I don't like it because it isn't cowboy enough for my taste), so getting that will make a big difference. A couple of revolvers for versatile mid range complete a sensible loadout. I don't see a massive difference in performance, so as soon as you can have an offhand holster a second cattleman is fine. Freeroam events can be a bit of a kill frenzy. Until you get more comfortable, find somewhere in cover and take targets of opportunity. And watch the minimap. But yes, headshots are a vital part of the game if you want to kill other players.
  10. I got one the other day, first time in ages. Both Sean and James Langton hand them out, maybe some others, too. I have been high honour for a long time, but went bad for the new story missions, and weirdly have continued a downward slide towards the dark side. Used to be that feeding my horse and skinning a few animals kept me well up the white hat spectrum, but not at the moment. 👿
  11. No, you don't. For some of the missions you do, but not this one. First time I did it I was max honour.
  12. This, and this I have two Lemats. One is all black (blue, in fact) with black wood grip. The other is all "silver" with a pearl grip. However, for now I have left it the steel it came in. I'm not convinced that spending 18 gold to go from a silvery metal to a very slightly more silvery metal is the best use of my resources. If it cost 2 gold bars, I'd probably do it.
  13. There was one. Part of the release notes when it came out. I've never tested it, though, so can't help the OP with his question. Hopefully he'll come back and tell us when he knows the answer.
  14. For me it works sometimes but not others. Seems entirely random. I can't see any pattern e.g. different weapons affecting it.
  15. I got the gold too. I'd already done it 3 times previously, gold came in about 18 hours later.
  16. Weirdly, I haven't seen anyone using SB yet, and I must have played 20 games so far.
  17. Dying is bad for your health. 😱
  18. Yeah, it's never been full auto for me - one trigger pull, one shot.
  19. I had 3 more new ones tonight. I'm not complaining!
  20. Bullets are cheaper
  21. Once I had got to do Bring a Goddamn Posse, everything sorted out for me - the rest were seamless. I thought Destroyed by Grief was excellent. Just need to murder some folks, to get to do the two dishonourable missions now.👿
  22. They don't feel very random, to me. I have come across the same pair of travellers being attacked about 4 times in exactly the same place (south east of Valentine), and until yesterday had not come across any others (saw 3 new ones yesterday). I suspect that if you keep travelling the same roads, and not getting any encounters, that's because there aren't any set for those locations. If you're roaming all over, and still nothing, I'm out of ideas beyond what Kean says above.
  23. To prevent people rigging games. If two or more people can communicate without the other players knowing, it gives you. as a 'team' a massive advantage. If you could do it before, its because R* hadn't thought to disable it.
  24. Same for me. Whether I join land of opportunities or freeroam seems irrelevant. Whichever I do, sometimes the story missions are available and sometimes they're not.. No big deal, they're just a distraction from poker anyway!
  25. Same for me. It is complete chance whether the first mission comes up. The only pattern seems to be that, if I want to do it it's not there, whereas if I don't (because I'm in Tumbleweed and want to play poker) then it will be available.
