Yet another Horse Horror story.  Same thing as the others.

My Ultimate Edition Dappled was somehow killed while I was chasing some dude on foot across the top of a train.  Message pops up: "Your Horse Has Died!"  No temporary icon anywhere on the map.  Horse not in any stable.  Horse not available for purchase.

Now, I'm willing to admit that this may be a 'user comprehension problem', but if so, I'm totally flummoxed as to how to get my primary horse back.  Makes me wonder if I spent $40 for the privilege of riding a 'special' horse for a few hours.  It's really a shame that something like this tarnishes the impact of what IMHO is a game that will be the template for games for the next 5 years.  Coupled with the apparent fiasco of the Game Companion being available only for Android and iOS (and not working on a great number of those devices), that's two strikes.

Please, Rock*, fix this quickly and restore my faith!

You need a second horse called MoonPie

I was going to suggest a female named "Toaster" to complement "Pop-Tart", but I think MoonPie is better...

Yet another reason to FREQUENTLY do manual saves...

As if I didn't need another perfectly valid reason to hate Micah.  Thanks for reminding me how much I HATE Micah.

Definitely a bug. I know how the horse mechanics work. My thoroughbred was the preorder version, was stabled and I have the camp stable feature unlocked. I logged in somewhere in chapter three, whistled for my horse (white Arabian) and both my Arabian and some new horse bearing the same name as my thoroughbred showed up!! The new horse has absolute garbage stats (3/3) and doesn’t even come close to looking the same. The thoroughbred was stabled in Valentine, had not died and was not in a mission that caused me to use another horse. The game just....stole it. Thanx Rockstar. Way to take my $80 and leave me with yet one more item gone (this is NOT the first time the game has taken my things). About damn sick of it.

I have the ultimate edition. Bought the thoroughbred in Valentine and stabled the Shire. I assume the starter Tennessee walker was also stabled but didn't check. Began using the thoroughbred. I've never had a horse die that I know of. Riding along I hear some drunk guy singing at a camp. He had his horse there. I sat with him and listened to him ramble on. I get up and get on a horse and ride away. I jump off my horse to chase some deer around then whistle for my horse. A Tennessee walker comes up to me....wtf... I ride back to his camp andy horse isn't there. Did I ride his horse by accident? I have no clue. Ok, back to Valentine (the only stable I have used this far). My horse must be there. Nope. In the stable is the starter horse, the Shire, and then another Tennessee walker (my active horse). If I got on the wrong horse, why is this new Tennessee walker wearing the special edition saddle that I bought at the stable and put on the thoroughbred? I never once took the saddle off of the thoroughbred.

I paid to use this horse and expected that I would have it throughout the game.

Also, I had only ever used autosaves up to this point so loading an old save to work around this is not an option.

I don't know if getting a refund is possible at this point but this would have absolutely been a deal breaker for me had I known that I could lose the horse.

Ok so I had a war horse but today when I got back one to play it was an intirely different with the same name as my war horse. Has anyone had that happen to them?

Must be a bug, did you save the game before quitting?

I did and it is still not the war horse but as I am reading it looks like lots of people are having this problem.

Out of all the times I played, I never had this issue surprisingly. The one problem I once had was when I went to call my horse, it was a completely different horse/breed. The horse I had before might have died or got lost somehow.

Oh ok gotcha yah this is the first time I’ve had a real glitch or anything of this sort hopefully it will work itself out.

Lost Horse Update:.....

My Dappled Thoroughbred from the Ultimate edition of RDR2 was somehow killed while I was on top of the train chasing Billy Midnight.  I had left my horse at the train station and proceeded with the mission when, suddenly, a message popped up, "Your horse has been killed."  After a, "Oh gosh!  I wish that hadn't happened.", moment, I completed Billy Midnight only to find that my horse was nowhere to be found.  No temporary marker, nothing in the stables that I checked...nada.  I purchased another horse (don't recall which stable) and proceeded, all the while casting aspersions on Rockstar's cumulative parentage.

