What ONE thing do you think will help online the most?
Poggy replied to madfretter's topic in Red Dead Online
I think there's better solutions than separate servers, at least ones to try first. -
That's an interesting idea. You'd also have to prevent other ways of griefing, like horse killing, stealing, pelt thievery etc.

Stranger missions can be interfered with by other PCs, and without their involvement they are trivially easy. Some stranger missions also involve PC assassination. -

How would stranger missions work? -
Pre-emotive shooting just makes the situation worse, turning everyone into paranoid trolls and making it harder to hunt in peace. There are fixes that R* could implement that'll alleviate the issue, and I hope they come quick, but bad people gonna be bad regardless. We shouldn't stoop to their level in the meantime.

Maybe another good reason why it should display character names not usernames.

I agree passive modes are even worse, but that wasn't what I had in mind. I'd still rather not have separate lobbies if it can be helped. There's other options to try first, IMHO. From the simple - more butchers, more content reducing boredom, safe zones, map options, not losing stuff on horse at death, to the more complex, like bounty systems. -
Wouldn't it be nice is if there was a 'delete troll' button, lol,

Yeah, it's a difficult balance. At the moment I favour non--separate lobby solutions, but that may change. -

Just 1 thing! Wow, that's hard ... Do I fix a problem or add new content? Ok, if I could only do 1 thing, it'd have to be new content: add mini games. -
RDR 2 ONLINE - Sleeping in your own camp?
Poggy replied to Zanarkand Wolf's topic in Red Dead Online
Lol . And yet no time passes ... -
Would you accept role-playing as a reason for abusive chat? As a spin-off from another thread this became an interesting idea to me. I wonder what voice, accent and content my character would have? I strongly suspect he'd be quite, quite awful.
-
Both of the above suggestions are very problematic, IMHO. The idea of pre-emptive shooting all pinks just turns the whole game into a grief fest, and will make the problem much worse. Private lobbies have a range of issues, most notably making 'normal' lobbies over populated with trolls. I also notice that Ugly has passed over a number of genuine questions asked of him, is this an oversight or deliberate avoidance? I don't mind if you don't want to engage in this debate anymore, but it seems rude to continue to engage with the thread and topic while just ignoring one contributor.

RDR 2 ONLINE - Sleeping in your own camp?
Poggy replied to Zanarkand Wolf's topic in Red Dead Online
There is no sleep option, the online map runs on a global time cycle so sleep would be impossible online. It is also unnecessary, you just recover by resting in camp. Upgrading your bed grants you quicker recovery time. At your bed you can change wardrobe, that is all. I suspect, and really hope, greater functionality for camps will soon be available - at the moment they are next to useless. -
Camp spawn is a good idea, or maybe other safe zones - like a church or sheriffs office.
-
They can take turns to avoid it, which makes it fairly useless. A posse of 3 can kill you 9 times. A pose of 7 ...
-
People respawn pretty close to where they died, and appear on the map as a red dot. It's easy to find people who've just killed you, or you've just killed. Many griefers like to kill multiple times or in humiliating ways, or do other douchbag stuff. But If it is happening a cross servers/sessions then that is something really weird and worrying. Is there a way to join your game just based of knowing your username? Are your settings such that they allow anyone to join your game or something?
-
I turn these features off because I expect the sound waves to be mostly polluted with trolls screaming abuse and then reeeeeing when shot back. Am I right? What have people's experiences with chat been like?
-
Different issue zinussan.
-
Killing griefers isn't the problem, they are usually awful shots. The problem is that by that time the damage is already done, you've lost whatever was on your horse and been dragged into a pointless time wasting exchange of fire.
-
Didn't you want everyone to be alerted you were on so they could try and kill you, Ugly? Why haven't you taken up my offer to spread the word if you give us your usernames?

I think Keane called this expected response early ...
