Trying to do the "Duchesses and other animals" stranger thread and im having way too much trouble finding and hunting the 3 different types of egrets.

I know their supposed locations, i drop plenty of predator bait, but they seem so rare. Herons everywere, no egrets.

Any tips? Time of day?

Daytime, around noon, sunny weather, southeastern islands (see the map MorganKane posted above). As soon as you drop and skin a few of them, do a manual save and EXIT the game and then reload and do it all over again until you have what you want. If there aren't any egrets there, save and exit anyway and see if they spawn. When you get to the spoonbills there's a really good guide for farming them on Youtube but I'm too lazy to look it up. It's the same method but with a great spawn point. Seriously, f*ck that tedious mission.

I HATED IT! I know they wanted to make the game more challenging but this was just ridiculous. There are a handful of ones I absolutely loathe. As much as I couldn't stand this one, the gambling ones are 10 times worse.

Birds aren't attracted to bait.  You're just wasting it.

Challenges aren't meant to do all at once.   Gambling ones aren't that hard.

Yeah, I just collected them as I went. One or two at a time whenever I saw them on my way into St Denis.

Blackjack was about 3 hours the first time and 2 the second. Finally got the third one when I drew 17, hit for a 2, followed by ace and ace.

I played for 30 minutes, realized how shitty the odds of that happening are, gave up and did something else...

Got my hunter challenges done though! I was very pleased to shoot that panther in the face!

Just got to this one ;)   I should have said so far ain't that hard.

Yeah I didn't have any trouble with the other gambler challenges. This one just makes no sense...

The ****ing tomahawk throw is stupid too. How the **** am I supposed to know I'm 80 yards away? I (somehow) managed to get 78 yards, but I don't recall killing anything with that throw...

I found a trick when i did this the first time.  restored my game a while back to get my horse back and i'm on this same challenge now.

Spoiler

Has to be an enemy, I think that's the part why i can't get it to complete this time, i've been trying it on random people, like the butcher in Valentine, hasn't worked yet.

Here's what i did the first time, and what i'll go back to do tonight.

Go over to the oil refinery, at the north gate there's a guard that just stands there. Target him and walk backwards until the target dot turns white.  He'll get pissed and become an enemy while doing this, then step forward to make it red again.  Turn on Dead eye and mark him, then walk backwards until Dead Eye runs out and you throw the hatchet.

Make sure the Dead Eye ring and core are completely full and maxed at level 8.

You'll know if he's an enemy, it won't register distance on people who aren't enemies.

I had a feeling something like that would work. I played around with it for a few minutes before I gave up, but I was trying with random people riding past me on the road... Didn't help that they were moving. I'll give this a shot later, seems pretty straightforward.

The best place I found for the tomahawk one was Hanging Dog Ranch.

If you stay outside the fence and circle around to the north side there’s a line guard stood outside a door.

Crouch down and approach him while aiming the tomahawk. Once the dot turns red slowly back up until the dot turns white again. Take one step forward equip Dead Eye and hold down the throw button until it is fully charged.

Shiuld fly right off and kill him first time and it will be over 80 yards.
