Jamesie
So after re-playing some GTA V again (yes I know I should get started with Undead Nightmare again and also finish up INSIDE) I was thinking about what it would be like if we were able to swim in the next iteration of Red Dead Redemption. I think it would be nice to at least swim across the surface instead of dying as we did in Red Dead Redemption but I'm interested to hear what you all think. MajorPain
I like the idea of being able to cross the surface only. It would open up the maps so much more and I know that although Cowboys aren't known for their swimming prowess, being able to get from A to B over a short distance on the water's surface shouldn't be a big deal. Leather doesn't float that well on the other hand though...

Leather doesn't float that well on the other hand though... That leather bit is critical for me + I bet most Cowboys can't swim (why would they need to). That's why I don't think we should have swimming. But maybe you don't die instantly, if there is an NPC or another player/companion around, maybe they can throw you a rope within a specified time frame and that would save you. Glopez
They had it in GTA. I think that being able to swim across certain areas is fine. Obviously swimming under water makes little to no sense UNLESS they plan on having us swim to the bottoms of lakes looking for treasure. lol
Benjo
They'll be using the same engine as GTA 5 so that's enough reason to be pretty certain that there will be swimming. To say that it will just be surface swimming would be nonsensical - they would have to alter the engine to suit that. Plus what happens when you jump off something, do you just land on top of the water? Na there will be swimming just like GTA 5, you bet.

I really do hope there is some decent swimming and while I do like the idea of some underwater exploration I'm quite happy to just know that we won't die when entering the water. On the one hand I can understand why they prevented this in earlier versions of GTA (to prevent us accessing certain islands too soon) so let's hope that this is true. Now if they do plan on blocking off certain portions of the map then to be honest I'd actually prefer that they let us start off without knowing how to swim (shouldn't instantly kill us if we enter/fall into water but forces us to the closest shore) and then maybe have a small mission that then teaches us to swim. I hadn't thought about the GTA 5 engine and everything you can/could with that game. That plus jumping off something and landing on the top would be pretty stupid. It will be interesting to see how Rockstar implement this nonetheless
CowBoii
No need to have swimming. The west had little to do with water other than fishing. If there is a lake or such around, it make more sense to not allow swimming to control the area without making the player feel trapped in a box. Also looks better then running into invisible walls. No need!? But why!??? Yeah people didn't do much with water UNLESS they were part of trades. You had to use rivers a lot of times to transport goods faster and more efficiently. You are giving them too much credit here.