Having parted with (yet) more cash for a copy of the Official Guide, a close reading of the last sentence on "Horse Death" (p. 141) reveals: "Note that horses exclusive to the preorder, Special and Ultimate editions are unique in that they respawn at the Valentine stable when they die."  Upon return to the Valentine stable, I clicked, "Buy Horses", scrolled to the bottom of the list and, "Voila!", there she was.  Unbonded and with no name, of course, but I can live with that.  The key point is that reincarnation apparently occurs only at the Valentine stable.

Don't know if it was there before, but my recollection is that I had checked "Buy Horses" in Valentine previously with no results.

So, the jury's still out.  Game glitch?  Possible.  User malfunction?  More highly possible.  We'll wait and see what happens if she dies again.

Different problem:  If I take a stagecoach or train, my horse doesn't follow.  Any idea what I'm doing wrong?  THANKS!

BTW: Tried to solve the problem by stabling the horse in St. Denis and taking the train to Annesburg, only to find that there's no damned stable in Annesburg!

Game glitch I say.

Last night I made camp up north of the lake near strawberry, hunting cougar.  I set up the tent had the war horse from the Dlc hitched to a tree, paused the game and shut off the Xbox. Today after work I start playing. I'm in the camp, where I left off last night. War horse is hitched to the tree. I sleep till night to hunt cougar and some smartass swapped my war horse for the standard horse I bought in the saddle mission while I was sleeping.

Saddle and tack I purchased are also gone, no owned marks in the store.

Hello all. New here, but also had the disappearing horse glitch happen. Had a thoroughbred named Bucky. Turned the game off one night, started it up the next day, and my thoroughbred was replaced by the starting horse, but with the Bucky name, so I knew something was wrong. Also, the DLC saddle was gone as well. I think the glitch basically erases the DLC from the game.

I didn't read the whole thread, but I did find a solution!

Exit the game, go to your game management, select RDR2, uninstall the Ultimate Edition DLC, and then reinstall it. Be sure to uninstall JUST the DLC and not the whole game. When I restarted the game, I had my thoroughbred back. Granted I lost the levels I had on my horse before he disappeared, but I did get my real Bucky back. I haven't had him disappear since then (knock on wood).

Hopefully this helps, at least until Rockstar figures out how to patch this.

Anyone else lose a main horse from camp whilst out using a new one? I tamed the wild palomino from the photography mission a while ago and my other horse (the brown and white one - you get him second in the game I think?) remained in camp for ages so I kept up with bonding etc then all of a sudden he’s vanished and is not in the stables! :(

I ended up finding my horse in one of the stables like 10 days (in game time) later when I tried getting a new one. I went to save it, and there he was. Looking at me with the same brain-dead eyes I remember. I don't know what happened cause I am almost certain there was no update.

I recommend saving the game before trying, but the following worked for me:
1. If you've lost one of the DLC horses you'll have to "lose" the other one too, I tried step 9 before I did that and it didn't work.
2. To "lose" the other DLC horse I rode with it out of the stables and then found me some wild horses, broke one and made it my primary horse by resaddling it. This should make the DLC horse your temporary horse.
3. Break another wild horse and bond with it until it's your temporary horse, that should make the DLC horse go to to theater or something - away from your stables, at least.
4. Save the game. Autosave will do, but to be on the safe side I recommend hard-saving and using a different slot than you're used to.
5. Close the game (the PS4 should do so for you anyway in step 7).
6. On your PS4 menu go to "Settings".
7. Go to "Account Management".
8. Select "Restore Licences".
9. Load your save and go to the Valentine stable, you should be able to stable them like you did when you first got them.
10. (OPTIONAL) Yell at R* for making us jump through hoops to get our stuff back. YES, I messed up by losing it first (my fault, though the game could have warned me) but it's digital - it should not be such a big deal to replace it in-game.

In my desperation I tried this, and it worked for me at least. Hope this helps.
PS: Yeah, I know you can probably just kill the DLC horse in steps 2-3, but I figured I'd just do again what made me lose the other one in the first place...
