Too much activity, when hunting legendary buck

I’ve been trying to hunt the legendary buck, north west of strawberry and every time I enter the area of the animal, instead of allowing me to track it it says there is too much activity to track the animal. I figured it meant there were too many other animals around to pick up a clear trace. I killed every living thing in sight and still got the same message. There was also a gang hideout so I killed the guys there and then left the area and returned, the camp was gone but still the same message. I have no idea how to get around it. Has anyone else had this problem? And gotten around it?

Find somewhere to camp and sleep it off and return to that area that should work

This didn’t work for me I tried to complete more story missions but it still won’t let me hunt it , I’m getting very mad now

Nope, haven't tried it to hunt the buck yet. Maybe it's a bug?

I am still having the same problem. I was only able to track the Whitetail the first time I entered the area but I got distracted by a herd of Mustangs. Only gang hideout I have found nearby (?) is the one beside Little Creek River and they have been clear for irl hours now after I killed a bunch of boars for camp. I left the area for most of the day today and just recently started trying the camping and waiting game but it isnt working. Unless I am not waiting long enough. Any suggestions?

I'm thinking some of these side missions, especially with the legend animals may require you to have completed other missions. When in doubt, like Reflucks mentioned, just complete something else or a few other things and come back to it.

Then do the mission for Hosea where you rob a carraige, this unlocks the fence where you trade in valuables and craft trinkets.

Thanks for the tip.  I was wondering what to do with the collection of antique pocket watches and wedding rings I was carrying around.  I want the cash.  Like Arthur is so fond of saying: we ain't a damn charity!

I figured it out. Clear the gang and clear all predatory animal sounds. For me it was a black bear. I noticed this because I kept hearing bear roars. Also as soon as I killed the bear a bunch of herbivores showed up in the area. I imagine its like this for other legendary animals that are hervibores as well.

I had this problem. I did the bounty in Strawberry at the jail and it worked. Let me know if this helps.

Yep you fixed it for me. I had the active bounty from strawberry still going so what I had to do was capture the guy return him to strawberry go back to the area camp out till the next morning and then I was able to track and kill the buck
