  1. I made the mistake of thinking hair pomade was what helped the growth. My beard and goatee was stuck at level 6, I was on chapter 3. I started taking the HAIR TONIC and just started chapter 4 last night, now my beard is 9/10. Drink the "hair tonic" if you want it to grow.
  2. I go to the area north of the lake (I'll try and find the name of the lake) on the west side of the map. Lake Owanjila. Where the legendary buck is supposed to, there are a bunch of wolves there, usually 3-4 if you look at them through your binoculars it will tell you what star they are before shooting at them, it will also say a rifle or poison arrow is the best chance to get a clean kill. I always go for a headshot. What I personally do is use the Springfield rifle with the medium scope, this allows me to look at them through the scope and if they start charging I press down on the d-pad to use the iron sights. Once they get close I use the dead-eye to shoot them in the head (1-shot). Out of 3-4 wolves usually one will be a 3-star. Hope this helps and happy hunting!
  3. You can also take them into deep water and it will bathe them, they come out looking shiny and clean.
  4. Thank you sir.
  5. I agree different people play for different reasons, to each their own. I'm like the OP I've had the game since release, play daily and am on chapter 3, I've done as much trapping, hunting, fishing, every side mission I can, everything. I'm enjoying the HECK outta this game. I even find myself with nothing more to do than the main story missions and I'm not wanting it to end so I all of a sudden find a pond I've not fished yet and think, "COOL another fishing spot". I hear you can't play online until you finish the story mode, not sure how true that is as most other games the online multiplayer is a different section from the story/campaign mode, but if I have to finish the offline part to be able to access the online part....I guess the online part will just have to wait LOL
  6. I was North of Valentine came upon a camp where a random NPC was camping he has all sorts of pelts setup, he is NOT the normal trapper. Most random NPC camping will be threatened and will ask me to leave, this one did not he said I'm welcome to join him. He talked to me a while and my kids started talking at the same time so I didn't hear everything he said but he mentioned a legendary animal that is located north of Saint Denis. I wish there was a way to rewind so I could hear what he was talking about, or hear what I missed. Has anyone else ran into this camper/trapper and can you tell me who/what legendary animal he was talking about? Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!
  7. I don't know the best weapon but I do know if you "call" or whistle at him, he gets "kinda mad"
  8. I don't think so, I'm only on chapter 3, it was in a post office in Van Horn (not sure if that's the correct spelling, West side of the map).
  9. What do y'all suggest for areas for small birds? I found a hunting challenge poster on the wall at a post office, did the first challenge (1 perfect rabbit carcass and 1 perfect squirrel carcass, then you have to mail them). That opened up the 2nd challenge which is 3 small birds, sparrow, oriole, robin. Any tips on finding them, spotting them or decent locations? I see some from time to time but normally when I'm running on my horse I see them flying off in the distance.
  10. I found a good one, it's called the "cutter hat" and it's actually one that saves to my profile as "found/stolen hats" 😎
  11. No worries I'm still enjoying the heck outta this game
  12. The miners hat stays stored in your "found hat" inventory You can save hats to your horse if they fall into the "found or stolen" those will be glowing or flashing when you find them. If you buy them at the general store or with an outfit. There is another option for "crafted" hats. Otherwise they don't show up in your inventory to save. Even if it's "equipped" it doesn't give it a name or show in the inventory. Maybe I'm doing something wrong or missing a simple step but I don't see it.
  13. Is there a way to keep hats you find? I understand there are certain hats that go into "stolen, crafted, found, etc..." but there are others that I find that I like. Once I change outfits or start the game back up after not playing the cool hat will be gone. For example I took this hat off the hermit dude that has the rare shotgun. I really like the hat it looks worn and cool. Once I saved my game, shut off my machine and came back later, it's gone 😞
  14. good luck sir, those cougars are tough and the panther, well I got my ONE, but he killed me a lot before I got my ONE.
  15. So I'm out looking for my 2nd perfect cougar pelt and found a map online that suggests there might be another cougar area on the northwest side of blackwater. I'm still in chapter 3 and it says "wanted dead or alive" I figured I'll just sneak in there, well I had my temp horse with me as well (I usually run 2 horses when trapping). I go in just south of the lake with the beavers, turn a corner and BOOM about 12 bounty hunters just appear out of nowhere. I tried to make a run for but they shot me, FAST. I died, it respawned me in Strawberry and it had a $10 bounty on my head, in Strawberry. I'm not sure for what, I didn't kill anyone or even shoot at the people in blackwater area. Oh well I paid my bounty then had to go back to the border to get in whistle range of my temp horse. A single bounty hunter comes up I shoot him in the face, took his "white lawman hat" and ran back to safety with both my horses. I still don't know what the bounty was for the first time, but I did get a cool white hat out of the deal. Wish you could buy it or it was a "found or stolen" hat. It looks pretty cool. I guess in theory I paid $10 for that hat LOL The only issue is, once I die or change hats/outfits I will loose the hat as I can't save it to my inventory.
  16. I completed the top of the line one Wednesday night and it's been a game changer. Now when I go into buildings, camps, anywhere, where it used to say "you cannot hold anymore of this item" I now pick up EVERYTHING. I go to the general store and keep around 5 things of each for personal use and sell the rest to the general store. It's really nice being able to hold more than 30 cigs, last I checked I think I was at around 68/99.
  17. It seems like a message will pop up in the top left, when it wears off like the cover sent message, when it wears off it will notify you. Basically when I'm a camp I apply it every time it's an option.
  18. I figured something was gone on, I didn't realize it did that. I killed the legendary buck mainly for the trapping/crafting stuff but have noticed that almost all of my recent kills are now 3 stars, I was like WOW I used to get 1 and 2 stars a lot, now all the 2s are 3s I guess.
  19. I find most elk up higher in elevation, northwest and northern parts of the map, usually in the tree-lines. I scope them first or glass them to see their rating, 1,2,3 stars. I use a rifle with express ammo, 1 shot to the head, gives me a 3 star pelt every time. For all the animals/game if you look at them through your binoculars then "study" them then "show info" it will recommend a weapon for the best/cleanest kill.
  20. I wonder if it's game time/chapter related? I'm only on chapter 3, been playing daily since release but been trapping and hunting more than story missions. I put the hair tonic stuff on as often as possible and only shave my chops, my goatee is between 7-8 but doesn't move more. Maybe as I get farther into the game it will get to 10. At around level 6 it did give me a message that it wouldn't grown any longer without applying hair tonic. I do that as frequently as I can.
  21. I've heard if you want to make it harder you can turn off the mini map and just go exploring. I'm sure there are other ways to make it more difficult but that would be a big one for me, turning off the mini map.
  22. Well, I'm not sure on this cave hermit dude, I've gone back several times he never comes down and all the other visits I couldn't lasso or shoot him. When I would aim at him the red dot would turn grey. This time I visited him again and he walked to the edge when I aimed at him it turned red so I shot him. He fell back/farther away. I guess I killed him, no shotgun. Who knows?
  23. So I guess in theory you receive more for the complete animal b/c they are getting more meat. i.e. the deer pelt gives you some meat but the remaining carcass if left on the ground leaves a good amount of meat left on the ground. I wish you could keep the rest of the bear & elk, seems like a huge amount of meat there.
  24. Heck yeah! Just shot a 3 star buck and took it complete to the butcher, paid $11!
